Hate crimes predate hate crime statutes. The FBI has prosecuted numerous individuals for civil rights violations when they had in fact obviously committed murder. And while Zimmerman saying "coon" on the tape could possibly open the door to federal action (in fact, it would almost necessitate it), it isn't necessary for the FBI to launch an investigation or even charge Zimmerman.

But that is neither here nor there. A grand jury will certain indite Zimmerman, no question and he'll stand trial locally.

It's because there is not one piece of credible evidence to back this up.

It's also due to Zimmermans background of helping the black community in any way he can.

Hey, emotions aside, I will come clean and point out my flaws my mistakes. I've stood my ground (no pun intended), and if I'm wrong I'll have to own them. I'm prepared to give those their due if it's found Zimmerman was out of line. I want justice for the person who committed a crime.

Whatever happened between Zimmerman and Martin isn't really relevant unless we believe Zimmerman's life was in danger. And I for one, simply don't believe that for a second. Do you?

I honestly have no idea. If a 6'2" 170 pound person in a hoodie came up on me, knocked me to the ground with one punch that broke my nose, and then started slamming the back of my head into the cement. I honestly might think my life was in danger.
I'm 99% certain that it was Zimmerman screaming like a bitch on the 911 tapes. Those screams sound like someone that absolutely thought his life was in danger.

The key to the whole case will be whether or not Zimmerman was indeed heading back to his car. The fact that Zimmmerman was following Martin is done at that point. Martin isn't entitled to then go after Zimmerman because he took offense to being followed earlier. Martin becomes the aggressor at that point and Zimmerman can probably argue he's standing his ground. If, BIG IF, that's the way it played out.

I am saying the Feds can only prosecute if it is proven its a hate crime. I dont believe you can prove that with the evidence i have seen.

On the flip side, my personal opinion is that its not a hate crime, but I would never use the word definite. That is opinion. Feds only have authority if its proven its a hate crime is a fact.
