Tristan Thompson

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Tristan is going to have some issues staying out of foul trouble this season--clearly, but I was very pleased to see him working the glass on the offensive end which generated points and trips to the foul line.I really think he can work his way to a 65- 70% FT shooter over time. His form isn't that bad, it's simply going to take work and repetition.

I came away very impressed with TT (second half). He was as active as advertised and demonstrated at times the tremendous athletic ability we've been hearing about. He will most assuredly have his ups and downs this season--as all rookies do, however I sense the downs will be a tad more pronounced and lingering but the ups will show definite flashes of what he can grow into. I really think TT in two to three seasons will be viewed as a very good choice at #4 and a definite building block that will put us back in eventual contention.

I didnt think it looked that bad. Even Austin Carr mentioned it wasnt as bad as he thought it was going to be. What do I know though lol.

Agreed. He seemed to adjust on his second free throw every time, and for the most part, make them. But his first shot was always flat. If Byron can run out on the court and remind him to put some air under the damn ball before every free throw he'd be golden. :chuckles:

Also, Tristian had 1 foul in the 2nd half (and played just as much of it as Kyrie and the rest of the bench). It was with 1:24 left in the game.

It didn't look bad at all. He has a really nice smooth motion and release. I don't know what you guys were watching, not herky jerky at all and seems to be there on every shot. What I saw was sometimes he would just leave the ball too flat, like AC said. The times he put some arch/touch on the ball it looked beautiful.

Consider Jamison. He does some crap with the ball with his flings and scoops. But he's got a knack for getting the ball in the hole. Now consider Tristan Thompson. He's emulating text book shooting form. The ball goes all over the place at random. Tristan Thompson has no shooting touch what so ever. The only thing that gets the ball close to the hoop is luck. Varejao as a rookie had a better shooting touch.

I wish I would of recorded the game because when I was watching Tristan shoot it didn't look all too bad. He just needed to get more air under the ball and get used to his release point. Is it just me?

Yeah, it wasn't quite the mess it was made out to be...

Id like to see thompson and samuels alternate some time with varejao but i dont think Scott is gonna keep the vets seperate on the court for all three pre season games.

I'm kind of confused as to where all the hate is coming from. He was irrelevant in the first half, but by the 4th quarter he was running the floor, blocking shots, he seemed pretty aware on defense, he was aggressive in taking the ball to the hole, and I was impressed with how strong he went up on a few plays. The kid is wildly athletic, with a knack for offensive rebounding, blocking shots, and he can actually catch the ball from what I've seen. This is the first organized basketball game he's played in months.. cut him some slack. I think he'll be a player.

One preseason game and the jury is out. Go figure. Our sense of Trstan will be defined no sooner than the end of this season. We will see the good bad and the ugly, but if his trajectory shows he is committed and coach able, that is the thing. I think we can already see the physical tools are at least on a par with where JJ was. Now we need to see if the tool between his ears is any better.

Let me first say, I am excited about Tristan. I think he'll be a solid defender in this league, and if he can develop his offensive skills, can blossom into a starting PF in this league.

But...I don't know if I'm along here or not...I'd love to know the scoop about why the Cavs FO chose him at #4 over JV? It seems to me that JV has a much higher ceiling, and has already proved his worth playing in a top league in Europe. Even if we were unsure he wouldn't come over for the 2011-2012 season, why does that really matter to this team? We're not going to be competing this year, nor next year. It won't be until 2013 that we will truly be ready to start competing again. At that point, he'd be in his 2nd year. I just don't see how the Cavs would have TT ranked above JV at this point? I'm just wondering if there was something our scouts saw, or something else (character issues?) that led us to draft TT instead of JV?

Anyone have any ideas...

Ah shit, not this again...

Because JV is a white big from Europe who needs to add bulk. I'm sure the FO didn't want to pull a Darko with the #4 pick and I think Darko was a better prospect that JV. Let's just say that's the reason. Also I'm sure with the way fan base is and how hungry we are, they didn't want to risk drafting a guy the fans didn't get to see play before in college and weren't going to see for a year after he was drafted. Combine Darko part two with Rubio part two and you have your reason

out of curiosity which NBA team do you scout for?

If I had to choose between Thompson or Jonas to go out and play acceptable defense on Dwight Howard, Amare Stoudamire, or Chris Bosh, I'm going to guess that Thompson is going to be that pick every time.

He doesn't need to be all that offensive right now. Having a willing and able passer in Irving at the point, I have a sense that Thompson is going to get most of his buckets within 2-3 feet this season.

What we saw in the first game only matters if he looks exactly the same in January or February. As long as we see the kid improve on his weaknesses and play hard with each minute he earns, this season can put him well on his way to being a very good player for Cleveland.

I get what you're saying, but January is less than 2 weeks away... :chuckles:
