The "What are you playing now?" Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Regarding Rust, here's a screenshot from a few days ago of the fortress a few of my friends and I have been working on:

8A11F1BA470DCB3CB313F72D8E29818344085FAD

It's surrounded by spike walls that do damage to enemies that get too close, with only one gate in and out that is password protected (you can lock doors and gates with four digit codes). The main base is five stories, while the tower is probably close to thirty stories by itself at this point.

It's a pretty fun game and I'd definitely recommend giving it a look.

Rust looks pretty cool. Almost like a minecraft Meets day z.

That's basically exactly what it is. We've successfully upgraded our tower into the Eye of Sauron, with a three by three section at the top where we can light a night fire to give our tower a glowing red eye. I'll post some pictures next time I play. It takes a good five-plus minutes to walk from the ground to the top of the tower at this point, and I'm still building upward.

Also, I'm not playing either of these games right now as neither is out, but here are some gameplay vids from both the upcoming South Park RPG and the Thief reboot:

I have to say that South Park: The Stick of Truth looks amazing. I haven't really been a huge South Park fan for quite a few years (love the earlier seasons, though), but the first thirteen minutes are hilarious. It looks like Paper Mario meets South Park, which honestly sounds pretty damn awesome.

I was a fan of the old Thief games, and it basically looks like the reboot is going to play a lot like a mix of the old ones with a little Dishonored thrown in. I'm totally okay with that.

Just thought I'd post this here, but this "hacking group" (really just a group that has figured out how to DDOS) DERP that keeps wiping out all these gaming servers ruining my fucking good time can go fuck themselves.

I'm all in on that South Park game when it comes out. I've been monitoring it for the past couple years and I probably have it way too built up in my head. Definitely a day one purchase for me and I typically only buy 3-5 games a year at the most.

re Scuf Controllers: I really wanted one of these for COD but i figured with the new consoles coming out it would be too much $$ to waste for only like a year of use. If I get a ps4 or xb1 I could def see getting one. I imagine it takes a long time for them to come out because they are just factory controllers which have been torn down modified with parts. So you get exactly the same experience as an XB1 controller but have the added benefits of customizable trigger firing buttons, etc.

If you have any interest in old-school Metroidvania side-scrollers, Strider is fun as hell and only $15...

Played the first two to three hours of the new Thief game (got it for 32 dollars on Green Man Gaming!). It's actually kind of funny how things have come full circle. Dishonored took a lot of what made the original Thief games great and added special powers (and optional combat efficiency, although I played all stealth). Now the new Thief game feels like it took a lot from Dishonored.

It's not as good as Dishonored, unfortunately, but I also can't say I don't like it. The main annoyance is that there is no jump button, just a context sensitive button that servers a variety of tasks. I have no idea why they did it this way, and I also can't imagine no one on the development team mentioned that it was a terrible idea. It works most of the time, but that's the problem. You're never really sure when you can jump on an object, and there's not really any consistency as to what you can and can't climb onto. It makes the "open world" segments of the game feel more restrictive and less fun.

Visually the game looks great. The lighting is very well done, and really lends to the stealth. There's a neat visual effect that illuminates the screen a bit every time Garrett steps from the shadows into the light, which means you always know when you're exposing yourself. The context sensitive button also has a feature that lets Garrett slide about ten feet almost instantaneously, and it functions very similar to the Blink ability in Dishonored, albeit not as cool and not quite as useful. It is useful, though, when a guard catches a glimpse of you and you need to slide back into the shadows before his vision bar fills up and an alarm is sounded, or when you want to close the distance between you and a mark so you can pickpocket him.

What the game does do well is tension, which is important in any stealth game. It has a quick save feature (at least on the PC version...I can't speak for the console ones), which is basically required for any game that relies on a lot of trial and error like Thief and Dishonored. Unlike in Dishonored, though, once you're spotted in Thief it can mean a quick death. I haven't really gotten into any combat situations yet (since I always just quick load when I fuck up), but it's no secret that Garrett is not equipped for combat situations. If it's one guard you might be able to get out alive, but more than one generally means you're a dead man if you try to fight. Personally, I find that refreshing in a stealth game. You don't fail if you get spotted (at least after the tutorial mission), but you also can't stay and fight. It adds a tension that Dishonored mostly didn't have, because in that game if I got spotted I could easily decimate an entire squad of guards, especially later in the game. Granted, I still hit the quick load button in that game, but only because I wanted to preserve my full stealth playthrough. :D

I'll post some updated comments once I play the game a bit more. I've heard the story is total garbage, but Dishonored wasn't exactly the pinnacle of great videogame writing either (although it was mostly solid if predictable). As long as the gameplay remains fun and the level design is solid, I can forgive a shitty story.

For those who have purchased Wolf Among Us, does the $24 price tag constitute buying all future episodes that haven't been released yet?

Also, anybody play Banished yet? It is an Indy city builder sort of game. I have it in my cart but I was waiting to see if there would be any steamsales for it.

Yes, that is the price for the entire first season, which I believe will be composed of five episodes.

I haven't played it but one of my friends has been. If I remember I'll ask him about it next time I see him online and let you know what he thinks.

Well, got my original Playstation working, but the controller is not working. No LoD or FFVII for me anytime til I can find one.

So, been playing KoA: Reckoning, pretty fun, like the quests, can spend a lot of time in those instead of sticking to main story line (Yes, 2nd time playing through, 1st since it came out)

Other than that, been hitting up the DLC for Ghosts. The new extinction map is hard (especially if your teammates don't work together). Fun though. Multiplayer still leaves something to be desired.

Can't wait for South Park! It looks great. Was doing some cleaning and found my fallout: new Vegas. I think I'm gonna throw that back in until SP.

Earth Defense Force 2027 (360, PS3) is pretty awesome. Perfect game to play with a friend on an easy night in.

Nice, I've been looking for something to fill the hole that Tell Tale's Walking Dead left.

From the various reviews I've seen, Banished looks really fun. The only thing its lacking, in terms of a city sim game, is any sort of long-term goal.

Anyone play the new Rayman yet? Was wondering if it's worth picking up.

I warn you now Banished is addicting. I had a city of around 800 people and I accepted some nomads... I had a food shortage that crippled me but managed to fix that problem. Once I fixed that I had a tool problem I missed and ran out of tools. This lead to a food shortage again.... My town starved and froze to death :thumbdown I have since started a new city and I am back up to 600 people but that 900 person city is going to be rough
