Tristan Thompson

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
If no one was willing to offer Greg Monroe a max deal, there's no way in hell anyone is going to give one to Tristan. If he was truly being offered 48 million, he's an idiot for not taking that. I just can't see him being offered more in a league that is flush with power forwards. He's not an elite player and he struggles to create his own shot. He's much more valuable to a team like ours that doesn't need him to score consistently than he would be to the types of teams that will have cap space.

Agree that he should have taken 4 for $48MM. That is really good money and he would get to compete for championships. Not sure what Rich Paul was thinking.

My guess is we sign him to that 4/48 during RFA. I just hope we do it after we've turned Haywood's contract into a rim protecting competent center.

People need to analyze this TT deal (or lack thereof) in the context of the new deal. Player values are shifting. Contrary to what The Bullshit Whisperer is saying Windhorst is reporting that TT was not offered an extension by the cavs. Seems like both parties are content to just play things out.

Thompson, who had been hoping to land a contract extension before the deadline but was not offered one by the Cavs, finished with 16 points and 13 rebounds.

From Dave McMenamin, who has been a great local addition to local coverage, despite his employer.

Tristan Thompson on how he pulled down 12 offensive rebounds vs CHI: "See ball, get ball. That's my motto."

For as much as people here drool over JV and Drummond. Both TT and DW are pretty good players and were decent picks. TT has really proven to be exactly what Grant thought he was. A great teammate, great rebounder, and tirelessly works to improve his game. Bad picks? Derrick Williams, Jan Vesley, Thomas Robinson, Bismack Biyombo... and maybe Harrison Barnes.

I'd still take Drummond over TT right now but I'm able to let Jonas go.

Harrison Barnes may become better than Waiters eventually but if we don't use hindsight Waiters at number 4 is still the right choice

Great to see Tristan pass the ball out after corralling an offensive board in a crowd, there's almost always going to be a open shooter spotting up in those situations. His two assists to LeBron and Love were both kicked out after a contested rebound for a 3, which means 2 of the 3 three pointers the Cavs hit last night can be directly contributed to Tristan's relentless effort.

It was beautiful stuff to watch him destroy good bigs on the boards (Noah, Gasol, Gobson).

On another note, making only one three from our set offense is disturbing. Please gel quickly...

Pay the man! Cant believe the same TT we used to rag on just beat the bulls for us

Well obviously you take Drummond over TT, but they weren't in the same draft.

I don't see much chance of Barnes ever being better than Dion. He's way worse now and has less upside. No idea what (other than injury) could happen to make him the better player.

There could be another reason for him not signing. Maybe he sees himself as a starting 4 in the nba and wants to see how he goes in his new role before committing to 5 years as a undersized bench big. Waiting until the summer gives him the option of having more control of his future

An 80% FT shooting TT makes it a lot closer. But Drummond's defensive presence cannot be ignored.

All I know is last night's effort helped his case for more money, that dude has a motor.

Wonder if Tristian would be willing to sign the qualifying offer with the hopes of bigger payday after the new tv deal kicks in? For the Cavs this would help keep Haywood's contract as a viable asset. I'm not sure if Tristan and Paul (or for that matter the Cavs, where he could be unrestricted free agent next year) would risk it, but the thought just crossed my mind.

The millions of dollars they'd leave on the table next year by signing the QO makes me think he won't do it.
