Tristan Thompson

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Best thing the Cavs did here was let him go to RFA. Not a team in the world that will give him what he wants, other than maybe the Cavs, and they're not gonna bid against themselves up to that amount. This isn't Eric Bledsoe who would be getting flat out paid on the open market.

They are gonna meet somewhere in the middle. Something that's more than he'd get anywhere else, yet not $14 million outrageous. Probably around $11.5 million to start with performance based incentives that might get him closer to what he wants, but not likely to hit so they don't count against the cap.

I'll forgive him for being the only Cav busting his ass tonight, but I'm not a fan of Tristan's Jamal Crawford imitation. 12 shots in 22 minutes? That's not anyone's idea of optimal.

I like him a lot more in his role as an energy big off the bench. The problem we have is every single one of our big's gets annihilated in the post. They kept going to aldridge isolated against Thompson, and he was able to get any shot he wanted. Robin Lopez looked like a dominant center against us. We have already extended Andy, so what happens if we do trade for a center that provides more resistance at the rim? We certainly can't pay Thompson the amount of money he wants to be a fourth big. Then again, Andy is hurt a lot, and Tristan has proven to be an iron man up to this point. We really do need more help down low defensively with the amount of dribble penetration that is aloud, and guys like Robin Lopez turning into a dominant force.

what kills me more and this comes with the "target" comment is how much better players on other teams become against us. This is something in the past four years the current players have not seen. Basically we were the team to "take it easy on" Per night. Kyrie has to learn to more smart and more tough out there. as for Waiters, well... has to do a lot. This is a team every team will come out hard at and In a few months of ups and downs it has to gel and if not... Waiters could be gone as the start of the re-tolling process.

Really not liking how much TT is looking for his own offense. I know he's trying to get a big contract but him not playing within his role could really hurt the team. Putbacks and open looks around the rim should be almost all of the shots he takes. Let's hope he realizes that and adapts, because I'm a big fan of the guy and want him to stick around.

TT was a disaster in the first half against Portland. Every time he touched the ball, he barreled into the lane and threw up a show on the move that had no chance. At times, he looked to be pressing.

That said, there wasn't a lot of offense in the lineup that TT was doing most of that crap with. All of the big 3 and Waiters were on the bench. The entire crew looked lost out there.

Tristan was an animal in the third quarter, though. He kind of redeemed his early struggles with the monster effort he came back with.

Tristan should not be getting the ball in the post to make his own offense. That weird floater hook is awful. Pick and Roll with Thompson so he can slam it or let him get offensive rebounds and put it back after that. Like someone else said, its good Tristan will go RFA. I can't see any team paying more than 10 mil a year for him.

He has gotten stronger which has definitely helped him around the rim this year rebounding and finishing. I really do like the improvement I see. But that doesn't mean he should ever shoot anything more than 6 inches away from the rim.

If he keeps playing like this: Paid. Paid in spades.

This is where character comes in fellas. The 4th pick, out of Canada, the kid with high character. Remember hearing that?

Once a player is paid, do they maintain their passion for the game? Or do they waffle in their guaranteed money? I believe Tristan will keep grinding, it's who he is, it's why we drafted him where we did.

His game and skillset are just so replaceable. It ain't my money, so whatever.

But he's vastly over-rated on this board.
The cavs are in a tough spot because they have already extended Andy, who happens to bring the same thing when discussing the players greatest strength (offensive boards). I have been pleasantly surprised with Tristan's athleticism so far this year, he is getting in the air quicker and going to the rim with authority. Tristan has also been incredibly healthy, which is extremely important. This team needs a center that can defend in the worst way though. I'm going to cringe when we play Washington. I feel it will be tough to pay both Andy and Tristan when both have similar strengths, and neither provides that resistance at the rim we so desperately need.

The good thing about Andy and Tristan is they can be effective in really short doses. Neither needs to establish any kind of rhythm to do what they do best, out hustle everybody. When we do bring in that rim enforcer, it is going to be tough to pay one of these guys big dollars to play very few minutes.
