Windhorst Radio Show & Updates

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Pretty sure Windy was just pissed Curry's daughter was eating the Animal Crackers he had his heart set on.

Windhorst was the one that complained that Curry brought his daughter to one press conference. He really has jumped the shark which is sad to me because at one time he was the best.

Alright Chris Parker, don't let us down now, our belief in the media lies in your hands....literally.

I think Carroll played more minutes than anybody on the Hawks tonight. Wasn't 100 percent but he gutted it out.

Two short shows today:

http://espn.go.com/espnradio/play?id=12931091

Doesn’t see how Demarre can play tonight. He dodged a bullet. He’s due a big contract this offseason. It’s his first and last chance for a big payday. He almost lost that two days ago. Doesn’t seem responsible for him and his family if he plays right now.

If Kyrie doesn’t play, it’s because he’s not healthy enough to play. Just had 6 days off. 3 more days doesn’t seem like it is going to help. He’s probably going to be dragging a leg for the rest of the playoffs.

Goldenstate is the healthiest team in the playoffs right now and it looks like it is their year.

Q: Is Lebron’s legacy that he could not get his team mates to be healthy?

It is frustrating that Kyrie had the time off, thought he was pain free, and then had a set-back. Amazing that Cavs won game 1. Lebron has 21 consecutive series with a road win. It is impressive because only Jordan has more. Says a lot about confidence and the ability to handle stress. That’s Lebron’s legacy in Brian’s opinion.

Brian’s CYA time because of his negative comments about putting kids on the playoff podium. Says it makes it difficult to be a professional journalist. These days media is covered by other media like they are players.

I listened to the Hey Windy show yesterday [Friday, May 22, 2015] but did not take notes. Here's the link:

http://stationcaster.com/player_skinned.php?s=70&c=18273&f=4409433

Here's the stuff I recall off the top of my head:

* Gave credit to Cavs role players, including Delly

* Talked about LeBron winning a road game in 21 straight series, which is second only to Jordan who won one in 24 straight series

* Was asked by Gibbs (host) if LeBron or Blatt should get the credit/more credit, and went on a long talk basically giving LeBron the credit

* Did say Blatt deserved credit

* Says he believes Cavs will re-sign JR Smith

That's about it. I don't remember a ton of other stuff. Also he did predict the Cavs would win Game 2 (as they did).

* Cavs fans didn't even know when the lottery was this year, and the last couple of years it was the most important day of the year. Take a moment to reflect on how far this team has come

* lottery day is the biggest dichotomy of the whole year. The dregs of the league in a ballroom praying for a good lottery pick, then the same day you have the conference finals. The TV switches from the dregs to the main event that day. It's unheard of for the Cavs to go from worst to almost first in one year.

* Since Kyrie went down, he's had some people say that this year reminds them of 2007.

* Windy couldn't disagree more. The role players this year are terrific and making big contributions, they are better than the 2007 supporting cast.

* Shump has raised his game to levels he never thought he would see.

* Cavs 5-1 on the road in the playoffs [6-1 after tonight!] Sure, the Eastern Conference blows but that's still fantastic and really impressive

* Game 1 the Hawks shot 57% in the first half, the crowd is going nuts, and the Cavs go into halftime tied. Such resilience. Enjoy this team.

* He always thought that guys like James Jones had one good playoff game in him, he has delivered that and more

* Gibbs asks how much of that resilience is coaching and adjustments and how much is Lebron James

* Lebron is a big part. Lebron is not intimidated by any of these situations, he has seen it all. Lebron has played in over 40 conference finals games. He can stop other teams runs by just taking over and getting a basket. He is why we were tied at halftime in Game 1

* Lebron has now won a road playoff game in 21 playoff series in a row, which is incredible. You can feel that experience and steadiness with him. He can calm a team and you saw that in Game 1

* What is he worried about? Windy is concerned about how Cavs offensive system has eroded, you saw this in the second half of Game 1 -- too much Lebron ISO, it was a two man show with Lebron dribbling ISO and JR hitting impossible shots.

* Sportvu data -- in Game 1 the Cavs had 92 possessions overall, 32 out of those 92 possessions it was an ISO situation, mostly Lebron, 35% of their possessions were ISO. THAT IS THE HIGHEST PERCENTAGE OF ISO PLAY IN ANY GAME IN THE ENTIRE NBA SEASON OR PLAYOFFS THIS YEAR

* During 3 stretches in the second half Lebron ISO'd for 3 straight possessions. At least a quarter of the time Lebron got the ball he abandoned the offense, backed it out, and dribbled away the clock in ISO

* Lebron actually did pretty well on those ISOs, he made 8 shots on 18 ISO possessions

* After the game both Blatt and Lebron took blame for this. Blatt said his offense wasn't creative enough, Lebron said he can't play that way

* Golden State will be in the finals - they haven't lost 4 out of 5 games for 16 months. They will eat you alive if you play like this

* As great as Lebron is he has to be a better leader on this. Blatt can call whatever play he wants but Lebron is in control, and he has to get this tendency under control

* Sometimes ISO makes sense, P&R can make it easier to double team. But not 35% of your possessions.

* Who will rescue us from Lebron ISO? Will it be JR Smith again?

* During the season what happened is that early in the year Blatt tried to install Princeton and it didn't take, but then later in the year they switched to a lot of my turn-your turn with Kyrie

* without Kyrie that isn't happening

* the antidote to all this is putting Lebron in the post, force the action from the inside out. Then you can run other action on the outside. Lebron in the blocks, in shooting position immediately, easier to get fouls. This is very straightforward

* But it requires Lebron to have the faith to let someone else bring the ball up.

* Can't believe Demarre Carroll would play tonight. His knee will be swollen and unstable. His agent has to stop him from playing. [He was wrong about this!]

* Now the Hawks are paying the price for not having Thabo Sefalosha. They will try to guard Lebron with Bazemore, who won't be able to handle Lebron, they will switch to Millsap, who also cannot keep up with him, Lebron will dominate tonight.

* Question: Where do we stand with Kyrie? Should they rest him this series to hope he can recover for the finals?

* Windy -- it is incredible the Cavs are doing so well with Kyrie as a shell of himself.

* Cavs still have to try to play Kyrie, you cannot risk losing even one extra game in the playoffs, isn't sure that resting Kyrie will make any difference anyway.

* Kyrie needs the entire summer off, he won't get that in the playoffs

* Believes Kyrie has some good games left in him, like the Bulls game

* Saw Kyrie in the hotel Thursday and he was limping.

* Kyrie still contributes when he is on the court, even injured

* JR was hilarious yesterday -- he explained that he didn't like to be open when he shoots, it's more fun to be covered

* this encapsulates JR Smith -- he does not like to be bored, stuff has to be fun

* JR has played 60 playoff games in his life and Game 1 was his best ever, so hard to say whether it will get repeated.

* You can't count on JR but he is a huge bonus when he blows up. You want him to be a bonus not the guy you rely on.

* Claims that JR did not play any better for Cavs than Knicks and he has not changed at all [This is BS his TS% was 56.5 with the Knicks and 48.7 with the Knicks, his steals are up, turnovers are down -- he is playing much better for us, don't know what Windy is talking about]

* He will re-sign with the Cavs, Windy thinks on a two year deal

* Lebron James 2010 elbow against Boston in the playoffs -- Lebron talked a little about it, this is the most Windy has ever heard him talk about it

* Lebron was talking about the most frustrating injuries he has ever had, he said that the elbow problem against Boston in the playoffs was the most frustrating injury experience he ever had in his whole career, he brought this up spontaneously

* re Lebron's ankle injury -- he remembers someone once asked Larry Hughes about a Lebron ankle injury, Hughes said 'hey have you see Lebron's ankle'? Lebron's ankle is probably as thick as Larry Hughes' neck.

* predicts Lebron goes off tonight in a big way and Cavs win [he was right about this]

This is factual so I have no problem with Windy bringing it up. LeBron basically called himself out, promised t not play that same way in game 2, and delivered on that promise tonight.

But given all that, I was shocked to hear on the broadcast tonight that the Cavs actually had more total passes made in Game 1 than the Hawks. Anyone else catch that?

Definitely caught that. And actually, this was posted on twitter the day after Game 1:

Thank you. That's a huge difference in true shooting, and his non-shooting stats are better pretty much across the board. All advanced stats show there has been a huge improvement. Very poor use of statistics by Windhorst here. Not the first time he has made this claim and I am amazed he actually believes it.

Also, Windhorst repeated the claim that Smith will shoot you out of a game as often as win you a game with his shooting. There were games this season for the Cavs when he didn't shoot well and shot too much, but I can't recall a game when he shot the Cavs to a loss. Someone correct me if I am wrong here.

guess Windy got on the Really Big Show and said Warriors have 78% chance to win series based on BPI analytics. The other guys on the show weren't buying it.

I found another article which seems to put the BPI % at 72% which seems more reasonable.

http://espn.go.com/nba/story/_/id/1...say-odds-finals-matchup-cavaliers-vs-warriors

Oh this article was from March so i guess the values probably changed. Wow how can the Cavs only have a 22% chance?! Seems like our offensive rating and defensive rating must be near the top?!

Thank you i was just trying to remember that guy's name i had seen him posting that stuff on Twitter. Thanks much. So windy got the %age wrong! Not good windy . But hell even 72 % sounds horrible.

Honestly the thing about Golden State that scares me the most is the home court advantage in 4 of the 7 games and the fact that their crowd gets so loud.

It's just the nature of playing a better team without HC. The Warriors are 46-3 at home this season (.939).

When you win 94% of your home games and 4 of the 7 are at home, your expected win % in a series is going to be insanely high.

The bpi was supposed to be updated weekly and posted on espn. It failed miserably so they canned it.

I think it's still good

However, they don't adjust for playoffs, let alone weighting the second half of the season. The numbers at just fucking off and are putting the Cavs without jr and jump and moz *.5, without lbj *.1, throwing games against Boston etc, against the warriors.

At ABSOLUTE FUCKING WORSE we are 28% dogs. Someone can go ahead and adjust for trades and playoffs

Hey Windy --- 05.29.15
http://stationcaster.com/stations/w...and_Windhorst_and_Jason_Gibbs_-1432906422.mp3

01. This show is dedicated to Matthew Dellavedova, the little Aussie who could.

02. Delly is symbolic of the Cavs season. Looked ugly for awhile, but they made it.

03. People get endeared to players in the playoffs. (Delly)

04. You have to give Delly credit. He's been incredible this postseason.

05. Delly is such a grinder.

06. The Cavs whitewashed the Hawks.

07. LeBron had no fear of the Hawks. You could tell it by how he played.

08. LeBron was just messing with the Hawks.

09. JR Smith had double-doubles in the last 2 games against the Hawks.

10. (Revisiting JR Smith previous playoff failures)

11. Shumpert likely thinking about a contract worth $40-45 million. I'd have a hard time arguing with him about that.

12. LeBron is going to 5 straight Finals. This has not been done since the 1960's.

13. LeBron going to 5 straight Finals with two different teams is even more impressive. Because the Cavs jumped over the learning curve so fast.

14. LeBron going to 5 straight Finals is a big feather in the cap of his resume.

15. If Cavs lose this Finals, there will be those who target LeBron's legacy with "2-4" and such. That is all BS.

16. I know the stats of LeBron only beating however many 50-win teams in the playoffs. Doesn't matter.

17. The "Kobe faction" will try to argue against LeBron. Don't listen to it.

18. LeBron has owned the East for years. Making 5 straight Finals is a "supreme" achievement that will go on his Hall Of Fame plaque or career achievement list.

19. Cavs took last 2 days off. Now back at practice today.

20. I was surprised that the Hawks weren't more of a challenge.

21. I thought that the Cavs were going to beat Atlanta in 5 or 6 games.

22. I know someone who played in Delly's conference when Delly was in college.

23. Delly was a superstar in the West Coast Conference in college. The "Dwyane Wade" of the conference.

24. The player I texted with who was in same conference as Delly in college said Delly is just feisty, and some confuse this with dirty. Delly is not a dirty player.

25. It is "absolutely ridiculous" to call the Korver-Delly play dirty.

26. LeBron felt he could do whatever he wanted against the Hawks. That will not be the case against the Warriors.

27. This is the easiest Conference Finals LeBron ever played in, I think.

28. Tweeter: Is this team less an underdog than the 2007 Finals team?

29. Windy: Yes, absolutely they are less an underdog than the 2007 team.

30. Honestly, the West playoffs ended up being easy for the Warriors. They missed out against the Spurs and Clippers, who matched up well with the Warriors.

31. Tony Allen and Mike Conley were banged up when Warriors played Memphis, also.

32. Team in 2007 had no chance in the Finals, especially with Larry Hughes injury.

33. This Cavs team has a "fighting chance" to beat the Warriors. The 2007 team had no chance to win the Finals.

34. [First show break]

35. Tweeter: Any Irving, Curry, Thompson, LeBron injury updates?

36. Windy: Thompson will have to go through the concussion protocol. He is the biggest question mark.

37. Windy: Curry has banged up his right elbow a bit from the fall where he hit his head.

38. Windy: Kyrie played well in his last game. But he did not look so explosive. But good he could fall down and trust he's ok.

39. Blatt and LeBron were both basically putting the pressure on Kyrie to play and gut it out. This was done in "code", kind of questioning his toughness.

40. I'm not going to criticize a player because it's not my knee. Don't know how he's feeling.

41. I think part of Kyrie's injury was a mental factor. So it's good he's back to kind of know he can push through it.

42. The Cavs will need to be able to score against the Warriors (so Kyrie important).

43. Windy: LeBron has some aches and pains.

44. I think LeBron will be fine.

45. The layoff is not a big deal. Media needs things to talk about so they'll bring it up. Ignore that.

46. Some days in practice recently Kyrie looked great, other days he was watching the practice in flip flops. So hard to predict how he'll feel for Game 1.

47. Kyrie will have to fight through body issues because Cavs need him.

48. Key with Kyrie is can he accelerate on the drive or does he have to sit out on the perimeter against the Warriors?

49. Kyrie is one of the best shooters in the league.

50. I think Curry is better off the dribble to free himself for perimeter shots than Kyrie is.

51. Kyrie is better at creating space for himself off the dribble to get drives than Curry is.

52. What makes Kyrie so good is he can both shoot and drive, and if you play him for one or the other he'll burn you with what you give him.

53. For Kyrie to really be dangerous, he has to be able to both drive and shoot.

54. Tweeter: Where will Cavs hide Kyrie if he can't guard Curry?

55. Windy: There is no place to hide him. Which is why playing the Warriors is different than anyone the Cavs have played in the playoffs until this point.

56. Klay Thompson is a great catch-and-shoot shooter.

57. Curry is pretty tall and long. Likely taller than Kyrie.

58. You want a long defender on Curry to affect his shots, but need someone who can handle Curry's dribble game as well. Kyrie is questionable with this.

59. Livingston is very long and can take Kyrie to the post.

60. What you hope is that Kyrie is doing so much offensively that it negates any defensive weakness he has on the other end against the Warriors.

61. Cavs will give up points against the Warriors.

62. Cavs will feel the loss of Love in this series, because of his offense.

63. Tim Kawakami is super plugged in as a Warriors reporter for San Jose Mercury News.

64. Kawakami said that Cavs more worried about how to slow down Curry than the Warriors are worried about how to slow down LeBron.

65. Windy: I think that's right. Warriors have personnel to throw at LeBron. Cavs not as much to throw at Curry.

66. Curry is essentially "uncoverable" right now. Really no one can stop him.

67. Curry one of the best shooters and dribblers of all time. In his prime. Super fast release.

68. LeBron can affect the game more than Curry can, but LeBron needs his teammates to come through to be at his best. Curry can dominate without even making a pass to his teammates.

69. [Second show break]

70. Caller: Don't Cavs have to attack Warriors down low? With Thompson and Mozgov pick and roll action?

71. Windy: Cavs must use the pick and roll action to attack Bogut. Cavs are devastating on the offensive glass. I assume they will do this against Warriors as well. Warriors will try to make Cavs play small, I think.

72. At times, Warriors will use Green as their center.

73. Cavs can devastate Warriors with lobs and offensive rebounds.

74. I think Warriors will work on tracking Tristan Thomspon to keep down his offensive rebounds.

75. Hawks double teamed Thompson to hold down his offensive rebounds, and Thompson still kick their behinds with them.

76. Tweeter: How can Mozgov get more minutes, especially in the 4th?

77. Windy: What's the problem? Cavs are 12-2 in the playoffs. Things are working.

78. To defend the Warriors, you will be better off with just one big on the floor rather than two.

79. Cavs likely to score enough in the series to win. The key is can they defend well enough to win the games?

80. Games likely in the high 90's or low 100's. Cavs want high 90's. This is the key. So it's about defense.

81. I have no problem with Blatt's rotations. Tristan is more versatile on defense than Mozgov?

82. Tweeter: Who will Warriors use on LeBron?

83. Windy: Green. He's second best perimeter defender in the league behind Kawhi Leonard.

84. Green wanted to guard LeBron when Green was a rookie. He likes the challenge.

85. Warriors beat LeBron's Heat in Miami and Green did great in the game.

86. LeBron is stronger than Green. He can handle Green.

87. For LeBron, try to get fouls on Green.

88. Every possession LeBron gets without Green guarding him is a win for the Cavs.

89. [Third show break]

90. Tweeter: Why is everyone anti-Cleveland across the country?

91. Windy: Because it's fun.

92. Warriors more popular across America than in the Bay Area. Baseball's Giants are more important in the Bay Area than the Warriors are.

93. People love Steph Curry, and people love Riley Curry (interesting coming from Windhorst, but I agree).

94. The casual viewer is very interested in the Warriors.

95. Fans love the 3 point shot now. It used to be the dunk, now it's the 3 point shot.

96. Warriors are new, and casual fans like that.

97. LeBron hate is down. Less hated now than when he was with Miami.

98. I think the feeling is more pro-Warriors than anti-Cavs.

99. When LeBron was with Miami, ratings showed that when Heat were losing games, ratings were up. And when they were winning games, ratings were down.

100. I think ratings for the series will be great.

101. Clevelanders are used to being the underdog. Nothing new there, and they can embrace it.

102. Warriors are the better team. They have better supporting cast.

103. I voted for Steve Kerr for Coach Of The Year.

104. Warriors this year have one of the best home records in NBA history.

105. Warriors did not play at their highest level against the Rockets.

106. If Warriors play at their highest level, they will beat the Cavs. So Cavs have to hope the Warriors don't play at their best level.

107. Warriors have been very healthy.

108. Feeling is Maurice Speights will be ready for Game 1. So Warriors like 100% healthy for the Finals.

109. David Lee can't even get on the floor for the Warriors. Shows how deep they are.

110. Warriors are a juggernaut opponent. Will be a hard series. Supposed to be hard.

111. The way LeBron is playing right now, I can't put anything past him. Cavs have a fighting chance.

112. Tweeter: Will we see Hack A Tristan?

113. Windy: Tristan can beat it, he's not as bad as Dwight Howard on free throws.

114. Tweeter: Who is the X-factor?

115. Windy: Dellavedova (joking here). I don't know.

116. Tweeter: Any chance Andy Varejao active for Finals?

117. Windy: I've been told if Cavs suffer a freak injury then Andy could be active.

118. NON BOLD PREDICTION: The series will be tied 1-1 when we come back from the Bay Area for Game 3 in Cleveland.

Cavs will be most effective when LBJ posts up Green. Either he'll score at a pretty good PPP, or GS will have to double him. That's when outside shooting and TT/Moz cutting to the basket as the help man comes over will be huge.

GS is pretty long/quick on the perimeter, which will shrink the passing lanes down and make it more difficult to pass effectively out of that double team. But if anyone can do it, it'll be LBJ. Also be a big help if we can figure out a way to punish GS for trying to have Barnes guard TT.
