Your 2019 Cleveland Indians

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Same exact thing as Bauer last year. Both just looking unstoppable then right to the DL. Watched that game and there wasn't a single sign that anything was wrong. I guess better now than later. Hopefully he's right if/when he gets back.

Anderson would be aligned to start on Clevenger's day.

That said, I don't know how extended he is from a pitch count perspective. He only threw 40 pitches and likely isn't going to be going above 75 in his next start.

Bieber is more than capable of being a 4th starter right now. And the 5th starter is just...not that important.

This sucks, especially since Clevinger was throwing gas to start the year...but this isn't a critical blow or anything right now.

Ryan Merritt in one start with Tampa's Triple-A team this year:

0.2 IP, 7 H, 6 ER, 81.00 ERA, 10.50 WHIP

Well that fucking sucks

When you have an inexperienced pen and a struggling offense, losing a starter you know can shut down opposing teams is absolutely a critical blow.

I don't think you'd want to rock the boat rotation-wise in the middle of the season, so I think it'd be best to wait until the off-season to move a starter.

Hopefully then you can slide in McKenzie, and manage his workload as a 5th starter.

Only problem is that Bauer is such a workhorse. That will be tough to replace. Even on a bad day, he can eat innings, throw 120 pitches, and save the bullpen. Maybe Bieber becomes that guy.

I can appreciate the conservative approach. But if you want to win NOW, it just depends on the offer.
I believe they should (and they probably
Already do) have these guys (Kluber and Bauer) dangling for teams with asking tags on each of them.
If someone is willing to pay, so be it. If not, keep rolling out the best staff in baseball.
I also gotta think, depending on the standings, that they may add a bat around the deadline without moving anyone.

Should have traded Kluber in the offseason. We have plenty of starting pitching and need more hitting. And yeah during the playoffs you can get away with pitching only a 3 man rotation. So the advantage the Indians have over other teams is that we have more starting pitching depth. But in the playoffs we don't need the depth, our advantage doesn't work in the postseason. And then playoffs Francona panics and takes the staring pitcher out of he's giving up a run by the 4th inning, goes to the bullpen too soon.

Who were you trading him to and for what?

Just read the Clevinger news. Delete the above lol.

Is this an unusual injury? I've never heard of this ligament before. Is there someone comparable that had a similar injury?

I see that Clayton Kershaw had a similar injury in spring training and he has yet to pitch this season. But he is on a rehab assignment and should pitch next week.

My guess is they give Jefrey Rodriguez a shot. He was part of the Yan Gomes trade. Made 8 starts for Washington last year. That's who I would call up, anyway. I don't want anything to do with Cody Anderson or any kind of veteran off the street.

I like that plan. I'd also prefer for them to continue trying to shorten Cody Anderson's arm to throw him out of the pen at the MLB level. Maybe I'm still clinging to his good showing a few years back, but I think his stuff can play out of the pen.

I was never a Cody Anderson guy. Even during his successful stretch in 2015, it was completely unsustainable. He struck out just 4.34 guys per 9, which is an astronomically low number. When the ball gets put in play that much, bad things are bound to happen.

However, I do think his stuff can play out of the pen where he can just lean on his fastball/change combo. He's shown a much improved whiff rate in his limited bullpen appearances across AAA/majors.
