Windy Interview on leaving for ESPN

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
It's one thing to leave to write the NBA beat for ESPN...but to leave to do something called the "Heat Index" is a little sad. Is he going to be Lebron's lifetime biographer or something?

He really needs to move out from under the shadow of Lebron at some point and write about something not Lebron.

Good for him though. Hope this is a good move for his career. Best basketball beat writer in the biz IMO.

How does a guy turn down the fricken NY Times to be Lebron's gentleman's gentleman. Cant figure that out.

Easy. Windhorst is an NBA writer. The party is in Miami and will be for the next 6 years. I'm going to the party if I'm him.

At least we have Joe Tait for one more year.

I personally can't see why people are made at Windhorst for opening avenues to help his career. If this 'heat index' does not go exactly the way ESPN thinks its going to go, I see Windy contributing for their ESPN NBA section similar to that of Broussard does. ESPN is a target goal for any sports journalist because that is where the money and stability is and for Windy to get there congrats to him.

Oh well fuck em', maybe its a shitty attitude to have but thats how i feel at this point. I have respect for his writing, i think he is good at what he does. But with what has happened over these past few months, anyone who wants to leave can go fuck themselves. I'm not in no kind of mood to wish anyone luck or anything like that. Anything related to Lebron irks me, i'll only watch the Heat when they play the Cavs. Loved Z as a Cavs player, have a lot of respect for what he has been through and the career he had with us. But now that he is a Heat, no good lucks coming from my way. Same for Windy, good career move though.

Ask yourself this.... If Windy would have left last year for ESPN would as many people be upset? I think some people are over re-acting because of the summers events... but I cant fault everyone 100% for feeling that way...the wounds are still raw.

Im taking the same approach DJG. You're either with us, or you're against us. Fuck the enemies. WE, ALL WE GOT !

Nice career move no doubt about it but its still slapping us in the face.

He would have been better off writing a book exposing LeBron for who he is. Instead we went 11 years without finding out the real James. I was fooled for 11 years because this asshole gave half truths of information. He obviously couldn't pass up this meal ticket which obviously from the looks of it, doesn't need.

Writers are a dime a dozen, and he just proved it.

It won't matter how good of a writer he was here. He will be writing ESPIN articles for their Heat Index. They didn't hire him for his abilities, they hired him for his connection. Not sure why he can't just admit that to himself and stop trying to act like he's actually there to write informative articles about the Heat. :chuckles:

Why are people acting like Windy is an actual player on the Cavs?? He's a writer.. You take the best possible position with the most pay, he'd be stupid to stay at the PD if ESPN and all these other national places were offering him big money for his services (which I'm guessing most did), and he took the right job..

I don't blame him one bit, but I hope he doesn't think for a second that he will be an independent voice. His articles may criticize James and the Heat at times, but it will be within a very specific framework. He's going to live and breath a corporatist culture, and he will become a corporate writer. In short, his articles are going to be boring as sh*t.

P.S. - while he was a good beat reporter, I don't think he's irreplaceable. He had great connections and abided by solid journalistic standards, but beyond that he wasn't out of the ordinary

Hey I agree with you. I think Brian is doing what's best for him and I'm not judging him for that. I'm merely saying all the "We'll miss you Wizard of Beat Writer" posts are kind of going overboard considering he left out some of the NBA's most significant information in the modern era. The NBA will never be the same after this, we can already see it changing face with what may or may not happen with Melo.

Windy brings up Shaq's relationship with Delonte but never touched what LeBron thought of Delonte. What's that about? It's pretty obvious now. There so many holes in this whole debacle that the one guy who knew the inside story, is now on the super team. He is now the same brand as ESPN. Essentially this sweeps everything under the rug for good. I for one, am pretty disappointed.
