Your 2019 Cleveland Indians

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Rick Manning: "Indians aren't playing as a team, they're playing as individuals"

"worrying about being the guy that gets a hit or 2 instead of taking what the pitcher is giving you"

"Every game this homestand we've had a different outfield"

This was the homestand to stay around 4.5 or maybe get into the 3.5 games back territory, we might be back 7.5 by tonight, then we welcome in Tampa Bay. The Indians could very well be 9.5 back heading into next week.

July will be here soon though, training camp will take over.

The Indians have about 2-3 weeks to turn it around.

The Rays, Yankees and Red Sox are next on the docket, and they're already facing a 6-7 game deficit in the division.

I'd expect Bauer, Kipnis and others to be moved if they can't right the ship over the next few series.
Yeah, tough call because the WC chase at the moment is still pretty open, but at the same time, it’s hard not to be realistic about what this team has and doesn’t have, and question whether it would be better to add some value to the next 3-5 years and beyond by dealing some of the people you mentioned or to subtract a little bit from the future in order to add to this years team, believing that if the pitching is healthy come September, that two solid bats and a reliever could elevate this team well beyond what it looks like today.

The optics of selling pieces prior to the hosted ASG are probably at least peripherally on their mind.

But if they do play to their record post the really hot start to the season they had(first two weeks), then what choice do they have but to try and add some prospects for a guy like Bauer and to shed a deal like Kipnis to open up spending possibilities this coming offseason. It doesn’t need to be a year down the whole thing fire sale, but they need to be smart and realistic.

A Bauer trade makes total sense.
However, who in their right mind would trade for Kipnis?
Lindor would be the more likely candidate.

Agree on Kipnis but isnt it a little early to trade Frankie? How many more years does he have left on his contract? 2 years after this one? I think i would hold off on trading Frankie.

My guess is Kipnis would be packaged with Bauer as a salary shedding move.

But that would dilute the prospect return for Bauer, which the Tribe FO wanted to avoid with Kluber trade talk during this past offseason.

Get back to me in August.
Even if the Indians lose there final 110 or so games in a row, there is no need or impetus on seeking to deal Lindor.

If a team proactively approached them with a generational offer, you perhaps consider, but nothing that happens record wise this season merits or necessitates a trade of Lindor this season or offseason.

Less then it would have in the winter, with close to half of this season money paid to Kip by the time a trade would happen.

Also depends on the team in question, how desperate they are for another starter, or if Kipnis and Bauer are even packaged together. You perhaps even consider moving a decent prospect at an extremely backlogged position to attach to Kipnis in exchange for a reliever with a few years of team control that they believe they might be able to get more out of then the current team he’s on

Why? I'd much prefer your takes just get better before then.

Gutbusting hilarity.

Buster Olney has stated in numerous interviews that the question isn't "if the Indians are trading Lindor, but when."

I never said Lindor was a guarantee to get traded at the deadline, but he's much more likely than Jason freaking Kipnis.

The Tribe clearly has no intention of re-signing Lindor, they aren't going to add payroll to improve this team after a predictably underwhelming season, and they'll try to avoid a Machado situation where they wait too late to trade him.

You can dig in on this terrible take all you'd like, but Lindor isn't getting traded at the deadline.

If they continue to lose, Kipnis will. Granted, for next to nothing.

But they'll shed him if they decide to sell, given that this is his last year in Cleveland.

Didn't really think it would be an issue that folks would struggle to comprehend, yet here we are.

They'd have to attach a prospect to dump Kipnis' contract, which I'm sure they don't want to do.
He's an albatross of $ owed for the rest of this season and the $2.5 million buyout for 2020.
He hasn't had a 100wRC+ season since 2016, but sure, they'll be able to shed his salary to a team that has been in a collective coma since spring training of 2017.

Do you honestly think they Indians won't seriously listen if a team offers them a strong package for Lindor?
They clearly have prioritized salary shedding over serious contention since the end of 2018, so why not try and maximize his value before he signs for a contract they'll never even entertain offering him?

I'm not really sure why you act like a presiding authority on what moves the team will make. You were dead wrong about them re-investing their savings from trades/letting free agents walk back into 2019 payroll.

What contract? He's a free agent at the end of the year...

The fuck are you even talking about, man. :chuckle:

They'd just eat the money to deal him, how are you struggling so much with this?
