Hollywood scandal

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Has anybody even been called a snowflake here at rcf? I feel like it's only been used in Jest, but mostly by left leaning members mocking the right.

I've been called it numerous times.

TONE DEAF: Oscar Buzz For Movie About Romance Between 25-Year-Old Man And 17-Year-Old Boy
"Call Me By Your Name"

Call Me By Your Name

In the wake of the Harvey Weinstein scandal, as scores of Hollywood's A-list talent and power brokers are being exposed for their alleged sexual misconduct, it seems oddly tone deaf for the industry to hail as an "Oscar contender" a movie about a 25-year-old man seducing a 17-old-boy.

Yet, the movie, "Call Me By Your Name," stars Armie Hammer ("The Social Network"), as a lecherous 25-year-old preying on the 17-year-old Timothée Chalamet ("Interstellar") during one hot Italian summer in 1983.

Following the revelations that Kevin Spacey allegedly pursued sex with underaged boys, a movie about the pitfalls of that lifestyle seems apt. Has Hollywood finally found what Weinstein once described as its "moral compass"?

Not in the least. In fact, just one year after Tinseltown awarded Best Picture to a movie featuring two male teens giving eachother handjobs on a Miami beach, the industry seems intent on pumping the creep factor up to 11. Hardly a cautionary tale, "Call Me By Your Name" is a romance of depraved proportions.

Here's how Angie Han of Mashable glowingly described the film's subject matter, praising it for shrugging off the bourgeois values inherent to relationships "filtered through a heterosexual male gaze."

Sound and image collide to create an almost tactile sensation. You can practically feel the sun on your skin and taste the sweat on your lips. Much attention is paid to the way the two romantic leads – young Elio (Timothée Chalamet) and Oliver (Armie Hammer) – carry themselves and regard each other, and the physical attraction between them feels immediate and electric.

It's not that Call Me By Your Name is especially explicit (though the famous peach scene is definitely going to get people talking), but that it's unmistakably sensual. Sex is no mere byproduct of love; nor is love an elevation of sex. In Call Me By Your Name, the romantic and the erotic are inextricably intertwined.

The "infamous peach scene" referred to above involves the 17-year-old boy masturbating into a cut peach, which Armie Hammer's character eventually eats. Like this transgender artist urinating into a bucket to protest Trump, biting into a peach once used as an instrument for self-stimulation now passes as "art."

The film now holds a 98% on Rotten Tomatoes, with every major critic hailing the film as an erotic masterpiece.

"There is no sin, it insists. There is just joy — and whether you find that in a cold glass of apricot juice or the warm embrace of a village beauty should matter to no one but you," says Stephen Whitty of the Newark Star Ledger.

"A powerfully erotic and affecting love story, albeit one so closely and intimately observed that the term 'slow burn' seems almost inadequate," says Justin Chang of the Los Angeles Times.

"Refreshingly fun, erotic, non-judgmental and both intellectually and emotionally smart," says Bob Strauss of the Los Angeles Daily News.

Both Hollywood Reporter and USA Today have hailed the movie as a serious Oscar contender; nobody within the Hollywood echo-chamber, however, has acknowledged that pushing a movie about sexual predation dressed up as puppy romance is not exactly the best way to repair their tarnished image while several of their biggest power players are being investigated for sex crimes.

Tone deaf; movie that is an adaptation of a book that takes place in a country where 14 is the legal age of consent.

Edit; to clarify- there's nothing illegal about the relationship within the constrains of plot.

Terry Crews Claims Russell Simmons Told Him to Give Alleged Abuser ‘a Pass’

Actor Terry Crews claimed Sunday that music mogul Russell Simmons asked him to give a “pass” to the powerful Hollywood talent agent the “Brooklyn Nine-Nine star” accused of groping him.
Crews, who claimed that agent Adam Venit, head of WME’s Motion Picture Group, groped him during an event in Hollywood last year, tweeted a photo of an email conversation which purportedly shows Simmons asking the actor to give Venit a “pass.”

“Message Russell Simmons sent to me regarding my sexual assault case against Adam Venit of @WME,” Crews captioned the tweet, which included a screenshot of what appears to be an email from Simmons.

“Did he ever apologize,” reads the Nov. 3 email Simmons purportedly sent to Crews. “Give the agent a pass .. ask that he be reinstated.” Simmons signed off: “With great love, all things are possible.”

Last week, Crews filed a police report with the LAPD over the alleged assault, and told TMZ that he plans to file a lawsuit as well. Venit was placed on leave earlier this month, following an investigation into the alleged assault.

The 49-year-old star told Good Morning America co-host Michael Strahan last week that the allegedly “overtly sexual” encounter with Venit was unrelenting and horrifying.

Crews’ tweet revealing the conversation with Simmons, came as the Los Angeles Times reported that model Keri Claussen Khalighi accused the Hollywood super-producer of sexually assaulting her in 1991 at his New York City apartment when she was 17-years-old. Simmons “completely and unequivocally” denied Khalighi’s claim.

Simmons is now the latest major Hollywood figure to be accused of misconduct amid mounting allegations against A-list stars.

Not to say "I told you so" but....

4 reasons 'Justice League' has flopped at the box office

http://www.businessinsider.com/why-justice-league-was-a-box-office-flop-2017-11

Justice League absolutely tanked, even with otherwise good reviews compared to other recent DC movies.

Thor and WonderWoman both did well recently....Justice League flopped.

It DOES NOT help that Ben Affleck was the face of the movie.....it's Hollywood revolt.......

But again, you are better than this. Don't stoop to the level of those who have wronged you. It doesn't become you.

I just want to add that these are my exact sentiments. I have enormous respect for @King Stannis and that just seems somewhat out of character to me.

This could be an accurate allusion of how simmons is slithering around, but he's deeply religious and I think very much into forgiveness and love.

Russell Simmons and Brett Ratner face new allegations of sexual misconduct
By Amy Kaufman, Daniel Miller and Victoria Kim

Keri Claussen Khalighi was a 17-year-old fashion model from a farm town in Nebraska when she met Brett Ratner and Russell Simmons at a casting call.

Ratner was an up-and-coming music video director and a protege of Simmons, the Def Jam Recordings mogul. They took Khalighi to dinner one night in 1991 at Mr. Chow in New York, and then back to Simmons’ apartment to show her a music video they’d been working on.

Quickly, Simmons began making aggressive sexual advances, yanking off her clothes, Khalighi said.

“I looked over at Brett and said ‘help me’ and I'll never forget the look on his face,” she recalled. “In that moment, the realization fell on me that they were in it together.”

Khalighi said that Simmons, who was then about twice her age, tried to force her to have intercourse. “I fought it wildly,” she said. He eventually relented and coerced her to perform oral sex, she alleged. “I guess I just acquiesced.”

Ratner, meanwhile, “just sat there and watched,” she said.

Feeling “disgusting,” Khalighi said she went to take a shower. Minutes later, she alleged, Simmons walked up behind her in the shower and briefly penetrated her without her consent. She said she jerked away, then he left. “It hurt so much.”

I don't think Affleck had anything to do with it. I think it tanked because it's a bad movie that is currently sitting at 40% on Rotten Tomatoes. It also had a bad trailer that made it look like a shitty Avengers knock-off.

Meanwhile, Thor (92%) and Wonder Woman (92%) were both pretty unanimously praised as good movies and did well as a result.

It would also be legal in 39 of our 50 states where the age of consent is 16 or 17.

That is the worst analogy I have ever seen. What on Earth are you talking about?

10 people like my post and knew what i was talking about. Maybe you mis-read it a couple times. Tlyons disliked my post, of course.

The only thing I can garner from that is that you're pissed off about not being able to call Muslims names or that your conservative persecution complex has you hearing calls of bigot everywhere in these threads.

:chuckle: You honestly think i am pissed off because i cant call muslims names? You think i have a conservative persecution complex? Ok.

Look, you took a shot at Christians. Im assuming when people are making slams like that they want a response...you got one. I was simply pointing out that rules around here are different. That's all.

You appear to be the most pissed off of anyone on here based on some of your rants of late. BMan is up there. ;)

I am not going to plow through every thread, but you made the accusation, so I want proof that people are routinely called bigots to their face for pointing out a Muslim has committed an act of terror.

Show me. Block quotes.

No. They're out there. Im not going to turn this thread into a holy war.

Paging @gourimoko. I feel like the above is an implied dig at you.

You're a big boy...you dont need Gour to fight your battles. Your post was the "dig". My post was merely pointing out the double standards.

Not a peep

Despite mountains of evidence to the contrary, i do have a life outside of RCF on the weekends. :(
Ill try to be more prompt with my replies.

I assumed he was taking the phrase "A true God-fearing, Christian, Family Values...." as being a mocking of conservative Christians in general. Because it was entirely possible for this guy to be called out as a hypocrite based solely on anti-gay statements he made, without the rest of it.

In other words, it comes across as a generic slam against Christian conservatives, which is tolerated and even applauded in way that slams against the Muslims never are.

@Maximus

This.

I liked his post because I thought the story was funny and that Goodman is an obvious hypocrite.

But with that said, couple points before I probably have to immediately permaban myself from this thread when it becomes another discrimination/censorship bitching black hole like the other ones...

1) Islam is exploited for headlines but it has become somewhat protected on social media by millenials and more liberal leaning people.

2) Christians get minimal protection in social media and it’s been pretty trendy for years to mock them. Christians seem to be suffering this mostly silently as per the rules in their religion.

I see value in making fun of both groups without ill intent and no value in blanket hating either of them. I am neither Muslim nor Christian and I’m not a hateful person... so this is pretty easy for me to say.

Bottom line...I think @Maximus has a real beef here. I also don’t have any vested interest in fighting his battle for him.

Pussy.

And this.

The "infamous peach scene" referred to above involves the 17-year-old boy masturbating into a cut peach, which Armie Hammer's character eventually eats.

Damn. I am so glad my bourgeois values filtered through a male heterosexual gaze are going to keep me from seeing this particular masterpiece....

Man that just doesn't make any sense to me. Two dudes try to rape you, you get away from them, and then you get naked and shower in the apartment they're in? I gotta call bullshit on that one.
