Welcome Shawn Marion #31

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
How the hell does his shot go in? I am still amazed at how that ugly of a shot tends to always have a chance to go in.
Antwan Jamison's career must blow your mind then.

Any ideas when this deal gets made official? Interested to see what he has to say in his press conference.

Sometime between now and training camp, perhaps. Camp begins September 27th.

This is one of the best pickups in Cavs history. The Cavs winning a championship or not will largely depend on how much of a defensive load Shawn Marion can take off of LeBron's shoulders.

It's crazy how many players are willing to take paycuts to be LeBron's teammates.

Now Griff get off your hands and ge me a rim protector! You're slacking off..it's been about 5 minutes since Marion has signed...you're slower than a snail racing a tortise!
Do it now!!!!:chuckle:

I agree that it would be great to reduce Lebron's minutes, but Charles Barkley is so fond of saying, "Father Time is undefeated" and Marion and Miller's ages add up to 70. Come playoffs, that will be 72. I'm setting my expectations low. If the team can get 2000 regular season minutes between the two of them, that would be great. I think it would take a lot of luck to get 4000 minutes from the pair. Injuries and age take their toll. And while I know this is unfair to Shawn Marion, the last 36 year old free agent that the team signed was David Wesley. Sometimes the wheels come off at that age.

And something just seems wrong with the idea that the team might be counting on a pair of guys in their mid 30's reduce Lebron's minutes. It doesn't seem to be the right way to do things. How much gas will Marion and Miller have in the spring if they play that much? What growth with young talent have if they never see the floor? I'd be much happier if the team can find a way to get 1000 minutes for a guy like Joe Harris and to let Tristan play his usual indestructible 2500. The young guys might be better in the spring for the extra minutes, while extra minutes for Marion and Miller probably won't have the same effect.

I agree with the father time statement, but these guys aren't long term answers for reducing LBJs minutes, they are immediate short term plug ins. They are signed to very short contracts and, once their production falls off the cliff, they will be replaced by other similar players. I always felt that was Miami's long term (using veterans on short term deals) to eventually reduce minutes as LBJ aged, but somewhere along the way they got off track (either Riley got arrogant or the owner said he's not paying the taxes and I guess Wade's rapid decline didn't help). Nonetheless, The CAVS need to ensure they have a "minute reducer" on the roster at all times who can play as Kyrie/Love/Dion play the 36 mins a night while they are young and in their prime(s). Right now at this moment Marion seems like the perfect short term fix. In one to two years, they'll find another.

It's difficult to get that long term guy in here to backup James, first teams(Miami and LBJ's first Cle run) unload draft picks, to patch immediate deficiencies. So that's one asset out the door, then once you get a piece in, it's hard to resign them because they've earned a bigger contract which the team can't afford to pay or don't want to pay for 15-18, minutes a night. Economically it doesn't make sense. I think that'll be the plan here as well, after a year or 2, buy that vet minimum buy again and go from there. Right now the Cavs need a rim protector....so what's the cost going to be, will it be address with the draft picks? Via trade or the 2015 draft?

He didn't have a choice. The only other team that could pay more was the Pacers, and even then it was only 1.7M compared to our 1.4M. He wanted to be on a contender, and no was willing to go into luxury (Pacers & Clippers) to get him. Dallas screwed themselves when they signed Chandler. There was a really good article explaining how/why teams could only pay so much. I just can't seem to find it.

? They lost Marion in order to obtain Tyson Chandler and Parsons. That seems like a smart move to me...

Who's 33? Did we get secure a championship and bring Alonzo Gee back????
His old buddy Haywood from Dallas when they bitch-slapped the Heat back in 2011.
Marion was great at that series though
