Highly unlikely, but Weeden always was going to prove himself over the course of a couple years. Everyone knows he's not a Luck or RG3, where he was going to come in and light it up. He's a smart guy, and it's totally plausible he improves greatly and things in the next year or two.

At any rate, I think Weeden's days are basically numbered here. With the new regime, you're getting a new owner, president, GM, coaching staff, and more than likely, a new QB sooner or later. At this point, it's highly unlikely they are going to like Weeden enough to not bring in their own guy. It's just the way it is when you completely start the rebuilding process again.

With a billionaire owner.

WINNING

I don't think they are what the media thinks. They are not consumers of the product. Plus I don't think haslam is going to care about fans getting upset if it takes more then three years. He said they are trying to create a team that is a contender every year not a team that makes it one year.

Every successful business, company, team, person, anything is always asking themselves 2 questions : How can I be successful now & how can I be successful in the future?

The thing is, I can't really say they'd be wrong to want to bring in someone else. I like Weeden and I think he has the potential to be a decent NFL quarterback, but the same could be said for a dozen other guys who aren't rookies at thirty.

What I'm guessing their strategy will be (depending on who coaches) is to bring in a veteran QB now via a sign or a trade, and then draft a promising rookie sometime in the next three years in order to groom him for a future starting position.

I think he's willing to sacrifice now for the future.

John Idzik begins his sixth season with the Seahawks after joining the club on February 16, 2007. With Seattle, Idzik oversees player negotiations, the team’s compliance with the NFL salary cap, player personnel transactions, all football operations budgets, staff and team contracts, team travel and most aspects of the day-to-day football operations while also remaining active in player evaluations. In addition, he serves as the club’s primary liaison to the NFL Office and represents the club at League meetings.

Prior to joining the Seahawks, Idzik spent three seasons as Senior Director of Football Operations for the Arizona Cardinals, helping to build an eventual NFC champion. Idzik entered the NFL in 1993 with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He spent 11 years with the Buccaneers, first as a Pro Personnel Assistant and then was elevated to Director of Football Administration in 1996 and Assistant General Manager in 2001. Prior to his tenure with the Buccaneers, Idzik spent the 1991-92 seasons as a graduate assistant coach at Duke University, where he assisted with the offensive line and running backs. In 1990 he was the offensive backfield coach for the Aberdeen Oilers (Scotland) of the British American Football League. Idzik’s first coaching assignment came in 1982 as receivers coach at the State University of New York at Buffalo.

Raised in a football family, Idzik’s father, also John, was the head coach of the Aberdeen club after serving as an NFL assistant coach for the Miami Dolphins, Baltimore Colts, Philadelphia Eagles, and N.Y. Jets. They became one of the NFL’s few father-son Super Bowl champions in 2003 when the younger Idzik’s Buccaneers won Super Bowl XXXVII, as his father was the offensive backfield coach of the Super Bowl V champion Baltimore Colts.

A native of Detroit, Idzik graduated with magna cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa honors from Dartmouth College in 1982 earning a bachelor’s degree in mathematics, where he also played wide receiver for the Ivy League Champion Big Green. He later earned a master’s degree in liberal studies from Duke University in 1992.

Idzik and his wife, Carol (a University of Georgia graduate), have two sons, Bryant (a senior and captain of the Formula SAE racing team at Western Washington University) and Bradley (a sophomore wide receiver at Wake Forest University), and a daughter, Holly (a senior at Mercer Island High School).

I would be totally fine with him as our GM.

Browns need a football guy, someone who can run the draft well, not another cap guy... It's why I'm not a fan of Idzik unless the Browns somehow get someone else to fill that role, not named Lombardi...

Which is why I believe whomever they hire to be HC will have plenty of draft say...IMHO.

So lets look at the top 10 teams in the nfl. Who is the biggest influence on their drafting and roster? Coach or GM?

I am not sure the answer, i am thinking you could put this together.

At this point, everyone and anyone not named Lombardi is the goal. Listening to Grossi's interview today though, sounds like Lombardi is the only guy willing to take a watered down GM job the Browns are putting out there.

Either way, Banner + Lombardi = disaster.

Per Albert Breer:

@AlbertBreer: The Browns have asked the Niners for permission to interview Tom Gamble for their GM post. Gamble being pursued by NYJ, Jax and SD also.

Very impressive candidate.. Would be right at the top of my list...

He wasn't on MKCs initial list but its funny because I was just thinking Gamble could get an interview here if Kelly is hired...

Connect the dots a bit here:
- Kelly has no link to any GM candidates
- David Dunn represents Kelly and would likely help that search in finding candidates for the job Kelly is comfortable with...
- The only FO personnel Kelly represents is 49ers GM is Trent Baalke..
- Dunn also represents the 49ers Harbaugh...
- the only other HC he represents is Jason Garrett but the Cowboys FO doesnt have any GM candidates.. Afte Garrett he just reps a bunch of coordinators...
- so with all that, Gamble makes a lot of sense considering it is not only Dunn's client but Dunn has a good intel on the Niners FO and would probably recommend Gamble...

Now this could be a coincidence but Gamble being paired with Kelly makes a lot of sense if you look at the back story... Gamble and Kelly is about of a good of a pairing one could ask for... The question is whether Gamble would be willing to take a head personnel esque role here but Dunn convincing him could help..

Just throwing it out there but Gamble is an extremely good candidate...

Gamble and Kelly is a walk off grandslam.

So which 49'er guy is responsible for:

1 30 (30) Jenkins, A.J. WR

2 29 (61) James, LaMichael RB

4 22 (117) Looney, Joe G
(From Lions)
5 30 (165) Fleming, Darius OLB

6 10 (180) Robinson, Trent FS
(From Panthers)
6 29 (199) Slowey, Jason C

7 30 (237) Johnson, Cam DE

Yeah.. AJ Jenkins is definitely a head scratcher. To boot, the kid came into camp out of shape.
