It's hard to say. If we can get a legit backup to LeBron, that's more important. However, I'm not sure how many guys available truly fit that category. Obviously Gay would be great but we have no idea if he's available or if we have what's needed to get him. There's a few teams out there I think we could make deals with to pick up a few players that help us.
Charlotte comes to mind first. After drafting Kaminsky and trading for Batum, and Hawes, something has to give with their forward situation. They now have MKG, Batum, and Marvin Williams all under contract at SF. I'd love to get MKG or Williams as part of a Haywood trade. Either would be a great back-up for LeBron and really strengthen the bench. I was surprised to see how Williams has improved his long distance shooting over the past few years. Over the past four seasons he's shot 36% from three on three attempts per game. He's able to play both SF and PF as well. Obviously MKG would be great as well. Maybe we could pry Lamb from them in a deal, too.
Are the Cavs able to be involved in a 3-way trade with a S&T if they aren't the one's taking on the S&T player? No idea how that works with the cap, but something that could make some sense for all parties would be the following:
Cavs get:
Marvin Williams
Patty Mills
Hornets get:
Danny Green
Spurs get:
Haywood
Spurs dump salary in order to pursue LMA. Green gets his money and goes back to Charlotte. Cavs get strong back-ups for LeBron and Irving. This doesn't seem that far-fetched to me. Something has to give if the Spurs want to be able to sign LMA. We'd look like this post trade:
PG: Irving, Mills, Delly
SG: Shump, Smith??, Delly
SF: James, Williams, Jones
PF: Love, TT
C: Moz, AV
That's a damn deep team with a lot of options on offense. Then, we likely bring JR back or go after a bench scorer at SG or possibly a shooting big with the mini-mid. Some guys that could fall into either category at that salary range:
Jerkbo
Belinelli
Barbosa
Ellington
Stuckey
