2019 Browns Off Season/Roster Discussion

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Man, I’ll be the one Dak supporter. His completions over expected completions and yards over expected yards are in the NFL’s top-ten. Dallas has terrible playcalling but I think Dak’s actually pretty underrated.

I think Dak is much closer to someone like Tyrod Taylor than he is to a franchise-leading QB.

He's slow to make reads. He throws the ball late. I haven't seen him improve at all in these areas since he came into the league.

He's like a more accurate Blake Bortles.

This will be a real interesting season for the Cowboys...there's no more excuses

It’s possible... but Garrett and Dallas management needs to take some blame there. Garrett arguably is the worst first down playcaller in the NFL, has incorporated no RPO-type plays into the offense, and uses almost no pre-snap motion. His idea of a good offense is running Zeke up the middle on the first two plays and then having Dak throw down the middle on third down.

Dak improved significantly after getting Cooper. It gave Dak a target that could reliably get open, even on frequent third-and-long.

I’d actually argue that Dak is closer to a Jared Goff - only in the sense that I think he’s being significantly hampered by terrible coaching - than Tyrod (who had inflated numbers due to good coaching in 2017).

I don’t think Dak will ever be an elite QB that any team would build their franchise around... but he’s not this hopeless project like people paint him out to be, and his numbers and Dallas’s mild success reflect that.

I agree that if you have a bad QB, you should be more creative in your playcalling to create an effective offense--a la Baltimore last year.

The thing is--Dak's still a bad QB.

If you look at his time to throw, and his completed air yards, the only players who are worse than him are Cody Kessler, Brock Osweiler and Blake Bortles. Every other QB that takes a long time to throw at least moves the ball downfield.

It's just that when I watch Dak in the pocket, he reminds me so much of Tyrod in Cleveland. The dude waits until after his receivers are already open, and then throws it. That's not NFL-caliber QB play.

I guess we’ll agree to disagree... he’s really efficient, and that’s what I’m looking at. I think there is a world where we are both correct - he may be really efficient, but still has a really slow release that teams who can generate more pressure will take advantage of.

Fair enough. I don't even think it's just a release thing. I think he's slow to read the field, can't go through an NFL progression, and doesn't anticipate throws.

This. Can’t go thru progressions. I saw this dude make a perfect pass in the RZ once, but it was first read.

He is fool’s gold. Maybe even fools’ gold, and perhaps even fools gold. I don’t believe the things wrong with him can be fixed, and I don’t believe he can win a title, especially an NFC championship game on the road.

Browns and Texans should be on the phone with the Redskins. I think both teams can make reasonable trades for Trent Williams.

Also, Redskins should really just pay him. But I feel the same way about the Jaguars and Jalen Ramsey.

Going out and getting Trent Williams is a game-changing move, to me.

Instantly turns the left side of the line into a Top 3 group, league wide.

What does compensation look like? Obviously he’s an all world talent, but I’m unfamiliar with what his contract looks like. Would it be a 2nd or 3rd rounder kind of price?

My guess is it would be a 2020 third or 2021 second round pick, a wide-receiver, and maybe Robinson or Hubbard.

Yeah, hopefully the latter.

If the relationship is truly fractured, the value is obvious. Third round pick would be a standing offer for me.

4th and the extra 6th acquired by Arizona, more ideally.

Washington is really concerned with their receivers. I’d imagine it would take a 2020 third and Callaway, especially if other teams are making competitive offers.

I’d still do that deal, though. It instantly fills our biggest hole. Obviously I’d rather only have to give up a third, but I figured it would take more.
