It is up to the league, but I cannot imagine they will force other teams to go to Miami in these circumstances. I still wonder if there is a plan to simply shut down (for weeks, or perhaps the season) certain teams if the infections are too prolific.
Sounds like push may have come to shove.

If you start allowing teams to opt out of any "hot spot" before you know it you run out of places to play. Texas, California ... haven't been the best places to be for COVID as of late

Now clearly the Marlins as a team had an outbreak, but opting out on going to Miami has bigger implications than just the Marlins as a team.

Oh yes , that is huge...

Vegas oddsmakers on MLB finishing the season:

This just begs the question of whether we will get a conclusion to the 2020 MLB season and a World Series champion crowned, or if we will have to wait until 2021. Online sportsbook Bovada has released odds on whether the MLB campaign will be suspended, with “Yes” being the overwhelming favorite at -575 and “No” coming back at +360.

Will The 2020 MLB Season Be Suspended At Any Point?
Option Odds
Yes -575
No +360
Odds as of July 27 at Bovada

Nor Cleveland

Ignorance on my part, but would "suspension" here refer to a cancellation of season, or would a 2 week stoppage, followed by a restart count as well. Just defining the terms...

I'm really interested in seeing what Manfred does here. I think you pause on Phillies and Marlins games for the next 4-5 days so you can get a clear picture of how many Marlins are infected, and if it spread to the Phillies. The incubation period for this virus really makes this complicated - negative Phillies tests today after only 2 incubation days doesn't mean much. No negative tests on Thursday or Friday would be much more telling.

Crossing your fingers that no more Marlins will test positive and no Phillies players will test positive seems like an unnecessary risk this early. Better to pause and see how this pans out between two teams rather than continuing and potentially wrapping the Yankees and Orioles (and even the Nationals/Blue Jays) into this experiment.

Possibly revamping schedule on the fly. Will likely need to be creative and adaptable to keep this going...

Not sure if this has been mentioned but the White Sox manager is experiencing symptons currently. Have to wonder the mind set of the Tribe knowing he has been around the White Sox and that is who we are currently playing.

With each new COVID19 revelation, the odds to finish the season continues to diminish.

okay some questions:

Lets say we get to this weekend and the players say "enough of this shit" and decide its not worth it. Do they still get full pay of 60 games?

Lets say MLB makes the determination they cant keep things under control and they bring a stop to the season, Do players still get paid?

Lets say no team makes it past 10 games. Do all of the players still accumulate a year of experience?

Reading tweets from Miami reporters and now Miami's mayor is saying the Marlins organization should enter 14-day quarantine upon returning to Miami after being exposed. What exactly was MLB's plan here? Defying the request of a mayor, especially when it is something that is being asked of other regular-joe citizens, would not be a good look.

My guess, given the history of MLB and the Players Association is there is a big long fight over all those issues

Great questions all. I have to think these contingencies were included in the fine print of the agreement to return to play in 2020.

Players getting COVID19 test results within 24-36 hours is not a good look either when there are people waiting for eight hours in their cars to get tested then results not coming back for 10 plus days.

Think I read they get tested every other day and the results come in 2 days, so for 3 days a player could be infected and not know it.
