The "What are you playing now?" Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
If you play an easier difficulty where you can get through combat quickly, it's probably something like 20 hours. Lots of replayability for sure though.

Lot of lore to read too if you're interested in it, and I find this world pretty interesting so I've done a fair amount of exploring all dialogue options with my party members.

Haha just read something hilarious about Tyranny. I don't consider what follows spoilers, as it's basically the foundation for the first act of the game, not an actual plot twist or anything. However, if anyone wants to go in knowing absolutely nothing, I put it in spoilers for you.

At the beginning of the game, you are charged with delivering an Edict from Kyros, the overlord trying to conquer the world that you happen to work for. His Edicts are extremely powerful magic that can have an impact over thousands of people. Kyros, fed up with how long it is taking to capture a specific area during the war campaign, drafts an Edict that gives his troops in the aforementioned war area until a certain day of the year to take control. If they don't do so, everyone in the area will die (on both sides of the war).

Now, you don't have to read the Edict immediately, apparently, although there's not really a ton to do if you don't. However, if you travel back and forth between areas, you can advance the time. If you advance it enough so that you pass the day in question before issuing the Edict, then you read the Edict, you get a year to work with instead of eight days.

Planet Coaster is legit. I've never seen a theme park sim with this much customization before.

Finished Tyranny. Great game, although I thought the ending was a bit abrupt and anti-climactic. It kind of feels like this was the first act of a much bigger game, which will likely be the case if the game does well and gets a sequel.

So here is basically what I did in Tyranny:

  • Sided with Graven Ashe because he seemed like a good general, whereas Nerat just seemed crazy and ineffective.
  • Convinced Bleden Mark to meet me in a clearing and then killed his ass. Was kind of bummed about that one but I didn't really see any option in my playthrough to get him on my side, so he had to die.
  • Put a blight on Azure and then killed Nerat with help from the Disfavored.
  • Got Ashe to bend the knee and accept me as the ruler of the Tiers.
  • Was found innocent at my trial by Tunon, who then decided that I was his new god and swapped to my side.
Tunon siding with me was really the only thing that I thought didn't make a lot of sense. I had a decent amount of favor with him, to be sure, and a decent amount of wrath as well. However, I had such limited interactions with him that his damn near instant decision to start working for me just felt out of nowhere. I must have talked a hell of a game at my trial. Ashe made perfect sense. It was pretty obvious he was getting senile and I had the respect of his entire army. I was kind of surprised he didn't make me fight him first, but it made sense either way.

I also felt like there weren't really enough companions. Yeah, the game isn't all that long, but there's just not a lot of variety there. I mostly just stuck with Barik (tank/DPS), Verse (archer), Lantry (ranged/healer), and myself (tank) and that seemed to be a pretty effective line-up. I also used the spell creation system to give everyone a health spell, which made life a hell of a lot easier in some of the tougher fights. I brought Siren with me for parts of the game, but generally speaking I stuck with the roster above.

I am probably going to replay the game to see what it's like siding with Nerat, and I read that you can take your missions from Bleden Mark as well, which I assume means you piss off both Ashe and Nerat to the point where neither wants to work with you. That one interests me, especially if there's a sequel where you can carry over your save. Having Bleden Mark on your side, and potentially as a party member, seems pretty damn useful.

Anyway, the ending wasn't great and the game is a bit on the short side. It took me around twenty-five hours, and I am pretty sure I found damn near everything I could in my particular playthrough. The game does a good job world-building, and the characters are mostly a lot of fun. The gameplay is typical dice roll style RPG gameplay, and the AI seems to be solid at directing traffic in the easier fights so you don't have to micromanage. Definitely worth a buy, though, if you're into this style of game and want a unique spin on the typical "chosen hero" formula.

Yeah, the game kind of takes that same path, but it was refreshing that a lot of the choices are just picking the best of a bunch of bad things, and sometimes you really have no choice at all but to do something terrible.

Might be time to dust off Pillars and play through it. This game starts much better and more interesting, but I did like what I played of Pillars.

Yeah, I think beating Tyranny will inspire me to go back to Pillars. Liking Tyranny a lot so far although it's very early for me. When I made my guy I couldn't decide what to make him, so I specialized in like dual wield and ranged or some shit. Kind of think I fucked up on that front but I don't know. Still fun.

FF15... I been following that since it was FFV13, This is the only FF game since 9 that got me excited. So I will be playing that in the future as of now, I got me Dragon Quest Builders on PS4 and DQ7 on the 3DS. I want one last great Final Fantasy to give me the game I found as real RPG.

Is it worth it to get this game even if I haven't played previous FF games?

I enjoy RPG's, and i am getting an Xbox One S this week, and its one of the few HDR games available.

Yeah

I would say it is but it is a change for Turn Based to action RPG battle style is the only thing you might miss if you like old school RPGs. However the game is not connected to other stories as it is its own version and most FF games are. However yeah it would make for a great start to get to know the series and it should be a great game.

New episode of Telltale's Batman is out. Looking forward to getting into that today.

FF games share similar themes and mythos, but the stories are self-contained and occur in different timelines. The only exception is when there is a direct sequel (such as the sequel to X or the two sequels to XIII).

I haven't played the demo, but most FF games (the exception being Type-0) are a combination of turn-based and real-time combat.

The stories can sometimes be a bit tough to follow, but overall they're solid games. There's a reason this franchise has been around for three decades.

The decision is ultimately yours to make. I'm planning on getting it when it drops next week, although I'll be getting it on PS4 instead of XB1.

Downloading Battlefield 1 since Xbox marketplace had a really good deal. Then I see they did a bundle with that and Titanfall 2, both deluxe editions, for $75. Should I see if Microsoft will throw me a bone?!

I never played the first Titanfall. I heard good things about the new one. Help.

They probably would.

No offense but I can not get into those games, The one I liked was Wolf Among Us. Out of sheer wonder why do you find these games appealing? I like them but it is hard for me to go back to them. The reason is I kind of want to try the Batman ones eventually and maybe I can find a concrete reason to do so.
