2020 Off-Season Rumors/News

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
2018 was his only good season. I'm fine with a minor league deal, but if Matt Duffy is our starting 3B that'll be a pretty disappointing winter.

2015 was definitely his best season - 4.7 bWAR, 12 HR, .762 OPS, 169 H, good defensive numbers

He was good in 2015, fought nagging injuries in 2016, was pretty good in 2018, and was below average last year. He's been above league average in two of his four full seasons, wouldn't mind kicking the tires on him.

Duffy has good on-base skills, he just has no power whatsoever.

Omar Vizquel has left the White Sox organization
Omar left the Tigers years ago as MLB coach because he wanted a chance to manage & the feedback he got was he needed to get some managing experience. That lead to 2 successful seasons in the ChiSox minors.

It will be interesting to see what his next step is or if this is only a 1 yr hiatus...

AL Central is going to be loaded with catchers next season:
- Yasmani Grandal - top 3 in baseball
- Roberto Perez - arguably the best defender and has a plus bat (for catchers)
- Mitch Garver - .995 OPS w/ 31 HR in 93 games
- Salvador Perez - 6x All-Star, 5x Gold Glove, still only going to be 30

Detroit's catchers still kinda suck, but Jake Rogers is a relatively highly touted prospect that should see a good amount of time.

My sources texted me today amazed by Mellinger’s tweets and were not in the loop.

Not uncommon for discussions at that level, because that’s well above their pay grade.

Very very interested to see the legs for this.

Strap in.

Will the Dolans cash in anytime soon?
“I don’t know,” he said. “I don’t know that we planned to own it for 20 years. You just don’t know. There’s no plan not to own the team. I’ll put it that way. My parents are aging, so things could happen.”

From the Athletic’s interview with Paul Dolan in the spring

Larry Dolan will be 89 in February. Not surprising if Paul is starting to sniff around for potential buyers of the franchise

Paul is one of Larry's 6 kids. Could get interesting if some or the majority of them will want to sell out.

The only one who may have any say in that is Matt who is a co-owner along with Larry and Paul but Matt is currently in the Senate

I thought I read or heard some time that Larry was going to leave his shares to the rest of his kids. Wikipedia has the same unverified statement so it must be true.
