I think you start lebron at the 4 jones at the 3. Marion spells both. Shump starts these two games and miller and Harris make up the difference?

The NBA Playoffs

Each team that qualifies for the NBA Playoffs must submit a list of its players eligible to compete in playoff games on the day following the end of the regular season.

Because there is no Injured List for the NBA Playoffs, each playoff team must designate the 12 players eligible for the playoffs from all of its regular season lists (Active, Injured and Suspended).
Cavs have had 11 guys on the floor & Miller has dressed for games.

That means to me that Varejao, Haywood, & Harris are not eligible to play in the playoffs.
This is the old rule, new rule is just like the regular season. 15 players with 2 being inactive.

Wiki:
Playoff teams must identify their postseason roster before the playoffs begin. They are allowed up to 15 players and can designate two as inactive for each game.[9] Players are eligible to be on a team's playoff roster provided they were on the team for at least one regular season game, and were not on another NBA team's roster after March 1.[10] Previously, playoff rosters were limited to 12 players who were named before the playoffs began.[9]

The good news for the Cavs:
  1. Shumpert can play a lot of minutes
  2. Dellavedova does not have to matchup against Isaiah Thomas anymore
  3. You don't need to get rebounds when you make the shot, and James Jones makes a lot of shots
  4. Shawn Marion should be able to put together 3-4 weeks of good play like he did in November

The Matrix is going to be the guy. One last hurrah before he rides into the sunset

You know what, I've been thinking just that. I think he's got just a little left in the tank to give us. I mean this is fucking IT for him. He'd play like its the last minutes of his career... because they are the last minutes of his career.

So Blatt better put the guy in and give him a chance. Its not like there are much better options out there. Wish Miller still looked like the Miller from last year. That would be a real game-changer.

Are the Cavs allowed to sign someone else now?

I mean this is it for Marion.

He is retiring. So I'd expect him to give it everything he has.

No, the playoff roster is set well before the first playoff game. I don't think it can get changed after the playoffs start.

Jones is already in the rotation, so I see Miller and Marion as the guys (playoff vets) getting more burn. I see minutes for all 3 of Bron, Jones, and Marion at the 4 (along with TT of course).

What if we don't have 5 guys on the roster after this round? :chuckle:

So that means Andy COULD come back. :) he is listed on the RealGM Cavaliers playoff roster, assuming it's accurate... and so is Joe harris.

I like Marion starting at PF (moving James over to PF when Tristan comes in). The idea here is to avoid having James play 40+ minutes at PF.

I'd start Shumpert and amp up his minutes as high as he can go.

Delly, Jones, and Miller can cleanup whatever else needs to be filled.

And of course we'll see an obligatory 4 minutes of Perkins.

Call me weird, I just got this feeling Marion is going to play above average smothering defense and there is going to be a game or two when ESPN and NBAtv do the highlights that then go "and then Marion came in...,". I think he is going to have a key key defensive stops the rest of the way.

Wish I could vote twice because while I would love nothing more than to see Miller get a rhythm on the offensive end, James Jones is going to average like 8 points sprinkled with a few 15-20 pointers in there. Mark my words.

Well, this is why we signed vets. Marion, Miller, Jones, Perkins. Tested veterans tend surprise in the playoffs. If they have anything to give us, we'll see it.

I'm thinking/hoping Marion and Miller are going to have different look in their eyes when they get time on the court.

Marion. Shaun Marion.

This is the dude that makes the most sense.
Marion has no outside shot, which means that teams will just ignore him and if he hits from outside they will live with the results. He might find his touch, but he's looked real lost offensively. Imagine how much easier it will be to defend LeBron and Kyrie if you can set up a defense that doesn't need to defend Marion on the perimeter. James Jones seems the most prepared to play heavy minutes and step into the role. I'm kind of intrigued with the idea of using Mike Miller though. If Miller could hit one of his first 2 or 3 3-point attempts, the coach will have to get someone up on him. He's not a terrible rebounder or passer, and the opposing teams would have to at least fear that he might turn back time and go off for 6 or 7 threes.

I think Delly will see a lot of minutes, too, because Blatt loves him and he knows what he will get from Delly, which may be comforting. Delly can hit the 3 and play passable defense, and he does a pretty good job with turnovers. He's also been in a pretty good rhythm with the big men as far as throwing lobs.

My guess is that Blatt will sort of fill the minutes by committee, at least to start. He's got 2 guys out so thats a lot of minutes where he can assess who seems to be up for the challenge.

Exactly, we're going to have to play Jones. Wanting him to guard guys like Mirotic or even Gibson is a nightmare.

I think he should start, you can hide his defense on Noah. It's the only thing that makes sense for me.

Gibson is the guy to worry about. He's the kind of that will make LeBron work in the post and destroy a James Jones. Hopefully Thibs depends on the rookie instead.
