The "What are you playing now?" Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
AHh okay, I thought you meant it was too long. I don't remember it being any shorter than the rest of the series. In my opinion its worth playing. Its the only metal gear to run at 60 frames per second on console.

I still remember buying Zone of Enders just to play the MGS2 demo. I must have played through that fucking thing forty times. It blew my tiny teenage mind.

Then finding out later that the demo was the only part of the whole game where you play as Snake. :chuckle:

The Raiden swap didn't bother me as much as most people.

I just found him to be a bit annoying as a character. He spends most of the game bitching about basically everything.
Yeah, he had good reason to though. I loved the fission mailed sequence.

I think 3 is 2.5 times as long, don't even remember 4, and 5 is long as fuck

According to a site that tracks these things, here are the average completion times for each game:

MGS1 - 11-12 hours
MGS2 - 13 hours
MGS3 - 16 hours
MGS4 - 18-19 hours
MGS5 - 45+ hours

Note that these times are meant to be for the main story only (for the fifth game I assume the time is based on doing each mission once), so they don't account for extra content. Interestingly, MGS2 and MGS3 both are listed at 22-23 hours for a completionist playthrough.

If you want to look at any of the stats yourself, just google "how long to beat X" with X being whatever game you want and it should be the first google result.

I decided to do a chronological playthrough of the Metal Gear series, with some exceptions. Won't be playing Metal Gear or Metal Gear 2 as they're just too damn old. Metal Gear Solid I can't play either, though I would if it was on XB1, 360, or PS3. And won't play Revengeance because it looks like ass. The games I don't play I'll just read/watch the story.

(Sidenote: They should really do a remaster of the Metal Gear series. Would be awesome to make some of the older games actually playable in 2019).

Anyway. I beat MGS3 and Peace Walker and am back on Phantom Pain now (played a few missions like a year ago without having ever played a MGS game). I understand why this game is so polarizing. The gameplay is great, but it's a completely different style of game. And it takes fucking forever to just do one mission. Between the motherbase, the helicopter, etc it feels like a godddamn chore at times. It's just annoying that it often takes an hour to go through a mission. I mean I could just run in guns blazing everytime to make it faster, but I don't really want to play the game that way. I also don't want to spend an hour on every mission...

I did get the Ground Zeroes unlocks, so I'm playing as Solid Snake from Metal Gear Solid, which is pretty cool.

Picking up the Resident Evil 2 Remaster tonight, so that will put my MG playthrough on pause.

Peacewalker was actually fairly good, considering it's a PSP game. Was like a mix between MGS3 and MGS5. It had the motherbase and all that, but the missions were much more traditional. It was actually a nice mix of the two. But, there were some dumb things like the stupid hit markers, shitty interactive cartoon cutscenes, and the boss fights were lame (shooting bazookas at big machines).

But the missions themselves were fun and keeping up with the motherbase was actually kinda cool too.

Also, the game "ends" after the 4th chapter, but it isn't the true ending. You have to grind a bit to unlock the final mission to complete the hidden 5th chapter. That wasn't very cool.

Overall I'd give it like a 7/10. Could have easily been great. Honestly, MGS 5 should have adopted the same format, but cut out the cheesey shit. MGS 5 is just trying to do too much. I'll play through it but it's gonna take awhile. This isn't a game I'll be able to play for more than an hour or two at a time.

Thank you for this information, by the way.

I don't use PB, but I found the game on Reddit

This thing is legit. Graphics look very good. Was able to get my controller working on it too.

Will definitely play this when the time comes.

Honestky it's easily my favorite. It's actually the real snake, the story wasn't convoluted, the romantic interest was actuslly well developed. You fight one damn metal gear and that's the boss of the thing. I think it's just a tight, crisp game.

Got my PS4.

Have to say, I really miss the days when you could just put a game in a console and play it. This thing is basically just a brick for the first two to three hours, as even games on disk these days require a fucking hour-long copy time. What the fuck is the point of even buying a game on disk when you have to install the whole goddamn thing onto your console's hard drive anyway?

So you can sell it back when you're done with it.

About the only reason. Either that, or there is a sale somewhere for the disk.
