Tristan Thompson

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I still think the development of Tristan has been utterly disappointing. I didn't expect all-star by any means, but he still does shit he'd do in his rookie season. A lot of the times he looks so out of sorts. I love his energy and hustle, but my goodness, he should be having his break out year.

I see a talented player going to waste by us.

The bottom line is that until(if it is even possible) Tristan adds some sort of consistent jump shot, his ceiling will remain somewhat low.

That doesn't make him worthless.

I wish I knew what happened to these attempts especially given this was opening night:

Ah, opening night. Probably the night I felt the best about the Cavs all year. I bet RCF was an optimistic place at that point, unlike the desolate graveyard of hope it is now.

TT looked great against the Nets with an 18-9 that night. But where did that confident 18 footer go? He hit that right in front of Kevin Garnett. And what about the push shot? It seemed like we use to run a set for that early in every game, now it's just an afterthought.

This team should be as fast as any in the league. But again, coaching, and our plays lack of ability to accept any of it. I hear Mike Brown telling them to push the ball constantly, and they don't. So that's on them for not listening, and on Mike for not getting through. Almost everyone on this team would benefit if we played faster. All of our bigs not only can run, they like to run. We've got a bunch of quick guards. But we walk the ball up constantly.

Drives me fucking crazy. For Mike being such a film nazi, one would think he'd be able to drill that point home until they finally "got it". Grandmas in nursing homes can see how much better off we are when we run, how this message isn't glaringly clear...... so disappointing.

Yeah, let's walk the ball up and get into Mike's halfcourt offense! God knows that's running this team at peak efficiency.

And I hear Mike yelling on the sidelines like a horse who is about to be put down. I don't really blame the players for not listening to that shit.

TTs' offensive game has noticeably regressed in recent weeks. The jumper is back to very awkward. It doesn't help that TT seems to panic and tense up when he gets ready to shoot. That's the kind of stuff that had people jumping all over Bennett . I'm tired of hearing AC dream of how wonderful TT will be when he gets the jumper down pat.

Agreed. He doesn't look very comfortable on offense at all right now. Played good defense last night though. I hope he keeps working on that jumper or at least a floater. Would help him quite a bit. Especially from a contract standpoint.

It's almost as if he and Bennett have switched roles offensively in the last few weeks. Whereas Bennett is looking much more comfortable and natural out there, Thompson seems to be the one tensing up and pushing too much. He thinks way too much when he has the ball in his hands. He just has to go out there and execute.

TT with the solid game last night. 16-13 on 50% shooting is nothing to sneeze at, and he knocked down 75% of his free throws.

Most impressive thing was holding Jason Thompson scoreless though. The Kings might have the worst power forwards in the NBA but Tristan and AB really dominated in every aspect of the game.

I think he struggles with his jumper because he's bringing the ball down from his thighs and up through his shooting motion in one fluid motion, making it hard to get feel for how hard he's shooting the ball and causing him to aim his shot long or short. As a result we've seen a lot of clunkers that are long or short, especially short as he tries to "take something off it" due to bringing the ball up from his thigh.

I think this is a great point, and his offensive awareness is just not that good yet. I think that is part of the reason he has no confidence when he has a open jumper. This summer he needs work on being ready to receive a pass, and be in the triple threat right away. Even last night, he does make good cuts to the basket, and seems to find space down low, but so many passes went right off his hands. This is what he needs to clean up if he wants to stay a starting big man on this team. I have always been a fan of TT, but after watching what AB can do, it makes it hard to root for TT as the starter on this team.

Over time it seems like he's leaning forward more instead of going straight up, and the ball's coming more off his palm rather than off his fingers. It's like he's created a hybrid jumper/push shot that's less accurate than his regular push shot and less accurate than his jumper from earlier this year. He needs to learn to use his wrist more to propel the shot, which would give him a higher release and a more efficient movement.

In other words, he needs to learn how to shoot rather than throw the ball at the basket...

Yeah, but look at his form against the Nets, first game of the season:

6Tv4s
6Tv5O

It's not quite perfect, but it's worlds better than what he's doing right now. I'm obviously not the first guy to say this, but why can't he just take a midrange jumper with solid, confident form like that anymore?

Exactly! I see people bringing up other games but he had a terrific game last night and filled a needed role that is not present when AV is out. Plus the kid just switched shooting hands this offseason and has already progressed greatly from last year in most categories. The only thing that drives me nuts about TT is the way he brings the ball down after offensive rebounds and after entry passes in the post. The offensive rebounding is something he needs to correct asap but the entry pass issue is a combination of him but also his teammates not getting him the ball at the right time and height.

Now is he a better fit then the Bennett we saw from last night? No, but that doesn't mean we just throw Bennett into the starting lineup just yet since he has a long way to go to show that he can do that on a nightly basis.

If it all works out and TT goes to the bench I am fine with it since you need someone like TT that can give you a double double on a nightly basis as much as you need a player like Bennett who can stretch the floor and give you more options.

The question is, is there room for TT and AB? We need to improve our defense around the rim. So, where do the minutes come for both TT and AB if we get a better defensive big?

Next year we will see a new Thompson.....I hope. I really think he needs this offseason to work on his new shot/hand switch. First time someone has ever done this, it's not easy
