Tristan Thompson

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Outside of Asik, who is making almost $15 million this season, you are adding up salaries for guy on rookie deals, cheap rookie deals at that. So why don't you explain how that is relevant.

Fault him for overvaluing his worth?... come on.

If hed a signed that deal that would be the single worse contract weve given since iv personally been a fan

So is this only active when he plays poorly? Big time game in Love's absence tonight.

Always like this. I have been saying he is clutch all year. He can score at the end of games. Hit the free throw today too.

I don't get it. Putting up 9.9 ppg, 8 rpg, 3.7 offensive boards a game, 1 block, shooting 54.4% from the floor in less than 30 minutes a night. Guy has improved his scoring efficiency, TS%, free throw rate, WS/48, Offensive Rating, ORB%, and PER every single year while still being just 23 years old. Is the only guy I have seen give consistent effort on a game by game basis. Doesn't make a fuss when he is moved from the starting lineup to the bench. Yet in here he is the plague of the basketball world. People are letting the fear of him being overpaid this summer take away from what he is actually doing on the floor this year.

Tristan has improved. No doubt about that.

He's still not worth anything close to $14 million, and the Cavs would be insane to throw that at him.

I'm not saying he is worth that and never have. It's just a shame that we are letting that future issue get in the way of appreciating what he is giving us every night so far this year.

24 points, 12 boards, and 2 blocks with really efficient shooting. Not bad, TT, not bad at all. Keep this up every night and you'll get that max :chuckle:

Honestly all the time he spends guarding centers could be a boon to him if he ever goes back to pf. Just that physicality will really help him. We saw it tonight when he was paired with Mozgov.

I know people get upset when a huge center pinks him, but that used to happen to Anderson too. TT is a lot more durable than Anderson so TT may still have a lot of upside. He really seems to be playing smarter this year and that is a major step.

Fun fact: Tristan is 13/64 (20.3%) on jump-shots this year. 8/32 (25.0%) from less than 8ft, 5/32 (15.6%) from everywhere else.

Tristan is in fact shooting just 20.3% on 64 attempts on 'jumpshots' per NBA.com. The rest of those numbers are confusing to say the least.

More simply and perhaps usefully, here are Tristan's shooting numbers to this point:

64.9% on 205 attempts in the restricted area

31.6% on 57 attempts in the paint but outside the restricted area

26.7% on 30 attempts from mid-range

While only that restricted area percentage is good (and it's quite good actually), and the other two are poor, it's perhaps most important to note that shot distribution. That is, Tristan has taken 205 of his 292 field goal attempts from the restricted area (70%). For comparison Drummond is at 78%, Faried is at 61%, and Steven Adams is at 64%. All of that is to say is that Tristan isn't that far off from the shot distribution we'd like to see (No, he's never going to be DeAndre Jordan @ 94%).

He needs to stop taking those jumpshots (20.3%). He's 69/74 on dunks (93.24%). Just keep it simple - layups and dunks, don't get cute with the finesse game, it's not your forte Tristan.

He doesn't need to do anything. As STAT said, 70% of his shots are in the restricted area which means he is doing exactly what you are asking for in this post. BRef has him taking 192 of his 292 (65.7%) FGA at the rim and an additional 68 attempts from 3 to less than 10 feet. That's 89% of his shots within 10 feet. I think we're all fine with that number. For reference, last year he attempted 81.3% of his shots from within 10. 87.6% the year prior. Highest % since his rookie year when he couldn't do anything but dunk or make a put back off an ORB.

My biggest issue is we still find ways to have him with the ball in his hands as the shot clock is winding down, and we all know he struggles with that. 82games has him taking 14% of his shots as the clock is winding down and he as yet to hit 1. Probably pads his bad shooting numbers and his attempts from outside the paint a bit. He needs to pass more in these situations (which is a huge knock on him from me, but a completely different issue).
