Re: USA vs Spain (Gold Metal Game)
No posts from me during the game because I was keeping my girlfriend awake by throwing her all my witicisms. She gave me eleven rep points. Anyways, she just went to bed, so I'm going to get my blog on.
Coach K is the real story of this team for me. Everyone always said he is a great college coach, but multimillionaires would eat him alive in the pros. I don't think I have seen many superior coaching jobs than what he has done in the past four years. Every single young Olympic player under him has improved dramatically in the past four years on one level or another, including our pride and joy. The refs gave us no brakes in this championship, but our defense was simply astounding. Coach K deserves a ton of credit for that. I always said that I support Mike Brown to the hilt, and the only coach that he could possibly be fired for would be if Coach K decided to give the pros a chance. I stand by that opinion, and I grew up hating Duke with a white-hot passion.
I don't like Kobe as a person, but that bastard is clutch. Redemption for the NBA Finals is spelled K-O-B-E. Wes Mantooth out.
Wade is back. When the US squad was in trouble at the beginning of the game, he looked like 2006 Wade. We shouldn't write off that Miami squad this upcoming year.
Remember that the first guy that LeBron hugged after the final whistle blew was Micheal Redd. Just don't forget that.
Rudy Fernandez and Marc Gasol are both going to be factors next season. Fernandez looks like a young Ginobili, and Gasol looks like a Bynum clone. I'm vehemently pissed Paxson put us in a position to acquire neither because of trading away picks for magic beans over the years. That Jaminez kid might also show up in the pros someday... he frustrated the heck out of our team defensively and he had a nice outside shot. Rubio is the real deal, despite many, many young dumbass mistakes. He put Calderon on the bench and he doesn't shave yet.
LeBron: damn, we are going to be in for one amazing year. Despite being surrounded by the best players in the world on his team, Spain still defended him like Boston did in our playoff series. If he had the ball, it was 1 on 4 at all times. He blew some layups which is not like him, but LBJ is clearly the heart and soul of the best team in the world. Right now I'm watching LBJ accept his medal on the podium, and his leadership is all they talk about. I can't wait to see him celebrate like this in a Cavs uni.
