Tristan Thompson

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I can't even begin to express how elite those numbers in post up situations are. The way he draws fouls, he could probably shoot 45% in post ups and it would still be rather elite. There's no reason we shouldn't be getting him 3-4 posts a quarter until he proves he isn't elite. It won't be long and he'll be getting double teamed down there.

His length and quickness, along with his ability to use both hands makes him a very tough guard. His foot work has improved so much, they just have to get him the ball. He is only going to get better. I used to say when he was missing a lot of his shots in the post, that they were very close to dropping. People thought I was crazy, but he has really great touch around the basket. It was always there, he just needed to be patient and execute his footwork. I really hope he is paying attention to Bynum's moves in the post.

My only complaint about Tristan so far this year is that sometimes it seems like he's trying to do too much. This is probably the reason for his lower FG%, lower assist rate, and higher turnover rate despite his improvements.

TT is certainly showing a lack of confidence in the jumper. Several times in the last few games he's gotten the ball in the 15' range with plenty of space to get off a good shot. He hesitates, maybe dribbles some, looks for the pass, then rushes up the shot with the defender closer than at the start of his possession. He probably just needs more experience in those situations to be more efficient.

I sure like the improvement in his power moves around the basket, both shooting and rebounding.

Chad Ford is a dumb ass.

I just want to see more of his awkward floater / drop hook (you guys know what im talking about)
that's probably the most consistent moves for TT to score
with his length , i think the only person who can defend that shot is hibbert
most other people cant even do anything abt it:rolleyes:

Weird that Tristan has a PER less then 14 right now. Certainly feels like he's playing like a stud. Small sample size with a few games with bad shooting seems to be skewing his numbers

He doesn't shoot threes, make a high volume of field goals, or net a lot of steals or blocks, which all drop his PER. If he can increase his overall FG%, it'll rise, though it would be nice if rebounds, especially offensive, had more weight.

Bruce Bowen didn't have a high per either. It looks like tristan is getting more stops this year.

He didn't do those things last year either and his PER was over 16.

This year, his shots are down (10 per 36 versus 11+ last year), his rebounding is down slightly. His TO numbers are skewed high due to that game when he had 6 TOs or whatever he had. His assists are also dramatically down to virtually nil. Those are the stats that are hurting his PER.

His TS% is actually up over last year to 52.4%, close to league average for a PF.

His Wins Produced is still above league average at .116 (last year he was .159). By the way, WP does give a bit more weight to offensive rebounds, on the grounds that they correlate to winning more closely than defensive rebounds.

I'll preface by saying I like Thompson, but he seems to be quickly regressing to last years version. I'm not sure if it is confidence or what, but he needs to use the jump shot more.

Indeed. He was facing arguably the toughest player in the NBA at his position...it threw his game off completely.

I know this means nothing, but if the season ended today I'd vote for Kevin Love for MVP.

As long as he keeps making free throws, it will be difficult for me to sour on Tristan.
