Tristan Thompson

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Even with filters, does it really change much. When you are trying to argue a guy is worth near max money, if he isn't a dominant offensive player, then he would have to be a dominant defensive player. Something that the stats don't prove. Rebounding specialists do not make the max.

While it may just be a negotiating tactic, I could see this actually being the end game. Either the Cavs pay him the max, or he'll go play for less with Toronto next year. Seen it before with guys coming off of rookie deals. They reaaallly want to play somewhere else, but max money is too good to pass up. I really do think TT on the QO is the most probable scenario at this point.

I'd celebrate a trade for Tristan at this point. I know we're not getting Jonas. I'd be open to taking back Patterson. They are still under the cap, aren't they? Technically? I know not enough likely to offer Tristan the full max, or around that.

So would a Tristan for say Patterson be possible? I'd do that in a second if we could.

Patterson is cheap, Tristan won't be. Patterson is more an ideal fit, too. But I can't see why Toronto would do this.

Bobby Marks had said a few things about a TT trade a while back, not sure how likely a trade is but maybe people would be curious about his comments:

Team A would take back the full amount of his salary and would need to fit under the Traded Player Exception.

    Bobby Marks ‏@BobbyMarks42 Aug 10
So for Example: TT signs a $16m per contract is traded to Team A. CLE can only acquire 125% of $8m in a trade (roughly $10.1m)

Other note for TT and I don't think we are heading in that direction: Sign/trade # used in a trade would only be 50% of his salary.

The Man Called X causing quite the stir on Twitter. :chuckle:

Signing him is the top priority even if trading him is the aim but then again if we sign him he's ours and we don't really have to trade him so whatever. How many guys making around 6 million could we trade for to get back equal value?

We'd undoubtedly have to trade AV as well to get anybody good back

I was referencing this, because the Raptors I believe, are under the cap. So we wouldn't need matching salaries necessarily.

And if the Cavs don't want to pay Tristan what he wants, and the Raptors are willing to, I was just throwing that out there. The Cavs save money and get a replacement for Tristan.

But I don't think it's going to happen. Raptors would have to be crazy to do that. I think it's Paul just trying to use this as leverage.

They did grossly overpay Carroll, so who knows.

They are either over the cap or close enough that it wouldn't much matter.

TT for DeRozan, TPE for backup big. Would either side have any interest in something like this? Had we not just re-signed JR it might interest the Cavs, though I guess if we moved TT we could possibly see a lot of Irving, Shump/JR, DeRozan, James, Moz/Love. Just throwing out DeRozan as he was mentioned previously in the offseason as a guy Toronto was leery about giving money.

This is a god damn shame if this is true, in todays day and age.

If DeRozan wasn't seeking a max, I would do that. Or if TT is really serious about going to Toronto, then I would be fine with a rental over nothing. But the ideal situation would be to add a couple long term pieces. I might rather have Patterson and/or Ross and/or picks or some sort of a combination of, but I'm not sure TT holds that much value unless the Raptors really want him.
