Tristan Thompson

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
The warriors are apparently interested in TT, as a replacement for David Lee.

That would be interesting.

do teams know that if you offer tristan and his agent 4 years 100m you are not actually getting lebron james too? I think they are confused he is part of the deal at this point and I have to remind them....

Yeah, it honestly felt like Haynes is working for Rich Paul. The bias was pretty overwhelming.

That's because he basically was.

He's shown a willingness to be a shill for agents/players in exchange, I assume, for inside info down the line. The problem is he sounds ignorant as fuck while doing it.

Tristan is in the same class as the big three? Gimme a fucking break...

If you put aside what you think a player is worth and simply analyze the over abundance of cap space next year from the 19 million cap hike and contrast that with the available potential FA talent next summer, it's really not that far fetched.

Guys like DeMar DeRozan are going to get 25 million. Moz will have a market between 15-20 million.

There will be teams that consider Tristan at between 17-22 million NEXT offseason.

The notion that at 23 he has no more growth potential in his game is foolish to me. The notion that he's a glorified Reggie Evans/Chuck Hayes is even worse.

I hope this works out with us getting him for bw 14-16 per year this offseason. Yes he has no market now because of RFA and most teams already spending their money, but the money will be their from other teams for him next year if it gets to that. Teams with offensive centers will value him. Teams with no centers and lots of shooters will sell themselves on projecting him as the modern small ball center.

He's going to have a healthy market if he hits FA next year and the 89 million cap is one of the main reasons why.

None of that is a defense of his position in this FA or a battle cry for what our approach should be to him. It's just what I believe will be the reality of the FA market will be next year. If you feel he's not worth what he's asking, I can totally understand and respect that position.

You raise some good points as always.

Won't a decent chunk of team salary be allocated also toward contract extensions? If a team suddenly has 20 million to play with maybe they would look to lock up some of their existing players longer term and use salary cap space that way?

Still feeling my way with all this CBA stuff and so forth.

When you read a story, it's usually pretty obvious who the source(s) is/are.

No different in Haynes' story, I think.

seriously fuck tristian, what the hell is wrong with him?
he has some huge delusions of grandeur, and its pretty hilarious he thinks hes a max player yet teams ain't offering him shit lol
Did anyone offer Greg Monroe a contract last offseason when he was a RFA? Did that have anything to do with how they saw Greg Monroe as a player or was it because of the dynamics of RFA.

Continue on with the misplaced frustration. Until anything actually happens, this is a non story. It's not affecting anything else were trying to do at the moment. It is purely negotiation and a waiting game. We're in the slow time of the offseason so it gives people something to unload on. But this is a message board so fair enough. I understand the people who feel like he's not worth what he is reportedly asking for via his agent.

For any player eligible for an extension next offseason like Davis was this season, the extension won't kick in in the salary cap until the following year.

For any team with a RFA like Middleton, Reggie Jackson, Kawhi, etc. the cap hold is very small until the actual deal is officially signed. So you do what the Spurs did which is technically sign LMA before signing Kawhi(even though the Kawhi extension was announced before LMA had verbally committed)

In short, there will just be tons of money in play for next offseason and the FA crop is not as stellar as even this years was. There is more money and cap space available next summer than great players to spend it on. That will equal very large overplays, especially on younger players, like the one we're discussing in this thread.

Again, not using this an argument for how to handle Tristan, just saying do not mistake his lack of offers this summer as a RFA as indicative for what the market will be for him next offseason if he hits UFA

Cool, let a non-contender pay him obscene amounts of money and make zero traction towards a Finals berth. Perhaps with his newfound wealth TT can order all the pizzas for his teammates when they get together to watch us play in them.
