Who is the Browns' General Manager for the 2013 off-season?

In breaking away from The OptOmist and his ridiculously stupid argument....

How good has Mitchell Schwartz been this season?

The Browns have allowed five sacks in their last five games, and look like one of the best young offensive lines in the NFL right now.

Not a coincidence that Weeden starts to show great improvement once the offensive line keeps him on his feet. He's much MUCH better when you give him a clean pocket (although he's shown himself to be willing to take hits in order to make throws), and we've been doing that lately. It's a shame Pinkston got ill, since he was really coming on strong as a pass blocker. If we can continue to keep those sacks down and open more holes for Trent, you could make a good case for a top 5 OL. If Heckert had another year to build up the DE rotation like he has with our DT's, we could have one of the most promising group of linemen on both sides of the ball in the league.

Definitely step one in getting any rookie to succeed is keeping him on his feet.

Weeden has been sacked twice in the last three games, and the tackles have been absolutely outstanding.

Great, so we have 1 win because of a pick. We also have way more losses because of picks. You don't spend a second rounder on a project.

You don't?

Don't tell that to the numerous project second round picks who have made a huge impact.

Brooks Reed comes to mind. Torrey Smith, Randall Cobb, Rob Gronkowski, Linval Joseph, Sean Smith.....That's just over the last couple years.

And...you know...Josh Gordon.

Better yet, take a look at Polian's track record of second round projects.

Ben Ijalana, Mike Pollack, Tony Ugoh. Nice projects.

Fact is, there's really no way you can ignore the fact that Heckert has added talent to this roster. No way possible.

Far more things than just talent are needed to translate into wins. For example:

Growth: We have a rookie starting QB, a rookie starting RB, a rookie starting WR, a rookie starting RT, a still developing D-Line, a very young inexperienced LB core (besides D'Qwell). There's some very important positiions in there in which we are young & inexperienced right now.

Coaching: We can all agree that this is a huge downfall. No matter how much talent you have (especially when it's very young talent), if your head coach can't coach, you're in trouble.

Injuries: Yes, a lame excuse, but you simply cannot deny the fact that injuries (and a stupid suspension) have played a hand in at least 1 or 2 of our losses, if not more. Gocong was a huge blow, as was Taylor. Yes, they are part of the game, but when you're a young, inexperienced, still developing team, you don't quite have the depth to replace guys like that yet. Luckily, Craig Robertson, Billy Winn, John Hughes, etc have stepped up huge at times. But they still can't replace what a Gocong or Taylor give you at this point.

Aren't all second-rounders, in some way or another, considered "projects?" That's why they weren't sure-fire first round picks.

I've said it before and I'll say it again: the username "Optomist" is the biggest oxymoron on this forum.

Maybe you haven't met "highbballIQ", but he's give the optimist a run for his money.

All those guys are on playoff teams. With the exception of the Dolphins, who in 2008 were a playoff team. Thus the 2009 draft, they could afford to take a project.

And...you know...Josh Gordon.

I wasn't referring to Josh Gordon. Most analysts and scouts were saying he'd be a 1st next year if he'd stayed in school. I was talking about Greg Little. Thanks for playing though.

Lets take a look at Polians superbowl ring:

Oh Heckert doesn't have one... my bad.

Polians 3 years in Carolina:

Lead Carolina to NFC Championship

Heckert's three years:

2 games away from the Ravens.

Aren't all second-rounders, in some way or another, considered "projects?" That's why they weren't sure-fire first round picks.

Then what are third - seventh rounders? Like I said you can pick a project, like Greg Little. When you can afford to do so.

I don't see how wanting Polian over Heckert with a new regime in place is being a pessimist. If I see a spade, I'll call it a spade. I don't sugar coat things.

I'm sorry, that I predicted the Indians tanking. He will go on to say he said the same thing when in reality, he jumped on that bandwagon late. And b00bie is still clamoring about how it's the fans should have went to the games. I'm sorry, that Braylon Edwards sucks and has always dropped the ball. b00bie here however loves him and thinks he's great.

^ Pulling the "he has a super bowl ring" card isn't as much a good argument as it is an indictment against your ability to read between the lines. If you want to just re-post that ring and prove my point, that'd be even better.

Sorry, but the only thing that matters at the end of the day is a ring.

Maybe you're OK with losing, but I'm not. I want a freaking parade in Cleveland. Maybe you're satisfied with the poop sandwiches the factory of sadness is producing week in and week out on their production line. Well, I'm not! I'm tired of losing and the poop sandwiches this regime (HHS) has put on the field.

Oh, absolutely. I was grazing through his picks and mock drafts and such and came away unimpressed.

It doesn't matter, though. As Optomist has illustrated, it takes one good pick atop the draft to make yourself a legendary GM.

JESUS CHRIST I CAN'T TAKE THE IGNORANCE ANYMORE.

Look at this roster when Polian came to the Colts in 1998. LOOK AT IT.

NOW, LOOK AT THIS ROSTER THAT HECKERT HAD IN 2010.

The Colts didn't win a Super Bowl until 2006. They were 3-13 the two years after drafting their franchise QB. There's no possible way you actually believe the bullshit you constantly post.

Why did Polian get rid of Faulk? Edgerinn was good but Manning, Harrison, Wayne, and Faulk could have been a lethal offense

contractual reasons. Faulk was holding out for a new contract, Polian didn't want to deal with it, especially with Ricky Williams and Edgerrin James in the upcoming draft.
