I'm still wondering what these awesome exclusives that the PS4 has or is going to have. I see like 5 indie games and Uncharted someday. Killzone was flat out garbage. Infamous has already lost it's allure as an IP. The Order 1886 was a 5 hour quicktime event. Bloodborne is another niche game like Dark Souls and not a reason to buy a console. So realistically, you've got Uncharted and an MLB game. I don't care about baseball, so I'd be buying a console for 1 exclusive platformer/puzzle solving action game. I should note that I am buying a PS4 but solely for access to JRPGs that aren't available on the xbox as MS thinks there is no market for said games. Oh I forgot, street fighter. Because yeah, I haven't been into fighting games since I was 14 hanging out at the arcade.
In the mean time, I'll play Tomb Raider, the new Halo, a new eventual Gears of War, a revival of a ton of classic Rare IPs like possibly banjo kazooie, conker, etc.
I just find it humorous that everything PS has added over the years has been a copy of Xbox starting all the way back to Trophies if not further. Realistically, this new firmware update adds in the ability to change your controller layout, because it's cool to make your circle button the square button to fuck with your friends, and some stuff microsoft already has. For being the better system, why can't they come up with something innovative?
Is it because SOE split off and now makes Xbox games too instead of being the Sony exclusive studio?
Of the games you listed, literally none of them are interesting to me. Another shooter yay. I can't get that fix with every other game on the market today. Tomb Raider, the poor mans Uncharted (which funny enough is the poor mans Tomb Raider...).
Halo? By the guys that gave you a game that finally works after 6 months (well kind of sort of most of the time)! Gears of War by a studio that has never made Gears of War.
So this year for Xbox you're looking forward to 2 games, one of which will be coming to PS4 at a later date. What are you playing the next 6 months? Serious question. The answer is likely games that are also available on PS4.
Someone asked who is winning the gen, it's PS4 by a very large margin. Current estimations would put X1 between 11 and 12 million, with PS4 at 20.2 million.
With the lack of games until fall, and a likely PS4 price cut this year, it wouldn't be shocking if PS4 hits 38m, and X1 only hits 18 or less. It is dead outside of the US/UK, and even with a 50$ price advantage in the US it lost last month.
PS4 has sold 1.7m this year in the two slowest months of the year. X1 sold about 8 million all of last year.
This gen is set to drastically decline over last gen. PS4 might hit 100m, but we're losing at least 80m from Nintendo. Everyone expects a shorter gen (thank god), so less years to sell. The only advantage this gen has, is that the parts are more price scalable. As more GDDR5 gets made, the PS4 price is going to drop a lot, and die shrinks for both consoles.
I was doing some looking at the future, and the whole reason I bought a PS4 is lucky to even get 2 releases this gen (if the COD franchise is not dead by then). Less and less reasons to own a console. I could just buy/upgrade a pc every 3 years and basically be in the same situation.
And X, congratulations on the seat. That's all kinds of awesome. If/when I get a PC, i'm looking to do the same thing for VR racing games.
