The Official True Detective Scene

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I don't get the love for Farrell. I love him as an actor, but wtf accent was he speaking with exactly

Sigh.

Kept on waiting for the Season 2 to finally gain some momentum and direction but that never happened. I was one of those who felt people were harsh on and had too much expectations from Season 2 because of how kickass Season 1 was. But, even if we don't consider Season 1, Season 2 was quite underwhelming and extremely average. Disappointed.

Yeah, I think everyone knew that Valcoro would die if he visited his son. It really should've been a happy ending with his son, even if he does die. Seeing that his son carries his badge around was a good way to end it. But they had to add that stupid bit about him uploading a message to the cloud (he didn't need more closure), and then the paternity test confirming him as the father. Even with him dieing, he still had a positive end to his arc, but had the ruin it.

Also, WTF is Frank thinking? He let's guys rob him of 1mil, is all prepared to walk back, then gets stabbed over a jacket? WTF. Another stupid ending.

It's funny, I thought the entire finale was actually GREAT, outstanding, had you on the edge of your feet, of course, until the end.... The ending didn't pay off at all, and left you very disappointed, much like the entire season.

As for Frank.

I think the point of that scene was telling us Frank will never change. He's a gangster, to the end. Regardless of the money, it's never really been about the money for him. As Jordan pointed out, they had well enough money to get out long before. 200,000 dollars is plenty of money to start over with.

It's about the power. It's always been that for Frank. When he got fucked by the Russians, he couldn't walk way.

Frank was powerless, completely, at the mercy of the gangsters out in the desert, once again. Just Frank staying true to his character. He bargains first, and when that doesn't work, he's not going to beg, he's going to bite back.

Hell, I think they were probably going to leave him there to die regardless. They were going to leave him there. (why wouldn't they? he's no longer any use to them.)

They didn't drive him out to the desert just to talk. So Frank pays them a million dollars, which is laughable, because they were going to take him for what he had anyways.

The jacket was them wanting to strip away any remaining dignity he had left.

Also, the diamonds were in the jacket too by the way. So hypothetically speaking, he could have gave them the jacket, risked the odd chance they'd give him a ride back (which I don't think they were going to regardless, remember they were worth 3 million, more than the cash he gave them), or refuse to give them the jacket, and just die. He chose to die.

He was probably going to die either way.
