For what it is worth Hollinger seems to think we should have gotten 2 picks for the package we gave up.

Except the other pick would have been a 2nd and we have more 2nds than we know what to do with.

Hollinger didn't understand the Cavs situation as well as the average poster on RCF. National media guys rarely do.

No he said we should have gotten both 1's that were available and there were posters here that were asking for the 2 1's just for sessions before Walton was included in the deal. We really didnt get anything of value for taking on their trash. I am inclined to think that Hollinger was right.

On the other hand still dont understand why we gave up the 2 1's in the Danny Ferry Ron harper deal. To this day that deal makes no sense to me.

Wrong thread but I am getting a man crush on the idea of getting Tony Wroten in the late first. He is a 6'6 athletic combo guard. He doesnt shoot well from deep, but does almost everything else well. His ability to drive, defend, rebound, finish at the rim, etc would work perfect next to Kyrie.

when you look how deep this draft supposedly is talent wise our late first from the Lakers can be construed as a mid first any other year

thinking we could have gotten TWO picks for Sessions is absurd

the lakers knew no one picking above them was gonna give up their first for Sessions alone ESPECIALLY not knowing he might bolt after seasons end. given the nature of sports agents and professional athletes

I see the trade as the lakers GM saving face by unloading Luke knowing Gilbert has given up salary in the past (Wally, Big Ben, Sessions, etc) to give us the pick we should have got straight up anyway

also knowing he has one of the most stubborn coaches in Mike Brown when it comes to rotations . . . yeah lets acquire someone who can runs circle around Steve Blake but keep him on the bench . . . .and given Mike Brown's known offensive ineptness make any pick from the Lakers look good

Yep, and there were posters that dismissed the possibility of getting even one first for him before the trade. You are also missing the fact that Hollinger wrote his opinion based on the misconception that we were giving LA the option to trade picks. Not the other way around. That option does clearly have value. The exact value won't be known until next year plays out.

Argument? I have already stated my opinions, he stated his OPINION. No sense on stating the same thing over and over and over.

We do not agree. That is life.

And I don't even want to get in the Dan Gilbert is a God issue again---you guys can believe what you want, I will believe what I want. Simple, right?

DAN GILBERT SPENDING MONEY HAS NOT AFFECTED MY OPINION THAT DAN GILBERT WILL NOT SPEND MONEY.

Oh wow. I hadn't looked in this thread in awhile. I didn't know this was an argument anymore. The only thing I ever had a problem with was when I thought the Lakers had the right to swap. This is really just like converting one asset in to another. Later we may prefer to have the player instead of the pick, but your needs change depending on where the team is.

Still never understood the "better deal" type of talk. There was no better deal, Grant would not have turned it down. In fact how much do you want to bet they asked for Gee too? I would have. I am sure we took on Luke not to include something better. To me, the pick swap tells me that Grant is very savvy and tries to squeeze as much blood from the onion as possible. If we move up 1 spot, it was a great move. If something crazy happens and we move 10, the dude is a genius. Grant has to make a pretty bad move now for me to criticize him.

Mike Brown hate is pretty unwarranted....its pretty typical to have a new player come off the bench a bit even if hes the superior player. Not to mention, the second unit needs more help than the first, and that Ramon has progressively been getting more minutes and Blake less minutes....hell last game Blake played bench minutes and Ramon played starters minutes.

Arguing with Avon over Sessions or Dan Gilbert will only result in frustration. I learned that last year and have since moved on from him, I'd suggest others do the same as well. I'm sure Avon is still pissed because of what EVIL DAN GILBERT did to his company.

I'm glad Sessions is gone. Whatever he provided in offensive explosiveness, was negated by the fact that he plays defense at a middle school level. Backup PG's are a dime a dozen *see: Sloan* and we managed to get a first round pick for ours. We also managed to get it because Dan Gilbert was willing to pay at least twice the open market value to get one.

yes, it became pretty obvious long ago that avon would talk himself into circles just to argue against anything dan gilbert did.

the market value is capped for buying such picks, and you have to actually find a willing seller to even get in the mix, which, if you followed this thread with the brilliance of avon and bob, you realize that the frequency of such sales is rare. so, dan gilbert payed twice the cost to ensure he could get an asset that he had no guarantee of getting should the off chance happen that one hit the market.

Once you accept the fact that ESPN has an agenda, and that agenda works in diametric opposite of the agenda of a Cleveland sports fan, you will begin to relax a little bit.

I was surprised when Hollinger was so misinformed about the trade yet still writing his opinions. I had the day off from work the next morning and watched ESPN's coverage of the trade deadline... and the next day they still failed to report all of the assets Los Angeles gave up for Sessions.

ESPN is out for ratings. The more people watching the NBA, the more money they get. By inflating the egos of Laker fans in this trade by misinformation, they get what they want. The population of Southern California dwarfs the population of Northern Ohio, so they let the big city seem like a winner. Who is going to call them out on it? Is there another option for sports television?

Luckily, ESPN doesn't ge tto pick who actually wins games. Two or three years down the line, the Cavs will have a great young core and the Lakers will be limping into a rebuild. That is when CAvs fans get to say who won the trade... but Hollinger doesn't have the stones to write that article.

Lakers are about to take a few shots at another title with Sessions helping them. That sounds good to me. The Cavs would love to be in that position one day.

I'm not saying anyone lost but, that I wouldn't compare the relative health of those two franchises and come out saying Cleveland looks better even for the future. LA is always gonna attract top level talent.

You can attract the top whatever you want, but with Kobe eating 30 million dollars a year it's not going to matter as they will not have cap space.
