What are the Cavs going to do at C?

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Cavs have to realize that energy big's often run out of steam in their early 30's. A valuable player with an expiration date isn't what you want on a rebuilding team. Rebuilding teams trade that to teams that want to win now. If the NBA plays basketball next year and Andy can show that he's healthy, you can bet that the Cavs will try to trade him for future front court help while his value is high. But that won't happen until Andy can show that he's healthy.

The Cavs could get the best value from Andy from a losing team that isn't ready to commit to a full rebuild and needs an active help defender who can rebound to shore up a soft front court.

Sounds like Andy could go to Toronto.

If only Toronto had the draft rights to a Center that the Cavs like.

Most player start to run out of gas in their 33 - 35 yr range not just energy big's. AV is 29 if he can stay productive for the next 4 years that give 4 drafts and up to 7 1st round pick to find a replacement. I maybe in the minority here but I see Andy as above average starter for the next two years and a top backup the rest of his contract.

We need Robin next draft? I think we need Batman next draft. Maybe two of them. If we want to be a championship-caliber team that's going to win year after year, Kyrie Irving is likely to be the 2nd or 3rd best player on the team unless he turns out to be the second coming of Magic Johnson or at least Christ Paul. Maybe not even with Christ Paul.

I'm not sure things have gotten that bad yet with the Cavs that they need the second coming of Christ.

There's a rumor that CP3 was seen washing David Andersen and Willie Green's feet down by the Gulf on Sunday.

Players that have good length & shooting range often peak after 30 and can still compete into their late 30's. Players that don't have an outside shot and rely on hustle, speed or leaping usually peak in their mid 20's and have a big performance drop off when they hit 30.

While it would be great if Andy was competing for 4 years, he's much more likely to have a Scott Pollard career path than a Donyell Marshall career path. I'm sure the Cavs stats guys know this and will recommend trading him sooner rather than later. I don't want to write Andy off as a "has been" though. He's got a tremendous feel for the game. That's helped him break through the max upside predicted by the stat guys already in his career.

( p.s. Players over 7 foot have a different career pattern. They usually stop being able to play between 32 & 36 as their bodies give out except for the outlying athletic freaks like Shaq and Mutombo . )

Andy's jumper is still developing. He was actually good this past year. But does that really matter? Robert Horry knocked down 3's but missed a lot of games early in his career like Andy has, and he was a pretty darn good defender that always played with energy, took charges, etc, and he lasted until 37.

Given that Andy's game is not reliant on speed or leaping, I really wonder how many players we're actually talking about here?

Pollard certainly is a similar player, but each player's injuries are unique. Scott had a lot of back problems that lasted throughout his period of decline. You might remember when he was with us, we tried to rest him enough hoping he could play occasionally, but it never worked out.

I guess the question is if Andy doesn't bulk up, and we continue to play him at C, how high is the risk he'll suffer a career crushing injury?

We'll have to see how his workouts are going this summer. If he can add significant muscle without losing agility, maybe he'll trend more towards players like Rodman or Horace Grant who both enjoyed long careers.

Assem Ahmed is 2nd at both scoring and rebounding, lets get him instead. Obviously these numbers mean allot so Assem will be a stud in the nba.

okay

If it is so easy to dominate, then what does it tell you that Tyrus Thompson put up a whopping 8 and 5 a year or two ago in the U-19?

It tells me either his guards sucked, he will be a much better player than one tournament, or he sucks.

Basically the numbers from one international youth tourney mean very little. They are merely one minor component when evaluating a prospect.

Perhaps because it was 2 years ago when Tristan Thompson was entering his senior year in high school?

JV's performance is what I call a positive indicator. It's what you'd expect from a player with his experience that you hope will develop in to something special, but it doesn't prove he will.

We're going to have to wait to see what they can actually do head to head :(

please how many players are more fundamentally soubd than anderson?

He by far finished his best season fundamentally just last year. and his jump shot improved by 10 percentage points. He has played with ben wallace and z. he knows what he needs to do to extend his longevity in the nba.

Good player, but I believe both Z and Ben would tell Andy one key thing about NBA longevity:

STAY HEALTHY!

So far, Andy is not getting that done. Hopefully, he will stay healthy and productive through the trade deadline to be moved to the contender with the most to offer.

Sell high!

[Gibson: same deal.]

Some of you need to really let it the fuck go we took Tristan. Not saying you need to be happy about the pick, but whats done is done. TT is a Cavalier, and Jonas is a Craptor. Go root for Toronto if you love Jonas that much.
