I don't know what was worse: this trade or the Hickson one.

It's pretty amazing to see the consistency of some teams. The Spurs are another excellent example. They've had one pick higher than 25 (excluding the one they traded for in 2011, obv) in the past 11 drafts yet managed to snag Parker, Ginobili, Blair, Salmons, Splitter, Scola, Hill, etc etc. Gotta admit I am pretty jealous.

The Cavs, as of recently, have a pretty good track record in the 2nd round, actually. Especially if Kahn pans out.

Edit: As for the Hickson trade, I'll say this, I think the Cavaliers were so unimpressed with him, they were willing to press the reset button for a chance to draft another young guy down the road.

Those numbers aren't going to make me forget that one guy is an athletic 7 footer with an outstanding wingspan and the other guy is a pudgy 6'8 guy with gator arms. I'm impressed with Macvan's production, but his future seems to be as a small forward once he is in better conditioning.

Now back to the subject matter:

Parsons has impressed his coaches and teammates early on, the Houston Chronicle reports. "I was amazed at Chandler," coach Kevin McHale said. "When he got to practice for the first time, he made as few mistakes as anybody on the floor just from watching. This kid is really smart. I really wanted us to take a stab at Tyler. I didn't know much about Parsons, but he is looking like he could have been a great fit for us. Everyone was saying how crappy the 2011 draft was, but I think it is going to end up as being deeper than 2012--by that I mean more role players after pick 10 or so will be from 2011. 2012 is top heavy in my opinion compared to 2011, and will most likely have more "stars" (well I think, so tough to project some of these kids), I just don't see the depth yet...but I am def. not a scout and don't get to see all the kids play much.

I wanted to talk more about last years draft and I didn't want to start a new thread, so I will just put this here to see what others thoughts might be--

I really wish we would have traded up to get Marshon Brooks. NJ traded the #27 pick and a future 2nd. We could have traded #32 plus a future Heat 1st (this pick will be late first). I loved that kid before the draft and have no idea how he fell so far. He can score and he has the length and athleticism to be a plus defender. Plus I read somewhere that he had a killer instinct (he even was compared to Kobe in this regard).

OR instead of trading up, would anyone have traded #4 for #9 and #19 from the Bobcats (not saying we could have or they would have, but as soon as we had #4, I thought we should have tried like hell to trade it for two picks as I felt this draft was deeper and the top was not so great--and this is kind of proving itself, but it is still early)? We could have taken Markieff and Brooks with the 2 picks...is Tristan going to be better long term than two players like that? (Markieff may have been a better fit because he can shoot it--making it easier to get a center that plays close to the basket--not the defender that Tristan will be though--so only time will tell).

Young, athletic, talented, four very good shooters, 3 plus side defenders on the floor--prob lose a ton of games due to youth. Next year draft Drummond or if not in the top two--sign Asik (this hurts the Bulls and helps us simultaneously) and go for a Barnes or MKG.

While I agree that the 2013 Miami pick looks like it will be in the 20's right now, I'd hold on to those assets for now. Wade's 30 already and isn't getting any younger. It wouldn't take a lot of bad luck in Miami for that pick to become a lot more valuable than a 27th pick in a week draft.

Even without Wade the Heat would win 55+ games next year. I personally think they are a better regular season team without him. I just don't think that Heat pick will get us a better player than Brooks. But we will find out--and I am hoping I am wrong.

Accoding to Dx, Macvan is currently averaging 15.3 and 8.2 in 31.6 mpg over 10 games for Partizan. He's 55.8% on 2pters, 83.3% from the line, and 37.5% on 3's.

and Valanciunas is currently at 8.4 and 7.1 in 21.3 mpg over 7 games for Vilnius. He's 57% on his 2pters, and 78% from the line.

It would be nice to get a look a MacVan sometime before his contract run out. A 6'8" wrecking ball with scoring touch, savvy, passing, and a 3pt shot may very well find a place in the NBA.

MacVan strikes me as Europe's Kevin Love. Too bad he's under contract until 2015. Still, he'll only be 26 when he's a free agent, so it's worth keeping an eye on him.
