I've been reading a lot of Facebook comments from various articles and people who call Zimmerman a murderer are under two false presumptions:

1.) His daddy was judge and that's why he's getting off.

False. His father was a magistrate in Virginia. He does not have any ties to law enforcement or judges in Sanford.

2.) The police force of Sanford are covering this up.

False. In fact, Zimmerman had a huge hand in organizing the black community in the beating of a black homeless man by a Sanford police officers son. The Chief of Police was consequently fired in part due to Zimmerman's efforts.

I haven't been following this at all, but I'm willing to bet the federal government let's this guy walk just to get the sheep in an uproar calling for them to pass more laws to deny us the right to arm ourselves.

Zimmerman I feel has every right to ask someone what they are doing if he doesn't recognize them in his gated community.

According to Trayvon's girlfriend, Zimmerman responded to Trayvon asking why he was following him by saying: "What are you doing here?"

You spent quite a few words rationalizing Zimmerman's actions. But here's the thing: Zimmerman, being an adult armed with a gun and having just called the cops, should have said "I'm part of a neighborhood watch group and I don't think you live here. Could you tell me where you are going?" That he didn't identify himself is a huge issue.

Instead, Zimmerman met an aggressive, defensive question from Trayvon with a vague, aggressive question. And a fight broke out that Zimmerman couldn't win without using a gun.

Let me ask you this...

How come the girl came out a month later with her statement?

If she thought Trayvon was in so much trouble and he was pushed... how come she didn't let authorities know? How come 3 days went by before anybody did anything about it including this g/f?

It doesn't make any goddamn sense.

I think Trayvon doubled back and he was going to act tough for his g/f on the phone.

So you're willing to buy Zimmerman's statement that he was attacked over what Trayvon's girlfriend describes as the two of them yelling at each other before the fight started? One version sounds completely believable and the other hilariously self-serving and implausible. Trayvon's girlfriend even says Trayvon shouted at Zimmerman first. But you'd rather go with the ambush scenario? Okay...

First off, you picked my opinion instead of picking out the questions I was asking you.

As far as I'm concerned she's a bias witness and she would need to pass a stress test (like Zimmerman already has) for me to believe an ounce of her story. I'm not going to say she's lying, but I will say the investigators only interviewed her a couple days ago. Probably because they have already ruled out her account of what happened based on physical evidence. To this day, she has not given police a sworn affidavit. That says everything.

Second, do you realize how close Trayvon was to his father's house?

He could have been to his house and eating skittles in front of the TV before Zimmerman even got off the phone with the police.

And if zimmerman had backed off when they told him they didnt need him to follow him he just might have had those skittles. That is the part I just can't get around, man if he had just done what was suggested we wouldnt be here right now. Even if Zimmerman was right and it was a burgler, no good was going to come out of him following the guy around. The cops were notified let them do their job.

Here's the thing, we can't actually debate his intent at the moment.. As has been said, the trajectory of the bullet will be important. Did he shoot through Martin into the ground, or up into him from the ground? We'll find out surely.

I think the larger point is this: Had Zimmerman not profiled Martin, both would be better off today - with Treyvon Martin actually still being alive. That's the "racism" that many seem to be missing. It isn't that Zimmerman said "coon." To me, that'd be shocking but I never really believed it or deemed it necessary to demonstrate racism. It's the profiling. It's the fact that he saw a young Black man and assumed he was a criminal, and the resulting outcome of that assumption was Martin's death.

That's what's most vitally important. That's why Blacks are picketing in Sanford, and that's why President Obama spoke on the subject. It's also what many Whites are simply not understanding about this case.

It isn't "Zimmerman is a Klansman lock him up," but more accurately "Racism is still prevalent, stop targeting us and our kids, whether you mean to consciously or not!"

I know it's just my perspective, but I would much rather call it "profiling" or "generalizing" than "racism". You could see the very same thing happen to white kid wearing a hoodie with pants below his waist and this would not be anywhere near the the story it is. I would bet there are probably a few that fit that bill that we just never heard about. I just hope there is enough evidence found to truly decide what happened...

Zimmerman wasn't trying to follow him around. According to his father, he was walking to get an address to update police on the whereabouts of the suspicious person who suspiciously ran away so they could follow up. It's that simple. Zimmerman never chased Trayvon down, when he was asked to stop following, he said OK. Remember at this time he had lost sight of Trayvon so he figured he was long gone. The timeline and distances prove this.

Zimmerman had no idea he was going to meet up with Trayvon minutes after he had already ran off.

I'm not going to argue with you, but I just don't buy that he wasn't trying to locate him.

My biggest issue still is that he chose to carry a loaded gun instead of a taser. Even cops who face danger every day use tasers before they use their weapons.

meh I would carry a gun too... as matter of fact i do carry every day.

Suspiciously ran away? Or scared because a strange man in a car was stalking him?
