Tristan Thompson

Do Not Sell My Personal Information

Of course, pretty much what I meant.

Grab 2 guys that will be on the market that can give us the 12 fouls and same hustle/production.

There are like 10 guys in the draft that are actually big (i.e. not 6'8'') that could do what Tristan does. Get one of them and trade for Carl Landry and we're golden.

Tristan Thompson = Reggie Evans except for the fact Reggie was actually grabbing 11 boards per game 1 year. Offering him 52 mill in the first place is pretty ridiculous so he can walk now for all I care.

Honestly, what is less likely, Tristan being offered $13M/yr or him actually turning down $13M/yr? To me it is the latter, so if he didn't turn down $13M/yr, then he must not have been offered it. That's just my belief though.

I honestly find it absurd. Tristan was allegedly offered $13mil/year, which was already established to be above market value and what other teams would offer him...and he TURNED IT DOWN?! It doesn't make any sense. Why would we have any reason to up that already too generous offer?

because lebron still isn't inked here long-term, and he might try playing a game of chicken with the cavs to see who can blink first.

have the cavs ever said no to one of lebron's requests? serious question. because it seems like they're back to being the 'yes men' they were last time he was here. if they haven't stood up to him - and seemingly aren't showing signs of doing so anytime soon - why not try to squeeze as much as he can out of them for his bff's client?

and yes, squeezing as much as he can out of the cavs is obviously bad for the health and sustainability of the team. but if lebron really cared about that, wouldn't he have told tristan to sign that offer in a heartbeat? or, really, suggested the cavs make a market-value offer from the get go?

I don't care if this guy is a secret lover of LeBron's. The Cavs have to be out of their freaking minds, to offer him a contract as ridiculous as that.

And is he holding out for the max? Geez, I would love to just trade him for next to nothing to be honest. He brings very little to the team. He hustles, I appreciate that, but he's really nothing but an 8th man off the bench to me.

There's something you don't see everyday. A Tristan Thompson rejection.

Since we're piling on and talking about rejections, it is only fair to point out that Tristan has doubled his block rate from last year.

Last year he was at .5 bpg per 36
This year he's at 1.1 bpg

If we overpay for him then that might push me over the edge as a Cavs fan. He brings us nothing that we couldn't get for 1/3rd his price. Let his ass walk away. Grab 2 guys that will be on the market that can give us the 12 fouls and same hustle/production.

Totally agree. The last thing this roster can afford are more 'LeBron guys' who aren't worth their contracts and who are keeping better players off the roster.

Either let him walk away or trade him. A lot of people have been hoping we could get rid of Tristan one way or the other. This move today might help us actually accomplish the goal.

LeBron has to decide if he wants to win titles or be a sports agency brand trying to help out 'his guys' tied to the brand. We don't need Tristan on the team at a high price and we don't need a guy like Mark Jackson as the coach.

We've got to get a hold of ourselves and start making good basketball decisions. I think getting rid of Dion was the first step. But we are still a long ways from where we need to get to. Taking care of Klutch Sports clients needs to be way down the list of things that matter for us so we can focus on far more important things.

Flashback...

On 11/4:
He wants $14M a year. You can find a player of his skillset for much less than that. I also think you are jumping the gun by calling him an "elite rebounder". He was 20th in the league in RPG, 33rd in RP48 and tied for 6th in ORPG. The offensive number may be considered "elite", i guess. But let's dig into it a little deeper. First, he doesn't play outside, so he camps out in the paint. Second, we were near the bottom of the league in overall FG%. So he had a lot of opportunities.

Here's the top 20 PT/REB double double guys...and their salaries this year.

Kevin Love - 65 - $15.7M
Andre Drummond - 57 - $2.5M
Demarcus Cousins - 53 - $13.7
Dwight Howard - 47 - $21.4M
Zack Randolph - 47 - $16.5
Joakim Noah - 47 - $13.4
Blake Griffin - 43 - $17.6
Al Jefferson - 42 - $13.5
Deandre Jordan - 42 - $11.4
Lemarcus Aldridge - 40 - $16M
Marcin Gortat - 37 - $10.4M
Anthony Davis - 36 - $5.6M
Nicola Vucevic - 36 - $2.9M
Tristan Thompson - 36 - $5.4M
Greg Monroe - 35 - $5.5M
David Lee - 34 - $15M
Paul Millsap - 30 - $9.5M
Pau Gasol - 30 - $7.1M
Tim Duncan - 30 - $10.3M
Serge Ibaka - 29 - $12.2M

Almost every player on that list has more dimensions to their game than Tristan. He just has a lot of limitations. He's a very good rebounder, but he's not a shot blocker and his defenders clog the lane because he has no range. This also makes life a little more difficult for our slashers.

We already have 3 very large contracts. If i'm adding a 4th it's going to be for a Center. Not for a guy who realistically is a 3rd or 4th big on most elite teams. I'm glad the Cavs balked. Let's see how this plays out. Will he still be in the top offensive rebounders now that(I assume) we will have a higher FG% and better finishers? Will he still be top 20 in double doubles? I also want to see how his +/- works out. He reminds me a little bit of Drew Gooden. Drew was able to stuff stats, but we generally played worse when he was on the floor. JJ Hickson has been the same way throughout his career.

Cavs fans have a tendency to love and overvalue our own players. I think that's what we are seeing here. Tristan is probably worth $10-11M per year at most. Rich wants a reward for assisting in the Lebron return so he wants $14-15M. Cavs offered a very generous $12.5M...he should've pounced on it. I hope it backfires big time. Maybe he blossoms, develops a reliable shot and takes his game to another level. I really have my doubts. Either way, i don't see him getting offered anything significantly more than the Cavs offered. So it was worth the risk. Let him prove he's worth it on a contender.

Personally, i'd be looking to package him for a Center.

But I'd also like to point out that his rate of getting blocked at the rim has nearly quadrupled....

I don't have any stats to back that up, but seriously if he wants 14 million a year he can go clog the lane for some other team.

I was just talking about the player. Not the pawn in the game. Not the contract. Not the draft position. And I am not nearly as much of a fan as I used to be. Just showing that in terms of blocks, statistically he has doubled his rate from lat year. That's all.
