Welcome Shawn Marion #31

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Some reason i Think id rather see Chauncey than Allen

Nah, Allen still played over 25 minutes last season. His body is in great shape. While not as efficient as he once was, he still shot the 3 ball at a very high rate (0.375%).
Billups couldn't do anything in his last season with Detroit, tbh.

Weve seen players get injury riddled and out of shap and bounce back for a coupe respectable years on their way out. Chauncey seems to be drifting in that category.. Im tired of seeing Allen frankly lol

Why? :chuckles:
I think he could help us more than Billups. Allen already won one championship with James, has build up some great chemistry with him (and Miller/Jones).

He seems redundant and would take time from the youth. I dont think he adds anything to the team.

he'd add great shooting and professionalism... he is 39 yrs old and is the 1st guy on the court on game night.. he also is 1 of the best guys of all time coming off of picks and moving without the ball..something that is huge in this offense.. he could be great for guys like Kyrie and Dion both whom need to work on playing off the ball .. especially Dion .. Chauncey hasn't been healthy in about 3-4 years not just last year .. I'd like to get them both and just stash Chauncey on the IR and play him if need be..let him be a mentor.. this coaching staff is great

Allen would contribute more than Billups. If Allen doesn't try to do too much, and actually embrace the catch and shoot role, he'll be a good pickup, especially in the playoffs. Players have big egos, and last year, Allen did tried to do a bit too much on offense and forced a few things.

Ray is just waiting for the KL trade to become official. He can say whatever he want about not being sure of what he wants to do, but eventually, he'll play for the Cavs. He just doesn't want to come off as a desperate ring chasing washed-up vet. He even said so himself that he has an ego, and he'll want teams to treat him as a major key contributor instead of a role player.

Shoo in? I love Shawn Marion but he's not a future Hall-of-Famer.

4 time all star
top 40 all time offensive rebounds
top 40 in minutes played
top 25 all time in defensive rebounds
top 20 in steals
Top 40 in steals per game
51st in blocks
top 30 in turnover percentage.
top 80 all time in points scored
Starting Player on an NBA championship team.

the guy would of averaged a duble double for his career if he wasnt injured and sat out a year during his all star run. looks like a viable candidate down the road

Looks like Marion apologized already

I like the Shawn Marion signing, but I don't think it really moves the needle that much for the team.

Yes, he was a very good player for quite a long time. Yes, he is probably a better value than a 40 year old Ray Allen at vet minimum salary.

However the Cavs are not getting the 2005 or 2010 Shawn Marion. They are not even getting the 2013 Shawn Marion. They are getting the 2015 Shawn Marion. The 2015 might be a bit better than a minimum salary player, but not a lot better. He's mainly a jump shooter these days. When he was on the court last season, the Mavs offense suffered, the rebounding suffered, the defense really suffered. There's s reason why Dallas wasn't fighting to keep him.

Marion strikes me more as strategic depth signing. He can fill in at multiple positions. He'll be great to have around if there's an injury or a trade. He's going to be a lot better than a d-league call up. I'm not sure he'll get higher than the 8th guy in the rotation on most nights.

Come on doug, you know better than to use unadjusted plus/minus stats, especially when dealing with a team that has so many holes defensively.

According to ESPN's plus/minus, Marion was the 21st best defender out of 75 SFs, which is about what you would expect for a defensive ace well past his prime. Realistically I expect a modest dropoff for him this season, but he should still be around league average on that end, at worst.
