The worst team in the league

The biggest flaw in PER is that a player with a high USG rate generally has a high PER...players with higher PER's than USG rates are generally very efficient. And like you said Defense is not well represented here.

As for our team...I truly believe Byron Scott is tanking. He has job security and I believe he wants a high pick in the draft next year. There is no other logical explanation for not playing our best players 35 to 40 minutes a night. I don't think anyone is averaging much over 30 min. a night. If we really wanted to try and win our starting lineup would be Mo, Gibson, Parker, JJ and Andy..and the only guys off the bench that would play are Jamison, Sessions and MAYBE Graham. Our defense sucks with the guys we play, we may as well go small with three three point shooters on the floor at all times.

you can't play 4 games in 5 nights with 7 players, two of which are playing injured (mo and andy).

Can we just write a sick note and forfeit the rest of the season and take the losses? I kid but things are getting pretty ugly.

No, we avoid contraction by simply having a larger fanbase than the teams listed above.

You people worried about contraction and the Cavs being one of those teams haven't really provided a single shred of evidence that should make anyone worry.

There is plenty of cause for concern in the demographics of the city of Cleveland alone.

Revisit this discussion around next October or October of 2012.

The season ticket base is going to plummet from around 10,000 this year to what next year and in 2012.

The suites, club seats and floor seat sales are going to what next year and in 2012.

No one can possibly judge the true impact of LBJ's departure until next year when all the current season ticket holders are afforded the chance to make a decision on a renewal knowing the current state of the team.

Based on what we have seen of the team so far this, including the debacle against the Heat, the numbers are going to be brutal.

And considering how difficult it is to build a winner in the NBA, if this team is still awful in 3 or 4 years, contraction becomes a very realistic possibility as there will not be 2,000 people at the Q.

So you're relying on good timing.

The indians had a large fan base once. I went to a game this year fairly early in the season, and decided a day or two before the game to get tickets. We got tickets in the front row right behind the team dugout. Entire sections all over the stadium were completely empty.

If you think we can be as bad or worse than we've been and retain our large fan base, here's a picture from the start of the 2nd half of the recent Celtics game

That was before we had lost 5 straight games by an average of 22 points.

My biggest disappointment is the defense. Byron has completely abandoned the tough defense we were playing. I think there was a residual effect of MB's defensive effort that we saw from some of the guys early on....but that's worn off. They've given up around 115 ppg in the last 5 games. That's a fricking disgrace. If you are short talent, you have to play very tough D. No idea why Byron isn't riding these guys more on the defensive end.

Mo's playing like he's mourning the loss of a family member, Hickson is playing like Drew, everyone else is playing without any passion. Time to get over it. Plan A is for Gilbert to acquire some talent from a team bleeding cash and make a push for the playoffs....that window is quickly closing. Plan B is probably a quick rebuild since next year may be a lockout anyways...his hand may be forced in this direction since the current roster appears to be quitting.
Just my opinion...

Some people would argue that Jawad Williams, is the worst player, on the worst team.

It could be they were simply waiting in line for food and drink at half time? :dunno:

Absolutely, but I get the impression Byron *is* riding these guys on the defensive end ... but he must be asking them to do the wrong things. It's like Silas getting fed up with JMac because he wouldn't fight through screens ... hey! face facts! Mo isn't going to be fighting through screens and staying in front of his man either. We either need another PG, or we need to get back to the <3sec show & recover & rotate P&R defense we made work under Brown.

I'm not sure Mo and JJ can co-exist right now.

We don't need Andy playing frantic trying to force steals and trying to stop the other team by himself, we just need everyone playing their role on D correctly.

Unfortunately, it's much easier said than done and the offensive focus on running most likely hurts our D. IMO, there's a reason we were constantly slowing down our offense, and that's because of the energy it takes to play D according to Mike's system.

Where's the conditioning we worked so hard on during pre-season? Dunno.

Some people would argue that Jawad Williams, is the worst player, on the worst team.

Some people... I would like to meet those who don't fall into that category. Jawad has been a pile of horse dung and it is probably the most pathetic thing about the Cavs that he continues to get significant minutes due to the fact that our SF position is the worst covered position for any team in the league. If there are any old SFs among the ranks of RCF lace it up! You couldn't do any worse than the lot we have. Miami please come back and go after him. Why did we sign him to an offer sheet and not let Miami get him this summer?

Agreed that defense has to be the priority. No one on this team is a consistent 20pts-night player. Scott's gonna have to slow everything down until there are some roster changes.

But even that depends on the team attitude. I think Jamison gets it, but can't bring his body along for the ride. Gibson and Mo and Andy mean well, but mentally they're not there for whatever reason. Everyone else is just in limbo.

I'm generally not in favor of big shake-ups or rash decisions, but we need some new faces here if only for the sake of moving on.

I've had those seats for 3 years, it never looked like that to start a second half before. And like I said, there are banks of empty seats the whole game most nights this year. The reported sellouts every game are some sort of smoke and mirrors.

So this puts the team in the same boat as pretty much every other team that reports sellouts for every game... the truth is no sports team TRULY sells out every seat... the numbers are always getting fudged.

Besides, I don't know why people are discussing contraction. It's always been assumed that contraction is the last thing David Stern wants to see happen because it's admitting failure. Even if the league would be better off dropping back down to 24 teams, it's just not likely to happen.

I mean, really, Charlotte has always had a helluva time filling up their arenas, and they've had two franchises in their history. I know one moved, but the NBA was stubborn enough to try it again... like things would change there in 3-4 years.
