The 2020 Cleveland Indians

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Good move with klub. He’ll probably get traded. But if not he can still he a good 3rd starter. It’s worth a risk to pick up the option to see what he’s got left.

Curious what Zobrist has left after he found out his Jesus-obsessed wife was getting absolutely pumped by another dude and left the team for most of last season.

Heart goes out to the guy, but he needs to do what he needs to do in order to get his mind right.

That has to suck.

Damn, I knew he left because of a divorce but didn't know the details. Where are his kids located? Could impact his MLB future, I suppose.

A no-brainer to pick up Kluber's option.

Not that he's a legit source, but Chris Rose expects the Tribe to trade Lindor this offseason.
Anyone else expect it to happen?
I really can't see it, unless the Dodgers are offering Lux and May--which they won't do.

The contract option decisions make plenty of sense. Announcing now puts to rest needless speculation That said I found a different item in the article very interesting....

As far as the coaching staff is concerned, manager Terry Francona announced that the team has dismissed bullpen coach Scott Atchison but will retain the rest of his staff for the 2020 season (Twitter link via Zack Meisel of The Athletic).

I have to think there is a back story on this & I am curious to hear it.
Atchison took over after the 2018 season where he was communicating things from the FO/ Analytics group to the pitching staff & soon there after Steve Karsay left the organization (& AAA pitching coach slot) to take over as the Brewers bullpen coach.

I'm also curious on who takes over the spot moving forward.

The same people that wanted the Indians to decline Kluber's 2020 option are the same people who wanted the Indians to decline Brantley's 2018 option

Yep. I'm sure Lindor likes it here fine. He just likes $400 million over 10 years and a big market, a lot better. Would trade him for a haul if given the opportunity, but no way am I just giving him away because we "know he's gone," though.
With Mookie Betts also being on the market for a trade we're going to have a difficult time moving Lindor for the pieces we want. I think it still needs to be done. (I don't care which team you are) You can't put 15-25% of your salary into one player (and expect to win). Especially one who hit around the Mendoza line with RISP.

Kluber is another piece we need to find a home for. He's an amazing pitcher, we just don't have a use for him anymore. He's highly affordable for any team. We should be able to get a nice piece or three.

The last two free agent markets have made it clear baseball has reached it's peak as far as salaries and popularity is concerned (at least for a while). If you want to win in the future you need a balanced/hungry team.

Someone who's making 30-40 million dollars a year is no longer hungry.

What would be some realistic Lindor trades if he went this offseason?

I would have declined Brantley (obviously would have been a mistake) but I absolutely would pick up Kluber. Hope I'm not wrong twice!

Seeing the comments to the tweet saying we should let Kluber go and re-sign Puig are the epitome of casual fandom

All fandom is casual.

It's just an opinion. Don't let it get to your head.

I can guarantee that there are zero front offices who give a shit what a guy hit with RISP for a season.

Kluber is still very much needed here. After Bieber and Clev, we have a lot of question marks. We need either him or Carrasco to return to 100% or close to it next year.

Also, it's kind of silly to suggest that highly paid players aren't hungry to win.

Initially, I figured it was a no-brainer to pick up Kluber's option until I saw it was 17.5 million. What the Tribe has to weigh is whether or not they can get comparable production for that 17.5 million in FA. The odds are 'no', so just like with Danny Salazar, they kind of have to take the chance and pick it up. Im not sure it does anything for them trade-wise; he's coming off a season lost to injury, only has the one season left, and is an obvious regression candidate at age 34, coming off a season lost to injuries and being an workhorse for 5 straight years. If he does well, the Tribe should be in contention and they don't trade him at the deadline. Hopefully Kluber can overcome the obvious obstacles, put aside whatever the setback was at the end of the season, find his mojo again after the slow start and the Tribe has something really cooking for next year.
