Lottery moved up 5 days!
Avdija has been baad.
I thought they might turn it around in the third but... yeesh.
Had the chance to pull down an additional 20 prospects here......a few second rounders who jump out as undervalued:
Desmond Bane
Payton Pritchard
Elijah Hughes
Those 3 sneak in to the top 1/3 of prospects for me......just on a pure calculation basis. It sees those three as plus values in the second round. Bane and Pritchard it ranks as traditional 1st round picks, even dinging them for being older. They both have positive value in the 3 calculations my stuff spits out, making them higher than average success candidates. Hughes it likes as a projectable shooter with 3&D potential.

I've seen mocks with Bane drafted in the late first by a contender because he can help right away. He is built powerfully for man defense and has developed into an accurate shooter off the dribble and off the bounce. I don't mind a junior or a senior if it's the late 1st or second round, because at that point a team is probably looking for bench depth. He's got some seriously short arms for his body, I'll be interested to see his wingspan when the combine rolls around. I don't see a great fit for the Cavs if they sneak into the second because of those alligator arms.
I like Bane and Pritchard in the late first or early second. Hughes I'm less sure of. He can do all the roleplayer things at an adequate level offensively, but (in contrast to Bane) I don't see a lot of evidence that he's going to be a useful defensive player.
Yeah, the Cuse guys are always tough.....but I think case for Hughes is in his offensive synergy data.....he grades out as an excellent spot up and transition ........and the arc of his FT%, combined with his 3PT volume intimates he's a pretty good bet to be an NBA shooter. His shot charts re: range are also excellent. He was logged taking 100+ NBA 3's and shot nearly 40%. So he really does have a lot of gravity on the perimeter.
His percentages were really drug down by shot selection, so it is also an exercise in getting him away from ISO shooting to some degree.....or at least difficult ISO shooting. He honestly reminds me a lot of JR Smith when I watch him.....just his movement, shot selection and shot difficulty.
Defense.....I kind of ignore it and roll the dice.....just seeing his size, shooting and value off the ball. He's not a slam dunk but relative to the other second rounders, he seems to have a very clearly defined set of offensive NBA skills.
Is there a reason I should prefer him to Alexander? My draft rater sees them as equally questionable defenders, but Alexander's the better shooter. I guess theoretically Hughes has an edge physically, but in practice he doesn't seem to bring much physicality to the table.
Kenrich Williams a good comp? He's managed to carve out a rotation spot, and would actually have some value if he could hit a 3.
For me, no. Alexander shows the ability to shoot across the spectrum (off the dribble, spot up, transition, etc.) and he's an incredibly smart player. I just think Alexander's ability to get his own shot off is more valuable......but Hughes is a certainly a more physically imposing player and better athlete. He has plays where you will say "damn" on defense.....but he also drifts a lot and can lose his man. I think Hughes can succeed as a rotational piece on a good team, similar to a role JR carved out with us.....he may just wash out on a bad team, where he's given too much freedom and isn't being held as accountable on defense. I think Alexander can succeed in either scenario (good or bad team), as a valuable rotational player.
Williams has small forward length. I was thinking Bane's body and play is a lot like Gary Harris, but less explosive and athletic.
He has trouble with pressure as the ball handler, and he has been struggling.
So...what is his position? Because if he's a 4 in the NBA, I'm a lot less concerned with him not being able to handle the ball like a guard.
