Tristan Thompson

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
It coincides with his production: he's been awful in March outside a game or two.

It is disconcerting that his best stints seem to correlate when he doesn't have to play with another quality big (his production goes up when AV goes out and again nosedived when Hawes was hot and then AV returned). Second year in a row this has happened and it's not just total numbers, his efficiency improves as well. He's not good enough to be a big you build the rest of your frontcourt around

I'm as concerned as the next guy about the dropoff in TT's play, but the rumor that he's worse when paired with Andy needs to die.

Per 36, with Andy:

13.3 points, 53% true shooting

Per 36, without Andy:

12.3 points, 49% true shooting

This doesn't really address what I'm talking about. You're looking at minutes played with and w/o AV total which includes games when AV is playing but on the bench when Tristan is in. For whatever Tristan hot streak of games seem to occur when AV is hurt and out.

Great game on the boards today for TT, especially against one of the top rebounding teams in the NBA. We're going to need TT to keep this up if Andy is out for an extended time again.

Yeah, kinda surprised this thread got no love today after the game. I'm not really a big fan of TT but he really showed up today. Gave us his usual "contributions" on offense but his defense and rebounding were really great. Also have to realize that he did this against one of the biggest frontcourts in the game.

Gotta give credit when it's due. TT definitely showed up to play today.

IMO Tristan is the most under appreciated Cav on the team, by far. His good moments seem to slip by the collective conscious of a lot fans, while every mistake is magnified beyond belief and elicits a chorus of 'TT sucks!' on the game threads. The incessant bashing was starting to reach grating levels before shoes said something about yesterday. I understand the game threads are free-for-alls filled with instant reactions; you can usually tell how well TT is playing just by the amount of bitching being directed at him.

TT doesnt get his full respect here because he was picked #4, and despite how anybody ended up feeling about him, like 90% of this boards FIRST IMPRESSION was omg whyd we pick him. Even if he made you feel better 10 mins later, theyll always have that FIRST impression.
Also its way easier to pick on TT than any player we have because he was drafted 4 so they can just pull that "He isnt meeting #4 draft pick expectations" crap. Even though at averages of almost 12 and 10 hes outplaying every big in the draft but Drummond. But whatever, those people just ignore stats anyway, unless it helps their cause.

Agree with everything, but Drummond was picked a year later in Dion's class. The only bigs producing like TT from his class are Vala and Faried.

I think people are just starting to realize the consequences of Tristan's shortcomings. For most of last year, and well into this year, I would argue that Tristan was one of the most highly appreciated Cavaliers.

With increased talent on the team, it's clear that TT is being miscast in his current role. Most people see this and say he sucks. I see this and say, let's get him in the right role.

Power forward is a pretty straight forward role. You're not going to get many touches unless you're Karl Malone or Charles Barkley. This... he is not and we treat him like such. I say strap some bottle rockets to his legs. If he hits the squat machines in the off season then lookout. Otherwise, he's a guy that doesn't really take plays off, has a body, and can be a garbage man when he's not getting blocked.

I'm not even stressing about his mid range game, I just want him to go up stronger than what he has been. He knows this more than any of us. I'm sure he'll improve.

I think a thing that sometimes plagues discussion is the idea that all the players we drafted should end up as starters. Some top picks are stars, some are starters, some are bench players, and some find their way out of the league quickly.

Tristan's final version isn't known but not every draft pick will end up a star and not every pick will end up starting. Not every pick will be on this team in the long term.

Is Tristan a starting PF? I have my doubts. Is he a young player with value and upside? Sure is.

Growth takes time and is unpredictable.

Which is what exactly?

The answer to that question depends on whether the jumpshot he was hitting early on in the season was a real part of his future arsenal. If it's going to be inconsistent or just disappear for long stretches altogether...then his role is second big off the bench for 20-25mpg. If he can hit the jumper consistently, then he should be developed as a starter or first big off the bench.

I think he is what he is from an athletic standpoint, and I don't think a whole hell of a lot is going to change. But shooting and confidence can be developed and he's got a long way to go with both.

For me, his Free throw improvement is so great, and shows that he actually has some touch with his right hand. I am pretty confident he will develop a jumper, it is just a matter of when. I'd like to see him focus on a 10-12 footer first a lot like Mcdyess.

It really would open up his game a lot. He has got to stop gathering himself and go up quick. He is capable, he just needs reminding.

Is he a starter? He can definitely handle it. It really depends on his continued development and Bennett's as well. Too hard to predict right now. I think Tristan is on the right track. The fact his whole season wasn't ruined due to the hand change makes it a success in my book.
