Tristan Thompson

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
you can have all the fuckin spacing in the world and teams are still going to front bynum.

Bynum needs to rotate. Thompson needs to swap and Dion or kyrie need to draw the front guy off with dribble pentration across the key.

theres a million ways to get that front guy off bynum. Cavs just need to execute and if they dont it doesnt matter who you have playing the 4. Cavs have the most space they saw all season and you guys nail the guy who was a key part in setting that space up.

Bynum not getting the ball is on the guards

On a night where the ball was moving pretty well, Tristan got a lot of those push shots and made the most of those. All he needs to do with his jumper is what Andy does. If the defense gives you all day, take your time, measure it up, and knock it down. It's not even something you need to rush your thinking on in game. No need to try to do too much.

On another note, disappointing that TT had only 3 defensive rebounds in 33 minutes tonight.

Tristan is the last guy you have to worry about moving around. He's going to do what he does, No matter what. That's the type of player and guy he is

"Shoot the ball!" Bynum right before a 3 second call because Tristan refused to shoot a free throw jumper

Last thing we need is Bynum to blow his top and verbally abuse good guy Tristan :chuckles:

I'm in the start AB camp

AB needs to get Clark's minutes for awhile before we can even talk about that.

When Bennett cant play more than 3 straight minutes without getting dead ass tired, then this MIGHT be a discussion. I dunno how people could have watched tonight, saw how damn tired he was while barely playing, and say "you know what, he needs more minutes." He needs to get in much better shape. D-League.

I wish the DLeague has been around longer than it has. Bennett is definitely needing that help, but because the Dleague is relatively new still, it has that stigma of people just barely hanging on, but instead the Development part of DLeauge gets looked over.

Bennett definitely could benefit, screw how the media portrays it.

Word is they refuse to send him down there, though. He can run his ass off in practices and do whatever type of conditioning. But nothing simulates getting in game shape like the actual games. He's not going to overcome his conditioning woes playing random minutes here and there

He'll start at PF before he goes down to DLeague. (shrugs)

But keep beating that drum.

Tristan was a little off tonight, but a HUGE put-back obviously! I also liked his little turn around jumper(ish) on the baseline early on. After the game I decided to watch the ESPN recap for giggles.
Here's a quote from it:

"Irving, no. Tristan Thompson, yes. It's been very disappointing early on in his tenure in Cleveland, but they're gonna love him for that."

I don't even know why I bother going to that site. Morbid curiosity perhaps.

TT nearly cost us down the stretch by over passing if hes got a foot in the key and there's 3 seconds on the shots clock he needs to shoot.

ESPN has successfully sold the narrative that Tristan Thompson stinks and Jonas V is a future star.

Current season averages...

Tristan - 12 points, 10 rebounds

Jonas - 10 points, 8 rebounds

Tristan has improved every aspect of his game consistently in each of his three seasons. Val seems to be staying the same or maybe even regressing.

Doesn't matter... they believe what they think people want to hear. The actual play on the floor is secondary to that.

Not really since Thompson is shooting a career low 43.7% from the field which is abysmal for a big man who rarely shoots jumpers, and he isn't scoring any more than he did last year. I don't see any reason to hate on Val as he's only part way into his second year with room to grow. Tristan was looking like shit until around halfway through last season when he began to turn the corner.

I also don't see any reason for ESPN to push Valanciunas over Thompson. The Raps are a joke in the media and are just as bad as we are this year.

He's shooting a lower percentage from the field because he is being asked to do more this season. In his first two years, his FG% may have been higher, but that has more to do with his role in the offense than any regression as a scorer. In the first 60 games or so last season, he was basically not allowed to take any shots outside of 5-feet.

In fact, if you watched him his first two seasons and you've watched him so far this season, I can't imagine anyone deducing that his offensive game has regressed. He can actually have offensive sets run through him successfully this year. Consistency with his scoring/shooting has been an issue, but considering the way he looked with the ball in his hands coming into the league and what he can do with it now? I'm pretty sure every one of us would have taken the offensive player he has become in just a couple years if given the choice way back when.

With the way he works, I have no doubt that his FG% will rise the further he refines his offensive game. It has already come a long way.

Meanwhile, the more you see of Valanciunas -- at least from my POV -- the less you like. Toronto's staff was getting killed last year for not playing him more minutes. You've seen why they may have known something their fans and the media didn't, which isn't exactly a surprise. He's still very raw and struggles when he isn't able to bully guys in the paint. There is very little finesse to his game and the league has a tendency to figure those guys out. He has a long way to go.

I'm not "hating" on Val. I'm just pointing out that Thompson has been the better NBA player and there's no reason for ESPN to treat him the way they do, outside of just being lazy at their jobs or -- worse -- not caring.

This tells me Thompson is expanding his game.

He is also working on a post game and it is showing itself on the court.

some seem to look at stats on young players as the finished product but what we are seeing out of Thompson is his game evolving. his responsibilities increasing.

Id much rather see thompson working on these aspects of hsis game than standing under the basket every game shooting 60% every night on cuts and putbacks.

Thats the player he was his rookie year but instead Scott showed him a different path.
