No coach could have had this roster playing respectable NBA defense with the assemblage of talent without Lebron.

Still, players are botching too many rotations and looking confused far too often. Lue deserves his share of blame for that, as he is the supposed defensive coach. Also, either Blatt has communicated to Lue that he can call timeouts as Blatt adjusts to the NBA game, or he hasn't and Blatt should tell him to stop immediately if we wants to remain on the bench.

Hopefully with the new additions and a full, healthy lineup of Shump+Lebron+Mozgov this will smooth out over time. We should at least be able to scratch together an average NBA defense with a bit of work.

I find it funny that on all of these threads people are assuming that Blatt is the smartest guy in the room. Very strange.

Wait, are we talking basketball IQ or general intelligence?

Its just funny to me that people on this forum are trying to find a way to blame everybody but Blatt for the team struggling right now. Rick Pitino resume is better than Blatt's correct ? What did he look like as an NBA head coach? John Calipari resume is better than Blatt correct how good of a head coach was he at the NBA level? Both of them have been coaching for 20 + years. Euroleague is a wonderful league but the top players in that league usually make their way over to the NBA and become role players at best. I would say college is more elite than Euroleague. So basically Blatt just might not be able to be an elite NBA head coach thats not to take away his accomplishments it just could be a fact.

Also I think it's ridiculous to blame Lue for the team's shortcomings so far. He's the assistant coach in charge of the defense but what does that really mean? I've never heard of an NBA team failing because of a fault of an assistant coach. Honestly the first time I've seen people campainging for an assitant coach's head...that's ridiculous.

Defense is largely about effort. Our guys don't seem to be putting in that much effort of that side of the floor and, whether fair or not, that falls directly on Blatt's shoulders. Getting your players to buy-in and be motivated to play good defense every play for 48 minutes is part of the head coach's job.

I think people are more worried about Firing Blatt and Making Lue the Head coach. That is a very possible scenario and if that happens - Have we seen enough from Lue to know that will work?

The ideas are confirmed. It's happened. Multiple people know about it and have said it. For Blatt to confirm that Lue isn't, "allowed to," means that all of the disfunction is real.

I'm glad they finally asked him. As anticipated, I can't imagine there was a "good" answer he could have given.

They should ask Lue, too...

Lue will deny it just like Blatt did. It only makes sense for him to follow his superior's lead when it's convenient for him to do so.

LeBron will plead the 5th.

Blatt will be gone in the near future. This all lines up too well.

That should be on camera somewhere, Lue calling timeouts...no?

You mean like this? Wasn't behind his back though, was kind of, you know, right in front of him. But def looks like a timeout signal

No, not really...

I think contending Blatt is "dumber" than Lue is a fool's errand. What has been clear, however, is Blatt is really struggling in certain areas of the NBA game. I.E., he is really having trouble with when to call timeouts, rotations/minutes, and adjusting his offense to the talent on this team. I think he has the talent to be an NBA head coach, but maybe not for this team. One thing Spo did really well (maybe the only thing) is adjust to how his team could/wanted to play the game. This Cavs team will never become the Spurs, but, they can become better than the Heat.

don't see it as James appears to be walking away from him and Lue is using his hands to show James a cut or motion he needs to do. If it were a TO, Lue would be turned towards a ref and not looking at James

I guess its all in the way you look at it, in a glass half empty/full kind of way
