Tristan Thompson

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
TT for DeRozan, TPE for backup big. Would either side have any interest in something like this? Had we not just re-signed JR it might interest the Cavs, though I guess if we moved TT we could possibly see a lot of Irving, Shump/JR, DeRozan, James, Moz/Love. Just throwing out DeRozan as he was mentioned previously in the offseason as a guy Toronto was leery about giving money.
The Raptors would be too thin at the wings to trade DeRozan for Thompson this season.

The Raptors will have to decide next offseason how much they are willing to pay DeRozan, be it $20 million a year or $24 million a year. They may be leery about giving the max (under the new cap next year) but I will be very surprised if he signs for anything under $20 million a year.

I don't understand why people who are leery of the Cavs tax situation want to trade TT for DD as DD will be more expensive to retain next year.

Just to throw some wood on the fire.... I just watched the highlights from the Cavs spurs game early in the season. And Varejao was killing it with our starters. He was finding open spaces, hitting jumpers, and setting great picks. Let me ask this. If he stays healthy does TT get the playing time he did and could he be asking for as big of a contract? I know its a lot of "if's" but Just interesting thought...

They are either over the cap or close enough that it wouldn't much matter.

Raps are $1.4 over and have a $1.9M cap hold they'd have to renouce. http://www.spotrac.com/nba/toronto-raptors/cap/

Cavs could only take back up to the largest TPE + 25%, so about $10M.

Would need a third team with cap space to facilitate. Only teams with enough space to facilitate this year are Portland, Philly and Utah.

Next year, they'd have to dump salary to sign him for more than $15M per.

Translation - It ain't happening.

Wait- how is the fact that they need to clear cap space a sign it won't happen? Are they devoid of assets going forward to facilitate this? If Toronto really wants him, their best bet it wait for Tristan to hit FA and save their trade assets, since the cost to dump a little salary will be far less than to equal salaries right now (DeRozan). Hell, they could 'dump' DeRozan next year, possibly even gain an asset or two in doing so, then sign Tristan outright. This looks more than doable for Toronto. Thing is, I can't see them purposely putting all their eggs in the TT basket now- have to see how they look by the next off season. But hardly a situation that anyone can decry as 'not happening' next off season.

Tristan still runs down the court like an awkward prepubescent teen. He's talkin bout making max, but his balls ain't dropped yet. Fuck him.

I want to see a line up of mo, ki, jr, lbj, and love. That has nothing to do with tt, but there would be a lot of points scored for both teams if they were out there.

Fuck, been drinking in the sun again...

Yeah, fuck tt, awkward wank stain. He'd probably say sorry to me for calling him that.

Honestly I have nothing against him, just can't believe he thinks he's worth that many titty tokens.

If I went to my boss and said I wanted to make the max of what club pros make, we'd probably both laugh before he'd say sure as long as I pass a drug screening. Then I'd laugh and say I was kidding.

Nones putting all their eggs on TT basket. The guy was on a team that didn't make play offs for years. Big three happens and he has 1 good play off season. Now he can be "the guy"? Hype much?

Let him take QO. He won't get more than 5/60 next FA.
With Mozgov, Kaun, Av he won't see much minutes as center. If Love is healthy, TT is screwed. Even if he sees enough minutes, if cavs don't make finals or does not win it all, his value drops dramatically.

A healthy Varejao is night and day better offensively but his defense has dropped off considerably. However, if somehow he were to stay healthy an entire season, you'd assume he would get close to as many minutes as TT. However, i still expect TT to see tons of minutes down the stretch late in games. His rebounding is too valuable when closing games.

If Andy was healthy and effective, they don't surrender the two first rounders for Mozgov- a trade that was able to be made both by the injury exemption and by the Cabs' desperate need for a center. So no, Tristan's minutes would have remained about the same since Varejao was only playing 25 minutes a game anyway- about right for a 33 year old big man that a team is trying to save for the playoffs. Once Love went down Tristan then would have still slid into his full-time role. The Cavs then either use those first rounders for a combo of LBJ backup, backup PG or another big man not named Mozgov. The Cavs also would have finished the year with a parade down the non-riot destroyed sections of Euclid, and Tristan would have declared there he is a 'Cavalier For Life'. The Cavs, with no other big man but Love locked up long-term, cave quickly to their star 6th man and Finals hero.

I don't give a shit what we pay him.

I just want it over with so that we can start discussing how long our dynasty will last, how insanely deep yet young our contender is, and how large of monument LeBron will get in Akron.

Just get it over with for the love of Christ. I want to go back to happy fandom.

Pau Gasol, F, Bulls (Player Option): An All-Star last season, Gasol became the oldest player to lead the league in double-doubles at 34. Gasol averaged 18.5 points, 11.8 rebounds and two blocks per game. If he approaches similar production, expect Gasol to opt out of his $7.8 million player option. At this stage of his career, Gasol is focused on chasing another title. If the Bulls regress, Gasol may cut bait similar to David West at a discounted price to join an elite contender.

A guy can dream, right? :)

Gasol should have joined us last season. The Bulls made no fucking sense whatsoever unless it was a decision of pride.

Im still not sure why Thompson would consent to have his QO withdrawn to become a free agent so he can be signed and traded.
Several things here.
in a sign and trade contract it must be for three years and no more than 4.
Also only the first season must be guaranteed

If Thompson wants to sign such a contract he might as well go on a championship run under the QO and taken his chances in free agency next season.

Just not true. They were trying to acquire T-Mo during the summer before season started. Once it started two things were quite clear -- Wild Thing, TT & Love couldn't stop the Stay-Puff Marshmallow man at the rim, and (2) Kyrie could barely keep his dick in front of him let alone his man, which made rim protection that much more important.

The injury sped the process, but I just don't think there is any chance they wouldn't have tried to pick up a rim protector during the season. They just might not have surrendered two firsts to get him. But the Nugz had the Cavs over a barrel after the injury.....

That's my point, though. I don't see why the Nuggets would have felt in a hurry to deal him and thus I don't see how the Nuggets would have accepted any less- the first rounders are going to be low- and sans the injury I don't see the Cavs dealing the two firsts to get him. They would have found a cheaper option not named Mozgov.
