Tristan Thompson

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
TT looked like he made the right adjustments in the second half. He definitely looked scared out there, but I think we are all going to see a big improvements over the next couple of games. Once he gets comfortable out there, he'll be a beast.

Yeah, excusing him from being nervous/excited for playing his first minutes in the NBA, in the 2nd half he turned into a guy who was drawing fouls, blocking shots, and making plays. He also missed assignments, didn't show much of an offensive game besides causing problems around the basket, and I don't remember him passing the ball. I am very excited about his potential, but he has a ways to go.

Tristan's shooting is pretty ridiculous. The ball leaves his hands and heads off it strange directions. High, low, left and right. New and unexpected things happen with each shot. If he made the same mistakes every time, i'd hold out hope that he could fix things quickly, but that debut after working on his shot for 6 months? I'm going to keep my expectations low going forward.

I mean, can't anyone work on there shot if they're determined? I guess I'm hoping he's determined to do so. It's not like he doesn't have good coaches around (or the money, now, to hire a shooting coach). He's still young enough I think. Hell I'm constantly working on mine and I just turned 31. (though I suck, haha)

I think it's a weird thing for Tristan and us, the fact of the matter is he's probably going to be a lot better than JJ at a lot of things, so we'll think he's doing great, but at the same time we really overrated JJ when he was here, so?? I don't know. Good to see he made some adjustments.

Safe bet there. Didn't we just watch JJ for a few years trying to improve his jumper?

You could certainly see the improvement in some games, but his eFG% on his jumpers only climbed from around 30% his first two years to 35% last season.

otoh, I don't think there's much to take away from that game. Both teams looked completely unready to be playing basketball. In a normal season, when a player is unable to workout in the pre-season it often takes them a few weeks in to the regular season to not look like crap. It could be that way for much of the league this season.

I finally have my Tristan comparison, he is a Leon Powe with Amare level hops... If anyone remembers the '08 finals Leon Powe won Boston that ring with his hustle, defense and rebounding. Definitely peculiar to take at 4, but it's going to pay off because Tristan is not good enough to mess up our draft position this year. By the time Tristan is a legitimate threat hopefully the Cavs will be back in contention and that is exactly when you need a Leon Powe (w/ Amare hops) type of guy ; )

Offensively, thats a great comparison. I think TT will be a much better defender though.

It's one of the worst shots in recent memory.

People need to realize that there are many players who never become good shooters...or have any touch regardless of a great work ethic.

Ben Wallace made a successful career out of a <50% FT shooting and strong rebounding and defense. I believe Tristan can do the same, with the definite potential to gain some offensive ability.

So did Bo Outlaw. So what are you saying?

I just don't understand how you can be in the NBA and have such an ugly looking shot. I just don't get it. How did guys like Shawn Marion never fix their shot? Really, it is not hard to have solid form/motion while shooting a jumpshot.

Um, I'm guessing he's saying "Don't turn into Bo Outlaw"?

I didnt think it looked that bad. Even Austin Carr mentioned it wasnt as bad as he thought it was going to be. What do I know though lol.

It didn't look bad at all. He has a really nice smooth motion and release. I don't know what you guys were watching, not herky jerky at all and seems to be there on every shot. What I saw was sometimes he would just leave the ball too flat, like AC said. The times he put some arch/touch on the ball it looked beautiful.

Also, I loved that little right hand floater he shot in the post. It was nice and quick and he got it up over the defender really fast. It just missed the mark a little bit, I thought it was going in at first. If I had to grade him:

First Half: D-
Second Half: B+/A-

The guy was rebounding, blocking shots, and running th floor. That's what I expected out of the draft, and he's giving us that. He's only going to get better.
