Tristan Thompson

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Once the new TV money kicks in TT's contract won't look so horrid.
Hopefully its a 5 year deal with a team option or no option at all if we are going to get bent over and pay him over 80M. 5 years 80M+ and a player option would be pathetic.

We all agree that Mozgov > TT for us right?
things has changed since he was brought to the team.
I don't want this new contract of TT to affect Mozgov's future with the team, it's gonna make me really depressed.
Mozgov deserves big money where TT, not so much, I know that Gilbet knows that Mozgov is more valuable to this team, Lebron knows it too so if Gilbert could somehow stand his ground and tell Lebron he has to choose between these two players.

Mozgov is invaluable to this team and I can't stand what TT and his agent are doing.

I'm really beginning to dislike Rich Paul.

My understanding is that it was Rich Paul that was one of the main influences that pushed Lebron to come back.

Lebrons family wanted him back in Ohio. That along with the fact that Wade was falling apart and Lebron had to carry the load were the main factors.

In all my years of watching basketball, I've never seen someone who's good at one thing, and he's only good at that because no one guards him, get paid a max contract. He and his agent are delusional. LeBron too.
Teams have to gameplan for Tristan offensively when he is on the floor precisely because he is such an extraordinary rebounder.

You don't think that Pau Gasol was "guarding" against the things that TT can do on this play?

He's barely even paying attention to the play and, when Jones begins his shooting motion, he immediately attempts to body up Tristan. Except, it didn't matter that Gasol was preoccupied with TT. He went right around him and embarrassed Gasol and the other four Bulls that were standing around as he secured the rebound.

He was a terror on the offensive glass all playoffs long. This is getting ridiculous. I can understand being annoyed that this process is taking time and that Tristan is going to get a nice, big check just before the cap goes through the roof, but to sit here and pretend like he's some throwaway who could be easily replaced if not for James' friendship is asinine.

Tristan took some major strides this year and he fits a role perfectly on this team... and he's still very young. It's easy to get caught up in the moment, but in the grand scheme, few people are even going to remember these negotiations. It'll get worked out and we'll have a championship contending team for the foreseeable future. And, hopefully Tristan continues his tremendous improvement as he approaches his prime.

Agreed. We may be overpaying TT compared to other players in the league, but he has shown to be an elite offensive rebounder. That yields extra possessions and as RBA described above, it makes the whole defense worry about where the 'not threat' is standing. He's also a pretty good on ball defender, decent defensive rebounder, and incredibly durable. I agree with everyone that $80mil+ for 5 years seems like too much money, but we cannot replace this guy with our payroll. We either pay him or chase mMLE guys a year from now.

I always liked reading your posts even though I didn't always agree with it in Inside Hoops. But, man, I couldn't control go through so much shitty posts there. Glad to have you posting here.

The thing with TT is that he was trying to find his way as a player up until the K-Love went down. He now knows that he is able to wreak havoc on the offensive boards and become a defensive anchor. If he can improve on just those two disciplines, he'll be a dominant player. Maybe not for an entire game but in crucial end of game plays. That's where I envision him making the most impact. Something like Dennis Rodman (which I begged him to model his game after and eventually gave up on seeing his development appeared to have stalled). I can recall countless many times when Rodman would pull down critical rebounds during end game situations. The things that he did would not show up in the box score or top-ten highlights but the end results were game changing. And the fact that he can stay healthy is strange lol. Take a chance and pay the man. If we had Love and KI in the Finals, GS would be lowballing Draymond Green right now seeing how TT would dominate his whiney ass.

TT averaged 4.5 offensive rebounds and 11.4 points per 36 minutes this season. Mozgov averaged 3.5 offensive rebounds and 15.2 points per 36 minutes this season. Kevin Love averaged 2 offensive rebounds and 17.5 points per 36 minutes. So at most, we are talking about a difference in 2.5 offensive rebounds between a specialist and your average big. Since we score about 1 point per possession, this is additional 2.5 points. You can add this to TT's stat line and you get 13.9 points per 36 minutes. This is not something you pay 16-18 million dollars for. Maybe TT's defense is really good, and that's why he will be payed so much, but let's not overplay the offensive rebounds angle.

Some poster told me this deal had already been finalized

bad sources on here

True, but you can't look at this in a bubble of offensive rebounds. It must be the overall player and what that player adds to the team. It must be the FIT of that team. All things put together is what makes the player and the team a very good fit. No; great fit. TT is a great fit for the Cavs. No other team he could possibly be on would have that same fit. It's the fit that makes the money for the player. TT fits the team. The team does not fit TT. This is what the Cavs will be paying on.

TT and the Cavs button things up by this Wednesday, the 8th.

wow T.T is really pushing it.....
i'm kinda surprised at how greedy he can be for a one trick pony, is he really that delusional that he actually believes hes a max player?

I think its best to let him test the market and match any offer, no way anyone is giving him the max
