Tristan Thompson

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
TT has value, no doubt. He'll be even more valuable when he learns to pull down rebounds and kick the ball out to the many shooters on this team when he's in traffic.

His biggest flaw is that he does not recognize when it's the right time to re-set a possession rather than force a shot back up. And the right time for Tristan to do that is when there's someone in between him and the basket.

It's not like that's something he couldn't learn...

For ~$10 mil or less/year, I'm absolutely with you. I think his consistency and ability to stay healthy are absolutely being overlooked here as well. We all saw how badly losing Varejao hurt us this season and Love, while he's had healthy seasons, is no lock to stay healthy himself. We need a guy like Tristan for the long haul.

With regards to the Thompson/Jonas argument, I think Jigo is being purposefully extreme with his opinions about Tristan (to get a rise out of homers). With that said, after disagreeing for the last few years, I think I'm now ready to admit that Jonas is the better player with the higher ceiling at this point.

He is getting better though. In past years he would have never done it, and at least now it a more common occurrence.

I also think TT has a problem with recognizing where he is on the court because a lot of times he positions himself literally underneath the hoop or gets a rebound and finds himself in that position and does not realize that the hoop is acting as a second defender and getting off a shot from there will be extremely difficult.

I think it just comes down to the fact that he is not an offensive player, and so his brain isn't wired to work effectively at that end. I am so happy that Blatt designed some plays to get him in position for alley-oops though, as he seems to be able to do that well at least.

Both he and Love Getting blocked should be reduced now that Mozgov must be accounted for. They both try to draw those fouls around the basket when they would likely be better off kicking it out. Drawing fouls is one of my least favorite plays.

Tristan definitely did his thing today. I gotta say he really has a knack for showing up in big games. He cleaned up a lot of our misses and earned us a lot of 2nd chances on the offensive end with his timely rebounds.

Good game TT.

Tristan is a guy who has an immense value when he's the 5th guy on the floor. Meaning, when surrounded by four other guys who receive a lot of attention, he has the motor and does things the right way and can impact the game in a huge way. We've seen this consistently when this team has been at full strength(1st Bulls game, Clippers game, today) When surrounded by other role players, his flaws and limitations show much more. It sounds like a backhanded compliment but its not. There are plenty of players who can't do the simple things he does.

His offensive rebounding is quite clearly elite now. Can't just explain it away as "picking up his own misses" as people used to say earlier in his career.

Really good game for him today.

Amazing what happens when you add depth and guys can play roles that they are more comfortable in.

its funny, TT isnt and will never be what grant drafted him to be...he's never going to be shooting jumpers

however he developed this incredibly elite ability to grab offensive rebounds which could be huge for us in a playoff series. he's the energy big every great team needs

Especially in the playoffs. When things get ugly, nasty and slow in the playoffs, and FG%'s drop, Tristan;s game will be even more valuable.

If he plays like this every night and not try to prove to everyone that he's undersized by trying to slam everything, he's a keeper. He's like a poor man's Rodman when it comes to offensive rebounding. He's squirming and worming his way to the basket and even perimeter players have to occasionally come down and help box him out. Pay the man if he plays like this consistently every night.

He also draws a lot of fouls trying to get offensive boards that don't show up in his stat line. Very impressed with him as of late, he has always had a great attitude about the game.

TT contributes to winning basketball. As an energy big off the bench he is in his proper role and he absolutely flourishes in it. A lot of teams would kill for a guy like TT as a starter. We have the luxury of having him as a 7th man.

He has his limitations but when he doesn't have to be relied on to be a starter his skillset really thrives.
