Game #1-Cleveland Browns vs Miami Dolphins-September 8th, 2013 1:00 p.m. EST

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Desperately need a RG that can push forward, and an actual FB that can pass/run block. Hartline is a solid chain mover, but he shouldn't be beating anybody deep. The issues we knew we had going in, that we've had since last year and beyond, weren't addressed and we paid for it. Banner said there would be a noticeable improvement based solely on the coaching, and it looked the same as always. I think Banner owes an explanation for the unused cap space.

Jordan Cameron over 100yds and could have had multiple TDs. Run defense and pass rush looked good.

Thank God Heckert, RCF's man crush, infused this team with so much talent during his time with the Browns. Where would we be without game breakers like Greg Little, Mitchell Schwartz, and Brandon Weeden?

They are game breakers all right.

One thing that does give me hope is that the Browns front seven wasn't totally healthy and they flat out were better than the offense for 90% of the time. But Tannehill had two drives and that was it for this offense.

At least that was fun to watch.

Yikes.

Why use the cap space on a bunch of overpaid, stop-gap guys on a really bad football team? Free agency in football is grossly overrated. It's not going to save a bad football team like ours. You just use it to fill depth, and if you're lucky land a really good star caliber player. I don't think many are are lining up to come here.

Over rated? Really? You know those sacks we got today? All were by guys we signed as free agents this off season. Our best wide receiver today, a guy named Bess, also a free agent.

You must have a sadistic personality.

Why should we spend money to support the run game or add depth to the secondary? Yeah I mean, most cap space wins the GM Olympics after all. FBs are expensive as hell. Wouldn't want Jimmy to have to cancel his Mad magazine subscription.

You so missed my point, man. I didn't say you can't find good players from free agency. I simply pointed out you're not going to build a super bowl team out of free agency. We still lost the game, as you can see.

This is not basketball or baseball. 90% of the teams you seeing winning football games is result of the players from the draft. One or two players from free agency can help put an already good team over the top. It's not going to make a bad football team like us suddenly good because of free agency!

To gripe about free agency, because we're bad is laughable.

We traded for Bess, he wasn't signed as a free agent by the way.

True about Bess, my bad.

Free agents can take a bad team and improve them greatly. It really is on a case by case basis. Had we gotten a good CB, WR and one or two other weak spots and we'd have a pretty good team. Building Super Bowl teams is normally done through the draft. You can take a 5-11 team and with key free agent signings get them to 8-8. Once thats done you need another good draft and free agent signings to get you over the top. And of course you need coaches that know how to use those players. And thats one big thing we lacked today. 53 Pass attempts vs 13 running plays is simply inexcusable from Norv Turner, he knows better.

The fact that Cousins is not being replaced (according to his presser) by Chud has for next week has me beyond furious. Once again a Cleveland pro team that is content on putting out players that do not belong in league as starters, and playing the " we will be better in a few years card" It has gotten beyond old for me. God forbid we try to do everything we can to win now.

We always play for the future. The future never comes, while other organizations try fill holes and have a sense of urgency to get better right away.

From what I saw of Gilkey, he could not do any worse than Cousins. Cousins performance today was one of the worst I have seen from an OL in many many years.

They didn't fix those problems via the draft either. It seems a lot like they were hoping coaching would help hide the issues we had. Pinkston and Lauvao weren't any good before their injuries. You go from stopgap to Cousins. Skrine doesn't seem to know how to play corner, McFadden they drafted can't play. The DLine and Linebackers looked good today, positions they seriously pursued. You really have to reserve judgement on that too though because the Dolphins were said to have a terrible OLine.

We have Richardson. Not only do we not use him, we don't support him in any way. My first thought is to find him a nasty RG and FB to clear the path to make plays. I'm not saying we should spend a top 5 pick on a guard or spend a ridiculous amount of money in the beginning of free agency. There's got to be somebody out there that is a better answer than Pinkston, Lauvao, Cousins, Marecic, Smelly... Ogbonnaya playing FB in a pinch is nice and all but that is not a good long term plan going into the season.

Free Agency would not have made this team a winner. This is a bottom-5 team talent wise. No elite, pro bowl level players outside of Joe Haden and Joe Thomas. And maybe Richardson, but the passing game is so bad we really can't tell.
