Tristan Thompson

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
90% of most rebounds in the NBA are empty stats. It's a pretty dumb statistic if taken at face value.

only thing making TT's contributions empty is the play of those around him.

some of you guys seem to constantly keep pushing the goal post back

TT has shown he is a consistent productive play who can regularly minimize the impact of the guy he is matched up against.

this kind of play contributes to a winning product.

TT isn't gonna win you any games on his own. that's not his role nor what the team is expecting him to do.

JR, Hill, Burks, Hood, Zizic, ,Clarkson, are all guys who are more likely to get traded before TT.

before we see one or two plays a game and declare that's how it happens on all plays.

TT has a 48.0% total contested rebound percentage. Amongst centers with 3 or more contested rebounds a game. that's second behind Andre Drummond (48.3%) . Next closest is Andre Davis with 45.6%.

48.0%... that means half of TT's rebounds are contested.

TT doesn't go after boards that can be collected by another teammate. he had to learn to distinguish this as soon as the ball hurts the rims because he shared the court with two other elite rebounders in LeBron James and Love both far more capable of pushing the ball up the court when they grabbed a board.

Yeah but he sucks at everything else, 50% shooting for a guy who doesn’t shoot more then 3ft away from the rim is bad. He can’t seem to go up with his boards, has to put up that hook everytime.

He is not an anchor on defense, has no basketball IQ. Sets shitty screens. Doesn’t know how to roll. Can’t pass. Doesn’t know how to postition himself when a guard is driving for an easy dish ( because he is already positioning himself for a rebound).

He’s been on this team enough years time to move on sick and tired of watching him try and play basketball.

I get that Tristan has been our whipping boy for two years and with good reason. He has been bad since 2017. But can we be fair and acknowledge when he’s playing well? Which he has been for this entire season.

We have about 4 other guys here that are treated with kids gloves meanwhile Tristan has been balling all season and people still crap all over him.

Tristan Thompson frankly has been the most encouraging thing about this awful season.

He could be really impactful for a playoff team and is looking like we can extract a first rounder out of him.

50% from the Restricted area(non ra) for a Center is actually pretty good. Centers with more than 2 shot a game in the paint outside the restricted area typically shoot below 50%

As far as TT's shooting percentage in the RA. he racks up a lot of tip in attempts. he has more tip in attempts than dunk attempts this brings his shooting down in the RA.

I dunno dude I respect your opinion and appreciate how you always look up stats to back up your points, but when it comes to TT I just can’t watch the guy anymore. When he’s locked in and healthy is can help a good team for sure. But I really do believe a lot of his stats are fools gold and I just go with my gut and what I see with my own eyes. I’ve watch every cavs game for I don’t know how many years now and the guy just doesn’t seem much better then when he entered the league. Sure he’s stronger but he hasn’t added anything to his game.

The way we overrate the value of our players is insane. People thought the sixers would trade their number 1 pick for Kyle korver or we could get a 1st round pick for him. Now people think we could get one for Thompson lool.

You must be out of your damn mind if you don’t think Tristan can get a 1st round pick. We’re not talking about a bottom 5 lottery team.... but there’s 29 other teams in this league and there’s no doubt that one of them would give a late 1st for Tristan.

He’s been phenomenal this year and would absolutely be a good add to any team in the playoff hunt.

If he keeps playing like this, GM's will take notice. I think it's more likely next year, but you never know.

You and Torn need to just get a room.:chuckle:

empty stat ? honestly not trying to be a smart ass but aren't rebounds the primary way to regain possession of the ball ?

They are useless in the sense that many rebounds are uncontested, many are conceded to teammates, sometimes you are boxing out so your teammate can grab the board, etc etc.

It's a well-known fact for example that Steven Adams conceded a lot of rebounds to Russ so he could help his triple doubles.

Tristan is 2nd in the league in Offensive rebounds which is not an empty stat.

Tristan is the only player on the team truly balling and deserves zero hate right now. Sure Sexton looks good for a rookie, but Tristan is flat out balling, getting the most out his skill set with high effort.
