2020 NBA Draft

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
There's a chance Wiseman falls to us. Wolves have Towns, I think they're going with Edwards. If the Warriors want to move the pick, they might go LaMelo. Hornets have alot of holes on their roster. Bulls have Wendell Carter Jr.

As far as Okoro is concerned, does his adv stats and skillset projects him to become a good role player more than the other guys?

Okoro’s advanced stats are pretty underwhelming. With him, you kind of have to make the argument that his film / style are better suited for the NBA game.

There isn’t much of an analytical argument for him, partly because he was horrendous shooting the ball. Being a sub 30/70 split as a wing is really bad. I think he’s a better shooter than that but that is kind of the point with Okoro, where he is the prospect you somewhat have to ignore everything and soley try to sell his projection moving forward.

Certainly, the red flag in my stuff is he doesn’t have a great non scoring impact number.....which for a non shooter increases the chances he doesn’t pan out. I still tend to ignore the data on him and like his potential, but it is more of the eye test at this point.

My model is pretty much on the same page. It considers him a mildly positive defensive prospect and moderately negative offensive prospect. He's a good inside scorer, but not good enough to make up for his poor shooting.

I feel like Onyeka is a good pick in terms of BPA and fit in the long term, but looking at the short term, how the heck is he going to get enough playing time on a team with Kevin Love, Drummond, TT, Larry Nance, Bell, Dean Wade?

His first year is going to be problematic, and the 1st year is always crucial. We need to clean house.

Also, I feel like his shooting is overlooked and perhaps his overall skillset like so many other bigs in college. Kat barely attempted a 3 in college, but is one of the best shooting bigs ever in the NBA. I think Onyeka, skillset wise, has a lot more to show. People compare him to Bum, but I see a bit of a poor man;s Anthony Davis in his game.

Like I said yesterday, the thing i'm wary about the most about him is his mentality.

What did you like about his tape?

The thing i'm concerned about is that the majority of players with his profile usually become role players. But there are exceptions to the rule, and perhaps he has shown something to point into that direction on his tape. I think his finishing, balance, strength and driving ability is what stands out the most.

I feel like he is a bit undersized. Which could be problematic.

It does seem like a lot of bigs make massive improvements to their offensive games from college to NBA. Bam went from 0.8 assists per game in college to 5.1 in the NBA. Towns made just 2 threes in college but now is one of the best shooters in the NBA. But it doesn't happen for everyone, of course. Most guys who have poor assist:TO numbers in college simply go on to have poor assist:TO numbers in the NBA, and most guys who don't shoot 3's in college are non-shooters (or at least very limited shooters) in the NBA. I think it's a big leap of faith to think Okongwu will develop a versatile and efficient offensive game like people seem to be expecting.

I think Okoro is very good driving to the basket, definitely more so than a guy like Vassell, but it's hard to say he's special there. It's not like Auburn regularly gave him the ball in isolation and let him go to work. There are no games you can point to where he "went off" against a good defense. I feel like people are doing a lot of extrapolating from his impressive physique.

In diving into tape, I get a Jimmy Butler vibe (minus the asshole-ish temperament) from Devin Vassell. My *current* board for the Cavaliers is:
James Wiseman
Deni Avdija
Onyeka Okungwu
Devin Vassell
LaMelo Ball

I've been watching some Obi Toppin highlights & I must admit, the more I see him, the more impressed I come away. His offensive game makes up for his supposed lackluster defense. I really like him, would be happy if Cavs take him.

But you have to dump one, so please take out one of Precious, Bey or Azubuike. Thank you.

This is stupid. Pass on him and draft a better player. Taking a guy in the top 5 and hoping you can fix his shot. Ask CHA about MKG.
Could be a smokescreen, trying to get Chicago to think they are really interested so they don't take baby Doncic.... Aviidja.

If Mark Price can't fix your shot, its likely forever busted.

I'm annoyed of the hubris it takes to have the stance that they can "fix" his shot. A shot is the hardest thing to fix. Get a better shooter and teach him to play defense.
