I love the PS4 controller.

Light-weight, has nice grip on the back, love the concave thumb sticks, feels a little smaller than its predecessor.

Not to be too nit picky, but BB is February 5th, and DI2 is set for Spring.

That's why I said next half a year, with the exception of Uncharted the next few months are super packed for me.

November in particular is dear. At least 3 games... What a relief after the summer drought. I went a month easily without turning on my ps4...

So I'm going to pick up the Xbox One soon. I'm also planning on picking up a new HDTV as well in the 40-46" range.

Anyone have any recommendations on the most appropriate TV for Xbox gaming and Blu Ray watching? There's a pretty great deal going on down here for a Soniq TV 48" for $399 but the thing is only 50Hz. From what I understand, gaming needs at least 100Hz minimum?

Any ideas?

It really depends on the games. If you are mostly going to be playing single player rpg games, sports, etc, then input lag is not important at all. If you are planning on playing cod, battlefield, other shooters, or games that rely on fast inputs then input lag is pretty important.

Input lag database is dedicated to testing tvs. A quick google search of best tvs for video games, and then cross reference with the input database, and you can get yourself a good tv for whichever type of games you enjoy.

Might I also recommend that when anyone gets a new tv, at least for gaming you turn off all the extra stuff that increases input lag. When you are doing that, you can buy a blu ray guide to help you set up your tv to optimal settings, or you can eyeball it using an internet guide.

There is no reason in this day and age that you can't have a low input lag tv and a good quality picture.

Thanks Mdog, that's really helpful. Well as far as my gaming experience goes, I mainly play RPGs and sports games. I'm not into shooters and actually don't really play online either. It'll be used for Blu Ray as well. Will this come into play at all during my purchasing decision?

For reference, here's that cheap ass TV on special that I've been considering: https://www.jbhifi.com.au/tv-home-e...q/soniq-e48w13a-48-full-hd-led-lcd-tv/506393/

Here is a thread on some random site talking about it.

Read up. Reviews from people who spend a few hours with something are one thing, actual customers who spend weeks, months, and years with stuff is another.

Since you are saying 50hz, which I missed the first time through, I assume you are not a North American. I don't really know how the Xbone's tv works for non Americans. I remember around launch there were some problems with 50hz tv's for people, don't have any idea if it ever got fixed or not, but definitely worth checking out if it did.

I did days worth of research before I bought my tv earlier this year. I was all set to go with a 60" Samsung plasma before an insane deal came along for a 70" Sony.

Speaking as someone who has a smart tv, I don't know wtf you are supposed to use those features for. Honest to god no clue. I don't have Netflix, and the browser is slow as molasses, and worse than the ps3's. To me it seems like nothing but a money grab.

Hope I helped. By no means a tv expert (or tech in general). There were a few tv's I was looking at, one was a Toshiba, 50 inch, that was 499 CDN dollars, but when I saw a 70 with 3d, for 2k, I couldn't turn it down.

Surprised no one has mentioned 24p playback. For BluRay, other that the obvious things regarding accurate color reproduction and deep blacks, 24p/hz is very important. Don't just look at 100hz, look for 24p playback.

So will have this via pulldown (speeding up 24p to 25p to play at 50hz), but many screens natively support true 24/48/72hz display which makes the video look amazing.. Looks like your at the movies.

This is certainly challenging! Well @Mdog1, I went to check out the Soniq TV in store - meh, really not impressive. A very obvious "get what you pay for TV." And yes, I'm from Australia so that's probably why the 50Hz refresh rate threw you off - I had no idea this didn't apply for US televisions! At this point, I think I'm going to suck it up and go with the Samsung. You can't go wrong with a premium brand and all the Samsung panels I've had in the past have been spot on.

@gourimoko, I can't seem to find the playback spec? I think this is the TV I'm going to go for: http://www.thegoodguys.com.au/buyonline/Samsung_40"(102cm)_FHD_LED_LCD_100Hz_3D_Smart_TV_UA40H6400AW. Thoughts, guys?

Here's a thread made by someone in a pretty similar situation (I assume).

40ms is bad for fps, but likely won't be noticeable for non twitch games.

Don't get me wrong, I had a 27 Toshiba for years, and I never noticed the massive input lag from in on COD, until I got this one with less. I always did alright, right around 1.3 k/d, it could just be coincidence, but since the new one I'm at 1.7 last I remember.

I notice far less how did that happen deaths. Not a large sample size though, only owned the TV for a few months.

Well, I bit the bullet guys! Meet the family:

And they threw in a Kinect for $50 as well as the 5-day NBA 2K15 deal. Real happy all up. Can't wait to turn the thing on now!

100 dollars a month, play any game you want, type of subscription?

Because that is fantastic. Other people may not like it, but it would be my jam. I already spend nearly that much anyways...

Ps4 outsold xb1 again, no real surprise there. Had to do some real digging to find any numbers. If I am remembering right it was 187 to 131, US sales in July.

Sony's average over the last few months to get to 10m has been 750k worldwide, so assuming july sold the average worldwide, the US accounts for Less than 25% of the playstations overall sales. That actually bodes pretty well for Sony going forward. If the US craps out at least they have other markets to fall back on.

And just for fun, some pretty basic math.

750k for August - the 250k for August 10th we know about puts Sony at 10.5m.

Double it for Destiny (imo, could be wrong) in September for 12m, and back down to 750k for October, 12.75, and then triple it for November and December, so 17.25m for the end of the year.

Now for MS we don't have any numbers really. 1.8m Us sold in 2013, 1.2m sold everywhere else. 60% of sales in US.

So let's say MS is at 5.2m (pretty generous), that means 2.2m sales in 2014 in 7 months. 314k per month.

So 5.5 at the end of August, 1.5 times for Destiny 471k, 6m total.
Back to normal for October, 6.3 total. Triple for November and December Brings us to 8.184m.

Would give Sony a 9 million console lead at the end of the year.

I don't really think MS will get a giant boost from Destiny at all. It's being marketed as a Sony game. I would have said COD would give MS a bigger boost, but Ghosts sold more on ps4...

Edit: and for the record, triple the sales in December and November would be an absolute disaster for both consoles. For example, last December Ps4 and xb1 were both around 900k, xb winning the month by 60k. I was just trying to show how simple it will be for PS4 to get over 17m this year. The lead will he enormous if Sony hits 20m, which isn't exactly out of the question, depending on how many consoles Destiny can sell for them.
Ps4 nearly triple from August sales in the US. From 187k to 538. Took a lot of digging to find the numbers lol.

Xb1 didn't fare nearly as well, selling 284k, but still saw a nice boost from Destiny, and standalone at retail Destiny sold more on XB1. Including the bundles, it sold more on PS4 though.

So if we assume The same thing happened worldwide, PS4 would have sold 2.152m, putting its total at over 12.5m. Of course, that all assumes the % stack up the same they did last month, but that's the best I can do.

With 2ks release, sales shouldn't necessarily crater this month, but it most likely is not going to touch Septembers total. 538k sold is the second most consoles ever sold in a september. Destiny did more for PS4 than Halo 3 did for 360. Crazy success for the game.

Can't make an estimate for XB1 sales, I can't remember last months total, and I apparently missed last month. They were underwhelming I remember that lol. 187k for ps4, and I believe 160k for xb1. If that is true, we can add 622k comfortably to XB1 (284+160×.4+444) based on launch % of 60/40. A 50/50 split gives us 888. Either way, I imagine it is safe to say it is over 5m now for sure. Whether it is close to 6 or not is another question entirely.

I think we are close to PS4 having 50% console marketshare now, and the yearly outlook for it is stronger than I had anticipated, but not by a ton. 18 or 19m isn't completely out of the question.

Edit: May have been wrong about the sales being the second best September ever. PS1, and Dreamcast may have sold more in a September. Although I couldn't find it with a quick search to fact check.
