What about Georgia QB Aaron Murray?

Man this is a problem potentially with Kelly... His gimmicky offense is leading to terrible names (just cause they have legs that can move) like Tavaris Jackson or Dennis Dixon... Goodness.. These are not good QB's.....

I don't think that is fair. The draft class is incredibly weak, and we don't have a good QB on the team. It's logical for people to see what moves they may look into. Also, it's important to look at guys who can throw first, because Chip Kelly is not looking to run an Urban Meyer QB inside slam offense. Kelly limits the damage his QB's take, but the threat of the QB keeping the ball is favorable.

All of the guys I listed came into the NFL as "duel-threat" type QB's but have maintained back-up jobs in the NFL based ont heir ability to sling the football. It isn't as if these guys are incapable of slinging it.

If Kelly wasn't rumored to be our next head coach, guys like Dixon or Jackson wouldn't be brought up in this thread. I don't know how you can argue that.

I think we'll stick with Weeden/McCoy for the most part next year - maybe bring in someone to compete for 2nd string. I think the need for a super mobile QB is being overstated - we don't need/want guys like Jackson, Webb, and Robinson. Those guys aren't good and are not going to be.

Once Kelly gets settled will look to draft our QB or make a splash via FA.

I didn't bring up Tavares Jackson, because he has proven he can't throw the football. You're right these guys would not be brought up otherwise, but who else is out there? If Kelly is hired do you anticipate them making a push for Flynn b/c he isn't getting burn in Seattle? Kirk Cousins? T.J. Yates?

I guess my point is, the names I listed weren't to say these are our next starting QB's and the franchise is saved. We are at least a year out from acquiring the QB of our future, in the mean-time, these are some guys I could see being looked into. Could Kelly come in and fit his offense around Weeden? He might, but I don't think it is logical that Kelly would want to kick his initial season off with a project 29 year old QB who only has 1 year of experience in the NFL. It makes more sense to acquire a guy who can handle the framework of what he wants to accomplish and keep the spot warm for whoever they deem to be that guy. I speculated the guy will likely have good athletic ability because it makes Kelly's offense operate more effectively.

It's really not.

Just not enough physical tools to compete at the next level.

So he's a POOR MAN'S Colt McCoy? What?

Aaron Murray has so many more physical tools than Colt it's ridiculous.

I'd say a poor man's Aaron Rodgers if anything. Just, as you said he doesn't have the physical tools.

Calling someone a poor man's Colt McCoy is just unbelievably insulting. :chuckles:

Depends on how much you hate McCoy I guess.

But Murray doesn't really compare to Rodgers at all.

I compared him to McCoy because they're both undersized and have physical limitations which will most likely prevents them from being that great at the next level.

I always feel like I must defend my QB. Brandon Weeden is our guy. Nay-Sayers will say McCoy. The twitter battle, weekly about McCoy/Weeden is ridiculous.

I love my ginger puff!

Very comparable to Rodgers if you watch their games. Both master the back the shoulder throw, both are around the 6'2" area.

Rodger's does have more arm strength, but seriously Murray's isn't as bad as you think it is.

Also calling someone a POOR MAN's something, is saying they are worse than that person.

Like Michael Redd was a poor man's Ray Allen for years. In no way is Murray going to be worse than McCoy. Fact.

Good friend of mine is a huge Georgia fan, and he always compared him to Rex Grossman. Undersized with a penchant for making head scratching picks at bad times.
