Cavs summer league team

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Last year's Cavs would've had the 10th-best scoring differential in the West. Even if LeBron maintains his high minutes, and more favorable refereeing completely cancels out any age-related decline, he'll probably need to get more help this year from his supporting cast to make the playoffs. That seems unlikely.
I disagree. But, there's only one way to find out. I won't be watching closely or care much, tho. :)

Disagree that if LeBron's regular impact stays the same, he'll need more help to make the playoffs this year? Or disagree that his new supporting cast is unlikely to be an improvement over what he had in Cleveland? Anyway, we should probably wrap up this conversation, not the right place for it.

I guess I don't really care enough to think through it further. Maybe you're right, but my gut tells me that last year's LeBron + favoritism by the officials = good team. How good? We will see.

And yes, we should move on. :)

Who do we want from Summer league?

Matthias?
Artis?
Scoochie?
The Bladivinsky guy could be ok if he could bulk up, but I dunno. He is a stretch 5 and is pretty fast.

Personally, I think they all need to go to Canton. Matthias I could live with getting some time with the team. I would like him at training camp. He needs to live in the weight room until then.

Artis. I want nothing to do with Scoochie or any other undersized PG who will be unable to defend NBA PGs.

I hope none of these supporting cast guys occupy an actual spot on the 15 man roster. Cedi, Zizic, and Sexton were the NBA talent, everyone else was in competition for the other two way contract. I'd hope they liked the success they enjoyed with the coaching staff and they choose to remain with the Charge, but a few could get some great offers from the Euroleague. Can't stand in the way of a team like Maccabi Tel Aviv or Fenerbaçe in Turkey throwing multi-millions at a guy who may never see more than 10 mop up duty NBA games.

I think Mathias is going to stay with the Charge because he is a local. I could see Scoochie staying around and leading that Charge team because Dayton is so close by, but he may want a two way deal. Its hard to imagine a team with a rookie point guard using a two way deal on another point guard. I have Artis in the lead for that last spot but they might raid another team's cuts. I don't believe Marcus Lee showed enough polish for his age to edge Artis, but the raw athleticism can't be taught.

What about Colson?

Artis is like Alonzo Gee to me. Just a guy who can do a couple of things. Your basic Utility player. He seems fine. Good wing insurance especially if we can trade JR or Korver. Rather keep Korver BTW

What about Colson?

He has some kind of contract. I don't think we know the details. Might be like Matthias' that gives him a bonus if he gets cut in training camp and he stays with the Charge?

Sounds to me like they knew he wouldn't be ready for Summer League, but wanted to keep him off the market.

Yeah...given that no other 2-way candidates stood out in summer league, I tend to think he's in the driver's seat if he gets healthy and the Cavs like what they see in scrimmages. Probably more potential to develop into a legitimate rotation player than Scoochie, Mathias, Lee, Artis, Holland, Brodziansky combined.

I would bring Artis to camp. I think Okaro White and Holland will get to come to camp, even though I think we should cut ties with both. I wouldn't be giving anyone the two way contract or a roster spot yet. We need to see who we can pick off from other summer league teams and have them fight it out in camp. I would also look to see if we can get anyone from Europe to come to training camp, even if they are just Americans who went over there after college. Guys like Deshaun Thomas or Aaron Craft.

We should be in good position to get a good group in to fight for the last 3 roster spots and the two way. I'm not sure many other teams have that many roster spots open. We shouldn't have to settle for guys like Okaro White or Holland.

I think Holland makes camp. Colson hasn't shown anything, but Artis surprised me. I also liked Lee..

Artis was good, but he makes me wonder if we shouldn't just get Jeveon Graham or some of these other basic wing players. Artis' shooting seemed pretty good. I would want him as a 3 and D, but guys said his D wasn't very good. I can't tell much from summer league on D. It's too chaotic.

I actually feel like that team isn't too bad. Lakers fans are severely overrating them but they actually had solid chemistry last year when they were healthy and have depth at every position. The question marks are going to be the headcases. But LeBron has been fairly good at dealing with them. Outside of Love (and I shudder to say this), that Lakers roster was actually better than ours last year in terms of sheer production, cohesion and defense.

I agree on the defensive end. Curious how their individual production is when playing with Lebron.
